BANK HOLIDAY FIXTURES FIASCO

Recommended Posts

7 clubs agreed to play on JAN 3rd 2005 which is a bank holiday monday they are as follows.

BARKINGSIDE V ROMFORD.

SOUTHEND MANOR V CONCORD RANGERS.

ENFIELD TOWN V BOWERS & PITSEA.

THE OTHER TEAM WAS BRENTWOOD TOWN.

2 LOCAL DERBYS AND THEN THERE IS BOWERS HAVING TO TRAVEL ALL THE WAY TO RUN DOWN BRIMSDOWN ROVERS TO PLAY THE MIGHTY ENFIELD TOWN WHERES THE COMMON SENSE IN THAT,I VERY MUCH DOUBT THAT THE FIXTURE SECRETARY OF THE LEAGUE WILL BE IN ATTENDENCE AT ENFIELD,HE WILL PROBABLY STILL BE IN BED SLEEPING OFF HIS HANGOVER FROM NEW YEARS DAY.

Before any of you Towners jump on Compaq, I'm sure he knows it's Enfield Town not Enfield, just an irate slip of the keypad!!!!!

Great result last night, the title is heating up nicely.

Surely the clubs should have agreed only if they were playing a derby match, was that not the idea? Or the fix sec should have said not enough for derbies soz to the two clubs?

I'm sure you're right, it's just that I know how touchy (Rightly so) Towners are about being called "ENFIELD".

In season 2000-2001,on 7th November,Canvey Island played Enfield in the Ryman Premier League but the Match Programme says on the cover and throughout " Enfield Town " and this was before the latter was even founded- so worth hunting it out " Towners" as a bizarre souvenir !

Can't imagine Enfield Town whingeing at this one - should bring in the crowds but ooooh ! bit of a dodgy statement about Brimsdown Rovers .. " Run down ".... maybe four years ago but certainly not now . Funny what folk say when they play Mr Angry .. keep your woolly hats on Towners !

I agree that it's crazy for a club to travel all the way from Bowers to play at teh Brimmobeu. However, I must fully agree with the previous poster. The ground is now one of the best ones in the league. There is a bar selling cask beer. Covered seating on one side and covered standing on te other. Good food and drink and a great atmosphere. the efforts of just a few people at Town have vastly improved the Brimmo. Just be thankful you're not going to Stansted or Hullbridge

Apologies for my statement regarding BRIMSDOWN ROVERS "run down ground" it un-called for, i have'nt been to their ground for a few years so it was an unfair comment by me.

USE COMMON SENSE,IF A LOCAL GAME COULD NOT BE GIVEN EITHER HOME OR AWAY THEN NO GAME SHOULD HAVE BEEN ARRANGED.

The council of clubs were told that clubs who agree to play on JAN 3rd would be given local games as they have been in previous seasons including boxing day, them because bowers have already played most of the teams in the league already they decide to give my team the longest possible away game that we can have, dont get me wrong ive no problem any other time of the year or even playing enfield town midweek but on a bank holiday monday just after new years day, are you sure.

Apology accepted. It's great to see fans, players and officials of other ESL clubs getting involved on this forum.

Then your club shouldn't have put itself forward for a game.

Whilst ETFC are welcome addition to the ESL and the ESL would be a poorer league without you, given that you are based in Middx, you could probably have also qualified (geographically) for the Spartan Sth Mids League. I think the point Darran is trying to make is that people, inc players and fans, do not want to travel too far on a Bank Hol. Especially if it turns out to be a 11:00am KO.

That said, I'm sure Towners would have preferred not to be travelling to Pitsea on the last Sat before Xmas!!!

Can I re-iterate what I said please...the league were looking to give clubs derby matches, when there werent enough they should have said sorry to the two clubs left out or asked them if they wanted the fixture.

Tis my opinionion...

See you changed the origianl post Darran!!!
I wonder if the Vase prog will become a collectors item?
