Holmer Green 1-1 Stotfold

Spartan South Midlands Premier

Entertaining game, with plenty of chances at both ends. Some very good saves from both keepers, coupled with some poor finishing kept the score down. It didn't start too promisingly as the visitors looked a class above their hosts and quickly ahead. Holmer Green rallied and equalised with half an hour gone and could easily have been ahead only moments later. I don't think some of the home fans were impressed with their style of play, but I thought they made the best use of their players. No subs for Stotfold and a delayed start due to lack of a linesman (illness) and away players held up on the M25.

As always a pleasant club to visit.

Great win for our reserves tonight. Assuming we get given the points for the cancelled game v Oxhey Jets, that means out first team and reserves currently occupy top spot in their respective leagues. Happy with that!

However, long way to go yet and I'm not expecting that to be the case come the end of the season!!

Oxhey Jets 2 v 2 Ampthill Town - Spartan South Midlands Premier Division

Prog 36 pages W/A - Att 39 - Admission £6.00

Reasonable contest played on a hard bouncy pitch with the everpresent wind chill still remaining a feature. Ampthill fully deserving of a point after being two down and could possibly have won.

First half was full of worthy effort but little else until Beardsworth's shot went through Kennard's hands to put Oxhey in front. However, soon after ace striker Lewis Putnam (67 goals in all competitions this season) was on the end of a fierce challenge and played no further part, which did not help Oxhey's situation.

Oxhey doubled their lead halfway through the second half courtesy of an excellent twenty five yard strike from Danny Tilbury and at this stage despite Ampthill having plenty of play it looked as if the outcome would be a comfortable home win.

Lester soon pulled a goal back for Ampthill with an equally impressive strike which beat the Oxhey keeper for sheer pace and they were unfortunate not to level when another well struck effort from Lester came back off the post and then a header from Hughes clipped the top of the bar. In the final minute Ampthill scored their deserved leveller with a Lester shot rebounding off the legs of the Oxhey keeper and one of the Ampthill players 'with short hair' (IMHO it was Shaun Cooksley) but even the Ampthill entourage were left puzzled as to the scorer was.

Unclear as to whether the Boundary Stadium has the requisites for Level 4 (there is a possibility that Oxhey will finish second in the division) though if it does I would be a little surprised as very little seems to have changed from last visit apart from a very bizarrely situated small stand which has been plonked in one corner.
