"Wenborn out at Barking

Barking have sacked manager Arthur Wenborn after seeing the side fall into the bottom four in Division Two. In announcing his departure the club described Wenborn as one of football's gentleman but added action had to be taken as relegation would mean a two year delay to their plans. The club are confident the existing players will remain loyal to the cause. One of their number, Tony Rogers, took charge of the side for the Bank Holiday Monday game against Harlow Town and saw the side claim a point on a 0-0 draw. An early appointment of a long term replacement is expected. "

I recall being so furious about this.

I note with interest that our ex-manager Arthur Wenborn has posted an old copy of the Ryman News referring to his dismissal from the club. It is true that results were poor at the time but the real reason for Arthurs dismissal was not related to results. We experienced several weeks of somewhat eccentric behaviour from Arthur who had taken to leaving the dug out during matches and pestering the paying fans during the game whilst asking them 'Do you know who I am' of course nobody did so Arthur unfortunately became somewhat furious. We perhaps could have gone along with these events but matters came to a head during a League Cup game against Tilbury when Arthur ran across the pitch just as the home side were about to take a corner, placed himself in front of the Directors box and exposed himself to the Lady Mayoress whilst shouting 'I bet you remember me now love don't you' Arthur was led away by the stewards shouting 'take your hands off me, do you not know who I am' and the reserve team manager took control of events on the field for the remainder of the match. Arthur hasn't been seen at the ground since but we did hear rumours that he was spotted impersonating 'Sydney the Wealdstone Camel' and begging outside of Harrods. It is good to hear that Arthur is now back in circulation. Football certainly needs people like him!

sorry, didn't notice that due to the Urchin news being flashed across the headlines, as is normal these days. We usually look for the Boro' stuff three or four pages back, (if we can find it that is) <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/bounceblue.gif" alt="" />

Unofficial sources inform us that Arthur Wenborn booked into a Midlands hotel under his real name of Art Wynberg accompanied by a rather buxom blonde lady with a Scandanavian accent and large....well never mind that...anyway, our source also tells us that Arthur met with several Leeds United officials at 7-30pm for dinner and at 11-30 left the hotel in the Company of Terry Brown from West Ham heading towards a well known lap dancing club in the city centre. There was also a swarthy gentleman with an Italian accent in their Company, Can we assume that Arthur is back on the managerial merry go round? Watch this space.

Your mention of a dark swarthy character reminded me of the first time I met Sidney the Wealdstone Camel 'aka sid the yid'. Sidney was a dark almost Leventine looking man with hugh round shoulders and a dark menacing glare, he always wore crumpled grey pin stripe suits that looked to small for him and you could always see his Wealdstone club socks between the bottom of his turn ups and his brothel creepers. I first spotted sidney outside of the old white city stadium, he was touting tickets for the QPR - Orient game which was a big London derby on those days. It was raining heavily and Sidney came to my attention as he was trying to prise an old lady away from Art Wynberg who had pinned her up against the wall on account of the fact that she didn't recognise him, I'll never forget the first time I heard Sydney's booming North London dulcic tones, I thought he sounded so elegant when he noticed that I was watching him and said to me 'what the f*** are you looking at a*******, do you want a f******ticket or not' I knew that this was a man to be reckoned with and respected. After I had bought 20 tickets of Sidney at a reduced price of £55.00 each, we became good pals and thereafter Sidney, Art and myself were regulars on the North London soccer scene. I wonder what happened to Sidney? Does anyone know where he is living these days, I'd like to get in touch with him for old times sake.
