I suppose you have to have a rant about something but I think Morris Dancers are quant. Flowers, white hankies, long poles and pig's bladders!! <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

 

Nothing nicer than sitting in rural surroundings, outside a nice pub and Morris Dancers strutting their stuff!! <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

funnily enough...morris dancing isn't a 'white sock' pastime....which most people think it is....

 

most of those guys are from the legal ...accountancy.....pin striped professions....with a few liberal pretenders thrown in for good measure...

 

another intersting fact about morris dancing is the 'groupie element'...for some reason it does seem to attract a very lively female fan base...

 

 

any 'morris' gigs this weekend that you know about... <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Nowt wrong with a bit of Morris Dancing, as long as Mrs Morris don't object !

Did you know it's all very 'Pagan' and has a to do with fertility rites ? (I quote from 'Er Indoors, who's very into Wicker, and I don't mean a basket !)

I used to be scared of morris dancers when i was younger. Odd looking people hitting eachother with sticks, it seems to much like a night out in Romford to me !! <img src="/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

My understanding is that Morris dancing has nothing to do with "paganism" (whatever you may take that to mean) and is not even an old English tradition. Like "celticism" it is another modern myth with a pseudo-history.

 

And they look like right berks, and disturb my peaceful quaffing. <img src="/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

You got a point there Uncle. One of my fellow Canvey fans (I won't name names but he likes to shout at linesman) is into Morris Dancing and he is an accountant. Actually he has been teaching us some Morris Dancing/Folk songs on the coach coming back from away games. Certainly some of the longer trips down to Hayes and Sutton have been particularly entertaining especially if you sit near the back of the coach!!
