"Colliers Wood 2 Dorking 1.

Dorking manager Tony Webb will feel aggrieved at the nature of this narrow defeat at Colliers Wood United. The game turned on a highly controversial decision combined with ill fortune moments before half time when a Colliers Wood player appeared to have run the ball out of play by some margin only for the ball to be cut back from behind the deadline and then be deflected into his own goal by a Dorking defender from close range. The Dorking players found it hard to accept the injustice of the decision, Webb himself being sent to the stands at half time when making his point to the referee, and it turned out to be the crucial moment of the game as Dorking came back strongly in the second half from 2-0 down at the interval, only to just fall short of grabbing a point as they ran out of time having camped in the Wood half for the final 20 minutes of the second period.

Overall, Dorking will feel they are starting to get a side who can compete for the remaining games of the campaign, and who will certainly start next season in a more settled fashion than this campaign. Manager Tony Webb is still working hard to bring in players to the squad, and is expecting to recruit one or two new faces in time for this weekend’s home game with Horley Town, and Tuesday 5 February home game with Cobham.

With regular keeper Chris Roberts still injured, Dorking had brought in French keeper Pierre Bourdet to make his debut, and the young keeper did well in his opening game for the club. With Joshua Smith returning to the side after injury, the side had a more settled look about it, with Tom Brereton and Mark Styles fulfilling the full back slots, and Ollie Barnett and Roy Newman once more teaming up at centre back. An attacking front line of Nigel Webb, Tom Ahmed and Adam Pero looked to have a good mix of experience speed and height, while captain Herve King looked assured in the holding midfield position.

Dorking held their own in the first half, but an early goal for Longley for Colliers Wood and the controversial own goal minutes before half time put Chicks yet again on the back foot in this match, but they reacted well ,as they took the game to their hosts in the second half. Nigel Webb had gone close on a number of occasions before Dorking finally reduced the arrears with 15 minutes to go through Joshua Smith. It was all Dorking in the final stages of the match as the side pressed strongly for an equaliser, Danny Stassinos perhaps having the best chance with 5 minutes to go when presented with a great opportunity in the penalty box, but his shot was straight at the keeper when a shot either side of the keeper would have given Chicks the point their efforts deserved.

Dorking’s U18 side play their rearranged CCL U18 league cup quarter final tie at Meadowbank on Thursday evening, 7 February 2008.

Dorking – Pierre Bourdet, Tom Brereton, Mark Styles, Ollie Barnett, Roy Newman, Herve King, Joshua Smith, Danny Stassinos, Adam Pero, Nigel Webb, Tom Ahmed.

Subs – Alex Wheeler, Alex Hill, Daniel Clayton, Miguel Beesley, Andy Briant.

any cobham players tempted to row up (down?) the mole to join the mighty chicks?

looks like mr webb needs a goalie and a goal scorer, a goal scoring midfielder, better match day officials and an experienced manager alongside him.

any forum members who feel they may fit the bill apply to BJR enterprises, New Faces competition,The Bunker,Relegation Avenue, Meadowbank.

From "THe Woods" Website

"Woods were made to fight all the way before securing the three points against a battling Dorking at Wibbandune.

The early exchanges were scrappy and included some poorly timed tackles from both sides. Woods took the lead in the sixth minute when the centre of Dorking's defence opened up generously and Mark Longley easily scored. The visitor's caused Hudson and Fox some problems but it was their final pass and finishing that let them down and this may go some way to explaining the Chicks poor season.

Both benches were animated by some of the tackling and the visitor's bench grew even louder as Woods extended their lead on 34 minutes. The impressive Longley out-muscled a Chicks defender and got to the byline where he managed to pull the ball across the goal-face where the on-rushing Mark Styles buried the ball into his own net. The ball did not cross the byline as one of the two photographers at the game showed a superb zoomed in picture as evidence!

Woods dominated the early stages of the second half but the killer third goal would not come. And Woods were made to pay the penalty when Dorking pulled a goal back on 74 minutes. Jimmy Davies was caught in possession and a through ball was finished neatly by Joshua Smith under the body of the advancing Tony Oval in Woods goal. There were some nervy moments as the visitors pressed for an equaliser, including a crazy back header which almost caught Oval out but Woods held on for, just about, three deserved points. Once again, Danny Cormack was the stand out player for the home side whilst Webb for Dorking was a fine example to his team mates."

I was near the incident and, even I, honestly felt the ball went fully over the line.

I will be adding photographic evidence to our website which proves the ball was not fully over the line after all.

I am adding some other pics of the game after 2pm to our website.

To be honest TFS, Dorking is a bit of a trek for me 2/3 times a week (I live in Windsor), but who knows what I may end up doing!!

Will see what new faces are going to arrive at Cobham before making any rash decisions!
