Fixtures & Results - 27 August

Cranfield 8 - Kentish 1

bout time we put the ball in the net !! great performance and so well deserved. Kentish are not that bad by the way and have to say nice people in charge. All the forwards scored again and some very gooooood goals. Early days but beating last years final league position seems a posibility.

Great results for Ampthil and Tik Tok - suprisngly Kings and Crawley lost 3 so far , maybe we all got it wrong apart from Ampthill being up there.

Going to be exciting !!!!

A report from London Tigers v Royston Town from another's Forum:

The Molten Spartan South Midlands Football Lge Premier Division

LONDON TIGERS [0] 0,

ROYSTON TOWN [1] 2,

Admission: £5

Programme: £1

Can of Pepsi: 60p

Royston Town came away with maximum points in a game which improved in the 2nd half after a slow 1st half. The away side took the lead with a breakaway goal in the 42nd minute & Sealed the win in the 65th minute with a superb finish. During the game a fan referred to this ground as a s***hole which was very disrespectful as i thought it was a nice ground & another new ground done for me i was also with Chorley 2002.

Came to the game with Ilfordfox. An uneventful first half (apart from the first goal) was improved upon after the break as the visitors gained the upper hand. During the heavy downpour and most of the crowd took shelter in the small stand behind the goal a superb second goal virtually ensured three points for the visitors.

Glad to have got this ground out of the way at least as it's been on my to do list ever since I sometimes used to pass it whilst driving on the busy A40 which passes the stadium going back to the time when it was the home ground of Viking Sports FC.

Challenge Trophy First Round

0 1 Hale Leys United v Colney Heath

An interesting report on this one from another's Forum:

Hale Leys United (0) 0

Colney Heath (1) 1

South Midlands Challenge Trophy 1st Round

Att: 43 (headcount)

Programme: By Donation (16 pages, full colour glossy cover)

SML newboys Hale Leys play at Fairfield Leys (pitch 2), Andrews Way, Aylesbury, HP17 8QQ. Fairfield Leys is the area to the south west of Aylesbury between the Oxford and Bicester Roads, the ground is nearer the Oxford Road. The complex has been in situ for a number of years but during it's existance it has been closed for a while due to drainage problems. The area has now been drained and all the pitches have been sand slit, a problem has arisen with pitch one as the drainage channels have sunk below the surface of the pitch and grass will not grow on them. The very helpful groundmans said the club would in theory play on pitch one if it was okay to do so but at present it is deemed dangerous, and funding does not appear available to put it right. The club have never yet staged a game on pitch one.

The pitch the club play on is roped with tempory dug-outs that have to be carried out nearly 200 yards from the changing block each game. It is doubtful if the club can develop this ground as it is a multi pitch council ground. They tried to move in the summer and looked at a number of other venues around the town, but none were suitable. They tried to use R.A.F.Halton but they did not get any joy, they would have only be able to use an outside pitch, and they may not have been able to use the same one each game. There would also have been access problems for spectators. The main stadium was never an option and is currently out of use.

I was also told that the ground that Hazells used in the 1990's which was railed is no longer available and that the club also looked at the ground on the otherside of the road which a number of us did very late the other season for an Aylesbury League game, the council did not want that one to be developed. Hale Leys know that they may have a task on their hands getting a ground good enough to progress in a area where step 5 / 6 grounds are at a premium - you only have to ask Aylesbury United, Thame United, Buckingham Town and Bicester Town.

The game itself was not bad, the homesters matching Colney Heath for much of the match, in fact they played the better football for most of the game but Colney were more "street wise" in footballing terms and tended to stop many of the homesters attacks. The ground is not one you would want to visit on the cold wet day, at times yesterday shelter behind and under trees was the order of the day at times.

Everyone at the club was very friendly and helpfull.

With seven assists no doubt, what's your involvement with Cranfield United out of interest

Hale Leys United's ground looks extremely basic, it must have been a culture shock for Colney Heath

Good to hear, is Lawless back or is he still at Newport Pagnell?? We are slowly getting players back should be at strength in next couple of weeks, very happy with Midfield now Butler and Kingy who are both SL players along with Rocket and Firthy who are top drawer, just need Phil Martin fit and banging them in and the new lad from Risboro looks handy up top. Apparently our ressies mugged yours with a total smash and grab, couldnt believe their luck...lol
