Morons at the National Lottery!

The National Lottery have just refused to pay a grant to the Samaritans "for not being inclusive enough"! What? If you're there sitting waiting for ANYBODY in trouble to call so you can be a friendly listening ear, how the h*ll are you supposed to "encourage" minority groups? Advertise for more of them to become suicidal? Last ticket I ever buy! They also gave more money than the Samaritans were asking to help keep their service going, to a group which advises prostitutes. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/flame.gif" alt="" />

 

I went on to the lottery website and asked the question why - the answer their automated machine gave was "You've beaten me with that question, please ask it in another way."! Right..........

I heard on the radio the other day (that's the wireless, BJR!) that the National Trust, I think it was, were going to stop giving free guided wlaks round bits of the Lake District because the customers were all white middle class and middle aged. The scheme has been saved because a businessman or company has made a hefty donation to pay for it.

 

The point is, if they were strapped for cash, why not charge for the service instead of stopping it on those ludicrous grounds? If they had identified their client base as WMCMA i.e. presumably relatively wealthy, I@m sure they would cheerfully stump up a fiver or so for a jolly day out in the country. Those less fortunate, e.g. the unwaged, can easily be accommodated by a conventional concessions arrangement.

 

Election time is approaching. All parties seem to be beginning to get the message about "asylum seekers" (but don't trust them to actually do what they promise) - how about some pressure to abandon the lunatic PCness? This is NOT of course to say that minorities of any description (we all belong to one or more) or those with particular needs should not receive the support they need, but let's stop tying ourselves in knots about it.

You just can't beat a good wlak, especially out in the bracing fresh air!

 

Whether I'd like to wlak with a bunch of other white middle class middle aged wlakers is another matter. Sometimes you just want to wlak alone, or maybe with a close friend.
