News on the renovation work on the Plough End

Recommended Posts

I was there yesterday, the blue rope to cordon off the terracing is still up, but nothing has been done, yet.

I take your point FF.

However, in the worst case scenerio - if the work doesn't get done because we don't get a grant - whats the worst that can happen?

Would we get relegated by the Conference? Isn't it the case that even with the Plough End closed the Ground still meets Conference regulations so they can't relegate us?

I agree with the capacity still meeting the regulations. Others have pointed out that we are alledgedly supposed to be able to provide views from all sides of the ground. Considering that we have promised the conference that the work will be completed before the new season commences, I'm slightly worried.

On confguide it states that 'it must be possible for spectators to view the match, either standing or seated, for the full length of all 4 sides of the playing area.' This is part of the criteria for admission to the conference, which we have of course already achieved, but you would have thought it would still apply to all teams currently residing in the Conference.

However, it does add that 'other configurations may be accepted at the Conference Board's discretion', and since the club's statement following the passing of the ground this April read that 'no issues whatsoever were raised related to the stadium infrastructure or capacity' (on the news page of the official site), it seems there should be little problem. We're right to be a little concerned, though.

Has the grant been approved yet? It was clearly stated previously that this was going to take some time to com through - perhaps thats the reason for the delay?

Not yet, but i was told that the work was only expected to take two weeks so we have some time available yet.

Going on previous threads, installing seating, re-cementing and installing new steel posts must take longer than 2 weeks. How is the application for a grant going. As it does seem weird to have the drummer in the wings. They should be in their home, the Plough End.

A guy I know who owns a local firm that undertakes this kind of work told me that he had been approached by the chairman as the original firm contracted to do the work had let him down. My mate said he could not start until the end of August. Brian then offered him 2K more to do it before the start of the season, but he still had to say no because of his workload. Looks like there may be a problem getting someone to do this.
