WHAT WENT WRONG ????

Recommended Posts

I agree that Jim has let some very good players go in the last few seasons.Whether this is down to personality clashes,or things that happen outside of football, who knows.

Don't forget Jim has let players come back in the past( Clarke,Allen),and has had plenty of stick from the fans for doing so.Lets just trust him.He knows players attitudes, abilies, and worth to the team, more than we do.

I for one am looking forward to who Jim will bring in pre season and how we will get on in step 4.Progress must be made every season.Jim knows that more than anyone.

I don't know any more than anybody else, or at least anybody else who thought it better to ask Jim, Phil & Pete rather than engage the speculation!

What do three of most skillful/effective Town players of the last three seasons that are not retired have in common?
dont know , WHAT DO they have in common ?

Personally I think Jim is a very nice man and a good manager at THIS level . He can only be judged on the next few seasons . Be honest this isnt the hardest league to win ???????

"THIS level" well said NLF, my thoughts (and several others) exactly, next season at level 4 will be intresting, level 3 is where the step up would be noticed!

Blimey lads, give the guy a chance! Remember Jim has Ryman premier experience, which was step 2 at the time, and he avoided relegation against all the odds. On top of that now he has several years more first team management experience since then.

Looking at the record I would say Jim is too good for this level (5). League positions of 2,1,4,1. Two League cups, one final. One GBMT. 1 Cherry Red Trophy. 1 Mddx Charity Cup. 1 Mddx Senior cup final, plus a semi-final.

Seems ok to me.

Dont get me wrong JC all round top bloke, just giving my view as seen from behind the goal since formation of the Town & at Southbury Road for many years before.

This season we played some excellent football worthy of level 3/4, Sudbury, Diss, Hampton, Romford (away) for example, however

We also played some dire games, all in a seasons football I know, but some formations & personnel positions were mind bogling to me, wont be as lucky & sneak as many results at higher levels.

Yes this is a VERY good record but i believe we would have won ALL if not more with u or me in charge ? the players r attracted to this club because of us . come on what esl player wouldnt have walked out on his club last year and played for us if we showed an interest ? EVERYONE wants to play infront of 2,3,4 hundred fans every week . My point is , I know Jim has ryman experiance but he also had a lot better people around him on the staff and he inherited the team . I just dont know if he has the player pulling power ? look at MILLER , GERAGHTY , COVE , COOPER . ALL players with great ability and plenty of ryman experiance but he didnt know how to keep them happy . Next season is going to be a big one for us but a HUGE one for Jim ! .

Miller had his moments but was no better than anyone in the current side. Gerraghty was last seen plying his trade in Southern Amateur League Junior Section Division One - apparently he hopes to return to the Ryman League next year. Personally believe Rudi Hall's far far better. Who knows how good a fit Billy Cove could be (in goal?!). Ian Cooper just didn't perform for the Town despite ample opportunity.

Well, I wouldn't agree that any ESL player would join us at the drop of a hat! Just ask the Abbey boys.... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I'm not sure how Jim could have inherited the team as he's the only manager we've ever had! Most of the players, certainly the original sqaud and a lot of those who joined over the last 4 years, joined because of Jim. Many of them have played for him before. Plyaers have left for various reasons it's true. Some have had undoubted ability but questionable temperamant. Miller was inconsistent but may have done better with an extended run it's true. Billy, well that was all about availabilty for training, apparently.

Anyway, no-one agrees on everything with football, not even with their own manager. It's all part of the fun!

maybe the mentioned players didnt perform cos they wasnt managed right , the higher up the leagues you go , the more it becomes about man management skills . Jim has a lot to prove still . he has done well for us granted . but i believe it isnt hard to win the mickey mouse league which is the ESL .

Okay, it may not be the greatest standard in the world, but it is probably harder to win than say a league containing 22 teams. If you lose maybe just five times then you are donald ducked for the season.

With only 28 games (I am sure you worked that one out yourself), it is virtually impossible to play catch up.

...and quite a few clubs who started in progressed well up the Pyramid, so not a bad breeding ground.

So in other words, you are talking total cojones!

By the way, Mickey Mouse did win an Oscar, no?

I don't believe we have asked ANY Abbey players to play for ETFC.I have a vague recollection that one of Abbeys players might have been approched last season (but it was probably just rumour on this forum.)One or two Abbey players may be worth looking at,but thats about it.Pinnacle and Wes are solid at the back, but i don't think they are better than Gant,Campbell,or Baldwin (comparable maybe, but no better).Don't forget Town had easily the best goals conceded record this season.

Gonzo are you sure?? That is the most bizarre statement since JC said "Riley gives us that extra something in midfield"

I would go as far to say Cooperman is the most exciting player to have played for the Town to date, scored goals important ones at that, in a very short period of time.

Sorry to see him leave as I was Billy.

Well said Gazza. Cooperman was sensational in his first dozen games for us (the new Jonny Bailey). His form suffered at bit after that, more down to the quagmire of pitches we we playing on at the time, rather than any dip in his form.He still scored a goal every two games (14 in 28 ?),and has been prolofic for Barton Rovers, and more recently Waltham Forest (scored 23 goals this season for them). Both teams play in step4 ,by the way.

There were a few rumours about his private life, maybe that was the reason Jim decided to part company with him,who knows.

I heard that too, try not to take any notice but there is not usually smoke without fire, but so what, didnt we have Bradley Quinn in the squad for the whole of last season??

I doubt if all the squad this season were all angels either!

Yep. Cooper did look awesome when he first pulled on a Town shirt, but he soon seemed to be a one-trick-pony who lost his confidence and the faith of the management. Its good to hear he's back in business, only a shame he couldn't fulfil his promise at ETFC.

Gonzo mate I never noticed any loss of confidence or the fact that he was a "one trick pony", (would not be so cruel as to say at least he had one trick compared to others)id actually go as far to say we still havnt replaced him but will need too for next season.
