Sawbridgeworth vs ETFC

The most important question is WHY can't we manage to beat Sawbo on a regular basis. They are fit, committed, and organised but untimately LIMITED.

Exactly, hit the nail on the head, ORGANISED!!

Which for a while now, we have looked far from being.

Sawbo were first to every loose ball & apart from some woefull finishing should have been out of sight mid way through the second half.

Remember the Romford game? whats happened since then?

A point gained or two points dropped hard to say , a big factor the wind yesterday and the appalling officials the Ref went along with every call made by the sawbridgeworth players the linesmen never made any decisions until the ref called them ,still every back in the melting pot now but no room for error.

I agree the conditions had a lot to do with the result but still some uncharacteristic defending from p.cambell bring back Adam Gant.

How many times have we seen Town conceed a goal from a low crosses, when one (or maybe two) Town players swing a leg at the ball and totally miss it, leaving an unchallenged close range shot for the opposing forward.?

I understand that it is not whether you are behind the ball but whether there are two opposing players between you and the goal.

Pamplin headed it forward so it was a forward pass and Campbell was in play he ran forward and headed it in. I agree he was behind Asa when Asa headed it but what difference does that make. It was a forward pass Asa did not head it back to Campbell.

Perhaps a ref will correct me on this. I can accept that I could be wrong but I have always understood that it is the position of the player when the ball is played and Campbell and, I think, Smith was offside though clearly Smith was not interfering with play.

Asa could have run forward to nod it in then Campbell would not have been interfering with play.

Definitely a point gained for ETFC yesterday. 3-1 down at HT and it should have been 4-1, and 5-1 into the 2nd half. Abbey result was great for us. I still want to know why Jim persists with seb. Look at Pike or Sawbo. Strong, committed and some intelligent play and two goals. Can we sign him please? Please?

Noting Sawbos league position, I thought they were at least as good as Abbey, if not better.

wasnt the greatest game ive ever seen town in but id take a point after being 3-1 down.the ref & lino's were very poor though !!! where do they get them from ? it may only be essex senior league but we must be able to get a higher standard of officials.im sure they spoil alot of games that could otherwise be very entertaining.

Watching the game live on the forum, I would have accepted a point at half time. Abbey's result was a bonus never expected and I think that despite everything, we are now in the fortunate position of being back in the hunt. Let's not waste it.

Steph, a player is in an offside position if, at the time the ball is played, he is nearer his opponents' goal line than the ball, unless there are two opposing players between him and the goal line.

You cannot be offside if you are behind the ball.

For convenience I have missed out all the bits about interfering with play and seeking to gain an advantage!

I wasn't there of course but it sounds like the lino may have got it right after all.

He was not offside then and I have been wrong for nearly 50 years. But you do not often get that situation.

Which situation don't you often get - the being wrong for nearly 50 years?

Oh Well , admit it you were lucky. Yes the conditions played a big part as did the officials. In the first half I must admit we got the rub of the green but in the second some of the decisions were a bit puzzling.

That was our first game since 14/12 so we would have taken a point before the game.

I think it is a bit unfair to say we are a good sunday league side given that we came close to winning the league last year and gave you more than a match in the Cup. We play to our strengths which are a strong team ethos and high work rate. Pitches in this league dictate that this is normally the most effective tactic.

Oh, and as for the time wasting we were under the cosh for the last 20 mins so what would you do hurry things up a bit. I don't think so.

It was offside and Stef got the ball for the free kick But that's football.

The key point is whether Campbell was behind the ball when Pamplin lobbed the keeper. If he was then it doesn't matter where the defenders were: he wasn't offside. If he wasn't behind the ball then it was offside.

That's assuming that Pamplin, Campbell and Smith were all onside in the first place when the ball was played through.

I had my doubts on both fronts

If it is great news for us as he always does really well against us.
