Colin McBride – manager – joined Purfleet as a midfield player in August 1985, and made his debut against Canvey Island on 24/8/85 (won 3-0) in the Essex Senior League. He played 227 appearances and scored 32 goals. He then joined Concord Rangers and returned to Purfleet as manager in August 1997, his first match in charge being a 0-0 draw with Yeading. He was manager for 524 matches.

 

Richard Harper – physio – Richard was with Garry Hill at St Albans City, before moving with Garry to Dagenham & Redbridge and then to Hornchurch until November 04. He then joined Thurrock as physio and returned to Bridge Avenue with Colin McBride in May 06.

 

Steve Baldwin - (Defender) – joined on 31st March 2006 from Enfield Town where he was a member of the 2002-03 ESL Championship winning squad, having joined in December 2002 from Woodford Town. Previously with Clapton. Steve added another ESL Championship medal in 2004-05, as well as picking up the Fair Play award and Players' Player. 2004-05. Has played 122 times, which includes 20 this season, and has scored three goals. Has appeared in five Capital League matches for Hornchurch, in 2005-06, and made three first team appearances.

 

Jordan Bostock – defender - Jordan joined from Waltham Abbey where he was a regular member of their 2004-05 team, He made 48 appearances, and also represented the Essex FA. Last season, Jordan was the Urchins club captain and made 36 appearances.

 

 

Dale Brightley – Goalkeeper – Dale played for Billericay Town last season, where he was signed as cover at the start of last season. Previous clubs include Concord Rangers. Dale made his Billericay debut in October 2005, keeping a clean sheet in the Blues 3-0 victory at East Thurrock.

 

Rikki Burbridge – forward - Rikki joined the Urchins from Waltham Abbey. He has also played for West Ham for their youth team, and for Tilbury. After being sidelined for two months with injury, Rikki returned to the squad with two goals against London APSA last season and scored 13 goals in 17+14 sub appearances.

 

Ainsley Casper – forward – Ainsley scored four times in five Capital League appearances last season.

 

 

Michael Collier - Goalkeeper - Michael made his debut for Hornchurch at 16, and was at the time the youngest keeper to play for the urchins. He has since then played for Bishop’s Stortford (two spells), Saffron Waldon, Enfield and Harlow. Michael last played for Hornchurch in 2003/04, when he played twice, at Northwood and at home to Dagenham & Redbridge, and was substitute on 31 occasions. He then went to Enfield, and then to Aveley, where he made his debut against Uxbridge. Last season he made 41 appearances for the Urchins.

 

 

Garry Cross – midfield – Garry’s first senior club was Southend Utd., where he made 20 first team appearances, and then joined Slough in January 2001, and Chelmsford City. He joined Thurrock in July 2005 and was a first team regular last season, making 29+5 appearances and scoring nine goals. Made his Thurrock debut in the 3-1 win at Maidenhead and scored his first goal in the 5-0 away demolition of Weston Super Mare. Has averaged ten goals per season from midfield.

 

Ronnie Fletcher – defender / centre half – Ronnie was with West Ham United for two seasons as a YTS player, and then signed for Ryman Premier side Sutton United in September 2003. He joined Thurrock in March 2004. Last season he had 15 starts, six sub appearances and scored one goal.

 

Billy Holland – forward - Billy scored 37 goals in 2004-05 for Waltham Abbey, and was the league’s leading scorer. He also represented Essex FA in the annual match against The Army. Last season he scored 26 goals in 41 appearances for the Urchins.

 

Mark Janney – midfield - was released by Tottenham Hotspur in September 1997 and joined Dagenham & Redbridge. He broke into the first team but pulled a hamstring and was then out for the rest of the season. Spent two months on loan at the start of 1999/2000 to Braintree Town as he recovered. Again secured a regular place in the first team, until he left at the end of the 2004-05 season, briefly playing for Maldon, before joining Heybridge Swifts, and then signing for Thurrock in October 2005, where he made 30+1 appearances and scored two goals.

 

Kris Lee – forward – Kris played for Tiptree Heath and Tiptree United before joining Heybridge Swifts. He joined Chelmsford City for 2001/02 and joined Purfleet in October 2002 and made his debut against Aylesbury on 26/10/02. He made 130 appearances and scored 21 goals. He then joined Heybridge Swifts and then Maldon Town, rejoining Thurrock in January 2006. Last season Kris made 23 + 3 subs and scored seven goals.

 

Rhys Madden – goalkeeper – Rhys was a regular in the Urchin’s 2004-05 youth team, and spent part of 2004/05 on loan to Enfield Town. Last season he played eight times for the Capital League side, and was non playing substitute on four occasions.

 

Jimmy McFarlane – defender – signed from Thurrock May 06 – joined Purfleet in August 1991, from Clapton. Made his debut against Southall on 17/8/91 and scored 75 goals in 634 appearances. In August 1996 he joined Concord Rangers and returned to Purfleet for the 1997/98 season, and was their club captain. Last season Jimmy scored four goals in 43 appearances. He has also played for Millwall Wanderers.

 

Simon Parker – forward – Started out at Whitton United and Stowmarket Town before joining Heybridge Swifts, where he scored 27 goals in the 2000/01 season. Transferred to Gravesend in January 2002 and helped them to win the Ryman League title. Signed for Kettering Town in October 2002 after moving to study at Nottingham University. Re-joined Gravesend in February 2003 and then returned to Heybridge midway through the next campaign before signing for Southern League newcomers Maldon Town in June 2004. Joined Thurrock in March 2006 and scored three times in six appearances.

 

 

John Purdie – defender - John signed from Thurrock in June 06. He joined Purfleet in July 1997 from Billericay Town, and made his debut on 16/8/97 against Yeading. He has made 362 appearances for Purfleet / Thurrock. Previously with West Ham United where he was a regular member of their reserve side.

 

Stuart Roberts – midfield – Stuart made eight Capital League appearances last season, plus 1+2 first team outings.

 

 

David Sadler – forward - A former England Schools captain who re-signed for Dr Martens Premier side Hinckley United after a spell in the Ryman Premier with Kingstonian. Signed for the K's from Hinckley in August 2001 for a reported.£10,000 fee. Was voted Hinckley's supporters Player of the Year 1999/00. Previous clubs include Derby County as a trainee, Luton Town and New York State. Transferred to Cambridge City in May 2004. Last season David was out of action with a long term knee injury and made nine appearances, plus six substitutes, and scored five goals.

 

Jamie Southon – Defender – Jamie was with Norwich City as an associate schoolboy, and in 1989/90 transferred to Southend United, making one first team appearance in 1992/93. He has played for Purfleet, Dagenham & Redbridge, making eight appearances in 1995/96, and then joined Purfleet, scoring twice in ten appearances, before going to Grays, and then to Hong Kong club Sing Tao. When he returned from Hong Kong he rejoined Grays Athletic and then signed for Chelmsford City in November 1996. He went to Enfield in July 1997 on a monthly contract, and rejoined Purfleet in September 1997. In six seasons in his second spell, he scored 22 times in 283 appearances. Joined the Urchins in February 2003, and went on loan to St Albans City at the start of 2004.05. He returned from loan in November 2004, and played 23 + two subs and scored twice, and was named player of the year. Joined Cambridge City in June 05. Scored one goal in 16 starts plus 7 sub appearances, and moved to Chelmsford City in mid season.

 

Gareth Thomas – defender - played for Newham United in 2004-05, when they won the Essex Business Houses Premier Division, and also played for Royal Falcons on Sundays. He established himself as a regular in the Urchins line up last season, making 16+5 appearances, but missed the last two months of the season when he broke his ankle.

 

Gregory Tiffin – defender - Greg played at right back for the Orient Youth team. He left Orient in December 2004 and played for the Urchins youth team in the latter part of last season. He was regular in last season’s championship winning team, with 45+2 appearances and four goals.

 

 

Andy Tomlinson - midfield - returned for a second spell with Heybridge Swifts in February 2002 after beginning the 2001/02 season at Billericay Town following a loan spell from Swifts at the end of the previous campaign. Previously with Brentwood and Enfield, he moved to Hornchurch in November 2004, making his debut at Alresey in the FA Trophy. He made 21 appearances, his last being at St Albans City in April 05. He linked up with Tony Choules at Leyton FC for the start of 2005/06.

 

Ross Wareham – forward - Ross joined Billericay Town from Leyton Orient in the summer of 2004. Ross also had a spell on loan at Braintree Town during the 2003/04 season.

A couple of updates -

 

Danny Glozier – defender – started with Leyton Orient youth team and moved to Gravesend & Northfleet for season 2005-06, where he made six starts plus four substitute appearances, and went on loan to Tonbridge.

 

Ross Wareham – forward – Started with Ipswich Town and the joined Leyton Orient on Scholarship terms in July 2001. He made a total of 20 appearances for the U-19s and 3 (10) games for the reserves with 3 goals in 2002-2003. He went on work experience with Thurrock in early October 2003 for a month, making his debut against Braintree Town and during the following December went on another month's work experience loan to Braintree Town. He joined Billericay in the summer of 2004.
