Question - Should Clubs Have To Release Details Of Pre-Season Games?

Recommended Posts

A club near me has refused, when asked, to list its pre-season games - adding that it is 'nobody's business' to know about whom they are playing.

Now, before I nominate them for the Darwin Award for Sporting Idiocy, should clubs have to (by FA law if necessary) release details of whom they are playing, at which ground and on what day?

Or should it be up to them to decide whom knows about who they are playing, and thereby only marketing the games to a handful of people?

I swear that some football clubs are harder to work out than the Knights Templar!

Thats a strange one, not to release details.... unless theyve a load of money behind them and are playing trialists they want no one to know about..... or maybe they care nothing for their fan base. Name and shame!! It always bugs me when a Club signs a player for an undisclosed sum...surely a Club should share details like that with the fans, could be a record signing for the Club and the fans wouldnt know...it's all part of a Clubs history.

:shocked2 (2):

Maybe they have no pre-season games lined up because no one wants to play them ? or maybe they have no supporters to tell ?

:wall:

The club in question does have some fans, but they are about 20-25 in number when the wider area has over 45,000 people living there.

A number of clubs have expressed an interest in them (Bishops Cleeve, Gloucester City and Causeway United) but the secretary never responds to calls/emails.

Therefore, it's a little bit puzzling why a club does not want to mention its pre-season plans and not talk to clubs about games which could bring in some decent revenue.

perhaps they ticked the box for no publicity  :P

Never knew there was one of those :o.  Would be nice if Piers Morgan and Simon Cowell had one each ;)

That was one of the reasons given - the committee of this club had signed a whole lot of trialists up and not told the manager about it!  The manager is said to be seething about this, as this has completely undermined his authority at the club.

The number of trialists was close to 40 as well! :o

As far as I'm aware, there is NO requirement to publicise friendlies.

HOWEVER.....  The F.A. have to be informed as their normal rules have to be obeyed.
