Next year were back in the FA Trophy (i believe), i wonder what the furthest a STEP 4 side have ever progressed ?

This is not saying we are going to progress to the later stages....... but the run to the Quarter final in 03/04 was certainly an enjoyable adventure.

How far do people think we could progress ????

Boreham Wood got to the semis last season as a Step 4 club.

The adrenalin was flowing the other year, remember Stevenage, Burton and then the disappointment of Hednesford. But it was a great run and to lose to the eventual winners who knocked out the Shots and then beat (sorry Paula and Yella) CIFC was no mean feat.

Also reached the Vase last 16 about 6 years ago losing to the finalists Berko.

Great days and yes love to do it again.

That was a horrible night at Hednesford. We should never have had that saturday game called off. I remember chatting to a couple of stafford fans that night. they told me their game was played (just up the road) and Hednesfords was off....very cynical. They knew there were over 200 coming up.

We didn't play well on the night.

Correct Mitch, never quite knew why the Sat was off, pitch hard maybe, and I wasn't there so can't really comment. All I know is that we were up for it and probably about 300 Urchins were due, instead of the 50 that went Midweek, left work 5pm, in their Clughouse at 7.26pm, not bad going

All I know was we were at some motorway service station half way there when we got the message it was called off! £6.99 on some dodgy fried breakfast all to find out I wouldn't need to be 'lining the stomach' <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Twas gutting.

Remember saying I would keep an eye on this forum to see if the game was cancelled so I could text one of your fans if the game was off. At 9am all was fine. Went back to bed, got up at 10.30am to see the game was off.

Had to frantically text this person knowing they were halfway up the motorway to say the game was off. Luckily they knew about it!!!

We had got just past the A1 turning on the M25 when my third phone call of the morning to Hednesford told me what the first two calls had already indicated was the inevitable result - first call said pitch hard - second call said pitch very hard and referee out on pitch - third call said off.

So we turned around, and went back and in the afternoon we ended up at Canvey - I think they were at home to Maidenhead in the trophy and they won 4-0 and I seem to recall that Maidenhead had someone sent off in what seemed to me to be a very dubious decision.

No chance at all of going back there for the restaging due to school commitments.

For the record, the call came through at 10.20, instructions were to hold the coaches until a decision was made, so it was quite obvious there was no game.

Anyway just another story, let's not fret over it cos maybe we can play them again.

BTW the big fella Anthrobus became Manager during the close season after our game and has now left.

Remember a few Urchins at that Canvey game. Met Maladroit and his dad for the first time.

I agree with the dont fret bet, but not that we'l play them again soon. They got relegated and I suspect that's why Anthrobus left.

Those Stafford fans were completely convinced that their ground was playable that day. Seeing as they're much closer than we were, I shall take it and remain quietly annoyed that a big day was spoiled. AND that we would have gone on to win it. So there
