Amanda Knox - Guilty or Innocent

Recommended Posts

Spent xmas in Florence about 15 years ago Keeps

Loosely - You're quite a romantic at heart aren't you, Florence, Venice, Paris, Capri, Naples, Rome, Pisa, Isle of Wight, I bet you've been to them all

Missunderstood - I wouldn't go to Venice if you paid me, I've heard stories that would make Telly Savalas and Yul Brynner's hair curl, for example the polluted canals are absolutely filthy and disease ridden, containing highly contaminated sludge and toxic heavy metals, the pungent smell is over powering particularly during the sweltering summer months.

It's obviously a much better approach to listen to a few scare stories and base your entire opinion on that than it is to actually take the trouble to find out for yourself.

At least I know that when I'm travelling around the world, soaking up all the new sights and experiences, I will never bump into the prize xenophobe that is Rhodes. He'll be at home in his bunker, tin hat on, railing at how awful Johnny Foreigner is.

I would have thought it sensible to listen to the scare stories, as well as the opinions of those that prefer to see the world through rose coloured spectacles, and then make an educated decision to go or not.

I personally wouldn't go anywhere that I considered unsafe, (large parts of the Caribbean, the old Soviet Union), unwanted, (half the world hate the English) and the USA because I don't approve of their attempts at world domination.

If that makes me a xenophobe so be it, I just call it being sensible.

Missunderstood - I wouldn't say that I prefer to see the World through rose tinted glasses however you are spot on that the likes of Sjj2112, Keeps and Loosely should listen to the negative rather than the positive and try to form a balanced judgement once in a while. As you say it wouldn't be sensible to go to a place like the Caribbean for example or Mexico or South Africa where violent crime is rife and risk being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Why is it not sensible to go to the Caribbean, Mexico or South Africa - all are safe areas of the world. You might as well say do not go to England.

Yes, I do.

Do you consider London dangerous?

Like any country there are safe and no so safe areas - but it is an ignorant fool that would class a whole country or group of islands as being dangerous.

If the caribbean is dangerous why would cruise ships from both this country and abroad visit the islands daily. Why would a world cup be held in a dangerous country?

Parts on London, Liverpool, Manchester etc., are just as dangerous at times, but you are not saying do not go to see Buckingham Palace are you?

A near neighbor of mine was murdered on a Caribbean island about eight years ago, in parts of Jamaica holiday makers are advised not to leave their complex due to high crime rates, Mexico is considered unsafe because of drug wars, and South Africa is generally recognised as one of the crime capitols of the world.

A lad was stabbed to death in a pub 15 miles from where I live. No mileage in this argument I'm afraid. Murders every day around the world regardless of country or culture.

I understand what you are saying, but murders take place every day in this country and there are drug wars going on in some estates. South Africa is a country and therefore not all bad - like any country it has good and not so good spots.

More people are killed every day involving car accidents - yet we do not ban the car. Yet is kills far more than guns do and drugs do.

Loosely - I assume that you are referring to darkest Norfolk where, admitedly, anti-social behaviour is rife due to the lack of amenities in the rural County resulting in boredom for youngsters however one stabbing or shooting in a blue moon, such as the Tony Martin case for example, doesn't compare to the Caribbean, Mexico and South Africa where there are numerous horrific murders every single day of the week.

Yes, it's a well made point that there are more murders (marginally) in these countries. Please remind me where Meredith Kercher was murdered and where Amanda Knox is appealing against her conviction, a country that has a lower murder rate than the UK but your argument was that it was an unsafe country to visit. You brought up SA, Mexico and the Carrib. I've never been to any of them, have you?

No, I'm referring to Cambridgeshire, just over the border of West Norfolk, a demonstration that murder can befall anyone anywhere. Your point is lost on me, there are places in all countries where you would be an idiot to go, I wish you would.

Well no, if you recall that was my initial point as I wouldn't go to those crime ridden Countries if you paid me. According to your list Italy is in 47th place however I think that is misleading and I would put Italy more in the top 20 or 25.

No, of course you know better than The United Nations. What other countries have you been to?
