Billericay 2-0 Hampton.

btfc 4 ever

Too be honest, for 80% of the game, Hampton couldn't hold us. We we're all over them. Again, every player played his part and if we keep this up, I believe the league could well be ours...but we have to keep it up.

We did have a bit of luck. A Hampton free kick hitting the post and in the first 10 minutes of the second half where everyone decided to hit the panic button in defence. But the over zealous efforts of the Hampton players to get the equalizer proved to work in our favour and after that we took control of the game again.

When the second was scored, Hampton then started to resort to a more physical and intimidating style of play and I'm sure their No. 6 was booked in the 1st half, therefoe should've walked when he pick up a yellow in the second. Hey, ho...myself and ohers could be wrong. Overall, I thought the ref was okay (sorry Simon, I disagree with your NLP report) only really losing control in the last 15 when the game got scrappy.

Looking at the crowd, NLP reports, 460 odd. Not bad. I thought there were less...

Anyway, we've continued our run, now for Tuesdays game...COME ON YOU BLUES!!!

First 35 minutes all over them, passing top notch, took the lead, should have had a pen and hit the bar. They're not a bad side and battled back into it either side of half time but offered little in open play, their best moments came from set pieces. Got the second and that was it - game over. Thought Ross was outstanding yesterday, prob just shaded Cousins as my motm. Forbsey starting to produce the full 90 minutes now as well which is important for us.

Elder came on last 15 and did ok, but the game was petering out by that point. One good run and shot showed promise. Stephens picked up a knock in training on friday but should be ok by Tuesday.

Gaz the ref made a number of decisions that were just plain wrong. the foul on Cuz was inside the area (according to fans I spoke to in the cowshed at least) and the ref didn't even consult his assistant. It wasn't one way - he gave us a corner when Dorm's header hit the bar with the keeper nowhere near. Their no 4 should have been sent off for at least 3 two footed tackles (Goths, Dorms and Cuz) but I don't think he even got a yellow. That's why I thought he was poor.

Whatever the merits of the ref, what wasn't poor was the result. I thought this would be a tough game for us as Hampton have been playing well lately, and it was tough, far less pretty than our last few games (especially in the second half), but no doubt we deserved the win. The key to our good current form is that we are playing as a unit and let's hope we can keep going.

Well done!!

I must say that I thought the ref was mainly OK but he did give some bad decisions which was the same for both sides, so in the end things ended all sqaure. This is of course better that some refs which have been overtly biased towards the opposition.

As for the players I do not feel that any played badly, our defence held firm. Midfield did well and our attack was always dangerous but I would make Ross MOM for his running, close control and some great crossing especially for the first goal.

Carry on like this and I do not fear any team.

I would also like to congratulate the management as they have created a team which can do the job that we want.

The crowd of 463 was impressive cosidering only 16 were from Hampton. We all thought there would be less but we had a late stampede of new and old btfc support which swelled the ranks. Lets hope they all come back with a few freinds after watching an outstanding performance.

I thought the ref was fine for this level, for where I was standing (opposite the cowshed), Cousins looked outside the area and the momentum took him inside. Need a bit of work on the free kick though.

I really can't get myself worked up over a refs performance because at the end of the day the luck and the refs decision evens itself out over the season. If you're good enough you go up and if you're not you won't.

I thought Hampton were one of the better league sides we have seen this season which makes the result and performance even better. The first 35 mins was possibly the best we have played this season with some good testing crosses from Kieran and good passing from the whole team.

The periods before and after half time Hampton game into the game a bit more but we ended the stronger side. Ross and Neil getter better every game and even with the new signings I see no reason to change the team at the moment.

Well done another excellent performance.

The encouraging thing was that after turning in a series of good performances away (Bognor, Hendon, Yeading) we've shown those fans that don't travel how well we're playing at the moment. 462 is pretty reasonable considering they only brought about 20 fans, not sure how many wil turn out tuesday but hopefully we'll get up around 500 on Saturday (given a fair day etc etc!) <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/icon_smokin.gif" alt="" />

I agree - when they got the ball Hampton looked pretty useful, and Trotty and Saps had to be on good form to hold them at bay. The positive was that we kept possession really well, and for large chunks of the game they were chasing shaddows.

Just an observation here...

The amount of non travelling supporters that shout out, "what rubbish", when we struggle. Even yesterday, certain people were not happy unless they had a "get him orf" and "he's rubbish" comment. Seeing how we have played so well away and (now) at home, I find it sad that these people turn up just to knock...

Some people just can't be pleased, any of the time.

Totally agree with you Gazza. I often feel as if some people cannot wait for us to fail just so they can say I told you so. They are too quick to get on the back of a few scapegoats and do not give the team enough credit when they do well.

Saying this though it must be remembered that there are plenty of fans who turn up at home but rarely go to the away games cos they dont have the resources or have other committments and they are just as loyal fans as anyone else.

I agree that they are as loyal as their commitments can be but they give the impression that, despite our away form of late, one mistake and the call for "rubbish" and "get him off" starts off...The beginning of the second half yesterday, is an example. I kept my mouth shut but I just wanted to tell certain people to "shut up".

I think Keiran Gallagher deserves a mention as the quality of his crosses was superb. He only wasted one corner but for the most part was delivering cross after cross. Ross with his height must love it and im sure we will exploit a few weeker keepers if keiran keeps delivering like he did on saturday.

A clean sheet to boot aswell..Also agree about Galls, but have to say Ross is playing like a man possessed at the moment and Cousins continues to impress (in my opinion he changed for the better at the Bognor game) - Well done to ALL players. t I am pleased we have a game so soon after Saturday, hopefully the momentum can continue..
