Does it matter ....

.... a feck whether we signed a forward before the transfer deadline?

NO.

This is the strongest Fleet team since I started watching (Christmas 1971/72, I think. We outplayed, but lost to Dartford, 0-1. Seemed to take for ever before we won at home that season, but still got promotion.)

All that matters is that we turn out in force tomorrow, bring as many lapsed or never quite left the armchair supporters with us as we can .... & lift the bloody roofs off all the stands with our support. A convincing win tomorrow & this team will really start to believe in itself & that is what determines succes or failure.

The above looks a pretty daft statement to me now that the Fleet's total strike force are possibly out injured!

Before you start preaching that the team have turned the corner, I would suggest you wait and see what happens if/when McShane goes back to Peterborough and the last line of defence is put back in the hands of Kerr?

I agree WVN. The teams performance was different after the first twenty minutes against Canvey once they knew the hand some safe hands behind them.

As I work it McShane goes back after Halifax at home so our first game without him will be Hereford away. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

The team now know Kerr better but don't forget it could well be Holloway who got the nod ahead on the Exeter game. So while I have a question mark over Kerr I have no reason to doubt Holloway.

Something from the club telling us how long Holloway will be out would be usefull.

If we lose McShane we could well be in trouble, agreed.

However, I think you're struggling to justify your obsession about a striker, yet again looking for doom & gloom when most people, I'd have thought, were pleased at how well we adapted without a recognized forward on the pitch. Shows how the team has definitely moved forward.

As I understand it, neither Omoyinmi nor MacDonald has a long term injury & Grant is due back soon.

Yes, we have some difficult game coming up quite soon where points may prove extremely hard to come by & yes, Southport did not look like world beaters

But to be honest, there's something about your whole tone that suggests that part of you wants to see us come a cropper so you can be proved right. You'll deny it, but it's pretty revealing that even after a win you're looking for the downside. A real my glass is half empty man.

He should have returned to training by now, according to Alan Kimble in Saturday's programme.

Can I just remind you that it wasn't me that went public and said I wanted to sign 5 strikers. Neither was it me that went public saying that I was about to sign a premiership player on loan.

Once again the club build-up supporters hopes/aspirations only for those hopes etc. to be dashed.

Yes, strictly speaking your fixation is not with signing a striker, but in knocking Liam Daish's judgement.

Whatever, the fact that it's a fixation clouds your judgement, imo.

At the moment, my half full glass philosphy is ahead of your half empty one, on the 6 games played so far. After the run of difficult matches coming up, that position may be reversed. By Christmas we should be able to tell who's right.

2 questions:

1. Were you pleased by Saturday's display? (Which - again imo - showed that the management input at half time & its reaction to the loss of both strikers was decisive.)

2. Would you rather you are proved right so Daish has to be replaced or that our results are good enough to make it apparent that real progress is being made?

I promise, whoever is proved right I won't hide, nor will I gloat (despite acknowledging the deliberate wind up nature of 2 of my postings.)

Did you not read AK's notes in the front of the programme on Saturday?

I quote: "Craig Holloway suffered a dead leg in the first game of the season, which swelled quite badly, sufficiently enough for a trip to hospital, purely as a precaution. He is making steady progress and should have returned to training within the last few days."

There's your update.

Theres a big difference between "Wanting" to sign 5 strikers as Liam stated his intention, and actually having 5 either signed upor lined up to sign -I dont think you can say Liam was "building supporters hopes/ aspirations, only todash them",in this instance.

I agree he did say(apparently) that he was hoping to sign a Striker from a Premiership club on loan- there again, however,it was obviously a statement of fact and, clearly, satisfactory terms couldnt be agreed.

Its easy to criticise, but dont the self same types of story crop up on a regular basis from Premiership clubs - when they fail to happen,do the Premiership clubs get told they have a lack of ambition and that they are letting fans down?In the majority of cases,I suspect not.

Wow a slaped wrist from Fleetbabe, it won't happen again Miss honest.

Anyway there were people that were unable to attend Saturdays match and therefore would have missed Kimbles Comments, just becuse they were unable to make it should they be left out in the cold?

What we should have done is given on update on what was happening. This way we give the info to the people rather than them having to come to us to find it.

On the Holloway situation he played the second half tonight in the reserves.

I would have read that bit but was too busy trying to work out whether it was the Fleet playing Woking or a fleet of ships.

What?

That's why I put the quote from AK's comments on here. I thought I'd help out, and let all those who didn't get a programme on saturday know what was happening. Just being helpful Harry.
