Arlesey Town

Recommended Posts

The shiny new Arlesey Town Under 23's side, under supremo Valentino Qoku's excellent leadership, will kick off their exciting Bedfordshire County League Division One 'A' campaign with a trip to Kempston Athletic on Saturday 3 October, kick off 2.30pm, they then entertain Stotfold Development the following week followed by a trip to Forde Park to meet fellow new boys Langford Reserves on Saturday 17 October. First of all though there is a difficult visit to Division One 'B' side Stopsley United in the Bedfordshire FA Intermediate Challenge Cup First Round to think about on Saturday 26 September, kick off 2.30pm, and no doubt Valentino Qoku will have already done his homework on the Raynham Way Community Centre outfit who are based in Luton, their pre-season has been going very well including a recent 3-1 win over Totternhoe Reserves and also a 2-1 win over Ampthill Town Development.

Sorry folks, a bit random but a photograph of the two programmes from Oxford City's FA Vase Semi Final with Belper Town in 1995, the first leg at Belper Town they lost 1-0 but won the second leg 3-1 at Marsh Lane to go through 3-2 on aggregate to meet Arlesey Town at Wembley where obviously Arlesey Town won 2-1:

Highlights from that momentous day in the Club's 129 year history:

Don't worry it's not the Groundhopping FC guy, YouTube highlights from Saturday's (26 September) Arlesey Town v Tring Athletic SSML Premier Division fixture which Chico Ramos's men won 3-2 with goals from Boyen Dimov and a brace from the young and exciting Herculano Carvalho who I gather arrived at Hitchin Road recently via Vitoria Setubal, Sporting Lisbon and Inter Milan where he played at Youth level. Guinea-Bissau born and Portuguese National Herculano could well be one of the players of the season if he stays injury free as unfortunately injury cut short his time at the San Siro Stadium with Inter Milan who were about to offer him a long term contract. Meanwhile Arlesey Town's Under 23's side went down 5-2 on Saturday at Division One 'B' outfit Stopsley United in the Bedfordshire FA Intermediate Challenge Cup First Round, boss Valentino Qoku will be disappointed with his side's first competitive result after an extensive pre-season however he will be hopeful of a good start in the first Bedfordshire County League Division One 'A' outing of the season next Saturday (3 October) at Kempston Athletic, kick off 2.30pm whilst the First team travel to Cotlandswick to take on London Colney:

Arlesey Town's Under 23's Bedfordshire County League Division One 'A' bow on Saturday (3 October) at Kempston Athletic was unfortunately postponed due to the weather conditions so Valentino Qoku's men have to wait until this Saturday (10 October) when they entertain Stotfold Development at the Norton Road Arena in Baldock, kick off 2.30pm, they then welcome fellow new boys Langford Reserves the following week which I gather is a re-arranged fixture. Stotfold Development did manage to play last weekend and worryingly beat AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College Reserves 5-1 at the New Roker Park, this following a 5-3 Intermediate Cup win the previous week. Arlesey Town's First team were also all dressed up with nowhere to go last Saturday when their SSML Premier Division fixture at Cotlandswick was called off however they were in action last night (Tuesday) and disappointingly went down 2-1 to a Biggleswade United side (see match report) who have been off colour so far this season and who somehow managed to keep Herculano Carvalho under lock and key during the course of the evening. This Saturday Chico Ramos will be hoping for progress in the FA Vase when his team entertain Northampton Sileby Rangers in a Second Qualifying Round tie before locking horns with Dunstable Town at Hitchin Road next Tuesday (13 October) in a league fixture:

Groundhopping FC is now at Uni in the midlands Loughborough I think. So I don't think he will be doing any SSML games in the near future.

There is a God then, I was beginning to doubt it what with lumbering us with Covid-19 since mid March. Yes, Groundhopping FC must be going to Loughborough University as I can't imagine anybody wanting to live there, you have to admit that he's rather odd and, like I said, says exactly the same thing at every ground he goes to 'hello there', 'see you in the ground', hopefully it will be a good game' and 'it's a nice ground to be fair', also have you noticed that he gets every score prediction right, he must edit his videos afterwards.

Yep he does seem to have a strict format that he tends to stick to when making his vids.

It wasn't to be for former FA Vase holders Arlesey Town on Saturday in their Second Qualifying Round tie against Northampton Sileby Rangers at Hitchin Road (see photographs) however the manor of the 3-2 defeat was heartbreaking as they led 2-1 with just five minutes remaining with goals from Bruno De Brito and, who else, Herclano Carvalho. Chico Ramos's men then proceeded to undo all their hard work when the visitors equalised late on and, with the tie heading for spot kicks, conceded again with the final whistle about to sound. The heads are still likely to be down when Dunstable Town come to Hitchin Road tomorrow (Tuesday) evening for a League fixture as well as on Saturday when they travel to Haywood Way, weather permitting, to take on Aylesbury Vale Dynamos. The Under 23's side at least gained their first win of the campaign under Valentino Qoku beating Stotfold Development 3-2 at the Norton Road Arena in Baldock in a Bedfordshire County League Division One 'A' fixture with goals from Cillian Mills, Archie Sayer and Matt Springett, next Saturday (17 October) they entertain Langford Reserves at the same venue, kick off 2.30pm:

I suppose some small consolation of Arlesey Town's disappointing FA Vase Second Qualifying Round defeat against Northampton Sileby Rangers on 10 October is this goal from, who else, Herclano Carvalho, it's a complete mystery how Chico Ramos somehow managed to tempt him to come to Hitchin Road:

Following some historical posts earlier on in this thread, predominantly about the old Lamb Meadow ground, here are some photographs from Arlesey itself which may be of interest, apparently the Domesday Book mentions Arlesey for some reason:

Photographs and match report from a 2016/17 Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central fixture between Aylesbury FC and Arlesey Town, at Haywood Way on Saturday 29 October 2016, Arlesey Town won 3-2 with goals from Sean Beasley, Arul Amu and Christian Tavernier, however having led 3-0 on the hour mark they were fortunate to hold on for all three points:

Over a hundred photographs from the annual pre-season friendly at Hitchin Road, on Tuesday 8 August 2017, between Arlesey Town and Hitchin Town which the visitors and near neighbours won 2-1. It was to be a disappointing 2017/18 campaign ahead for Arlesey Town who finished rock bottom of the Southern League Division One East with just fourteen points resulting in relegation to the SSML:

Photographs, and match programme, from a 2017/18 Evo-Stik Southern League Division One East fixture between Aylesbury FC and Arlesey Town, at Haywood Way on Tuesday 6 March 2018, Arlesey Town won 5-1 with goals from Joe Steele, Arti Krasniqi and a hat trick from Billy Lannon in what was arguably the result of the entire season with Arlesey Town finishing rock bottom of the Division with just fourteen points, resulting in relegation to the SSML:

Over 100 photographs, courtesy of photographer Colin Evans, from a 2010/11 Zamaretto  Southern League Division One Central fixture between Uxbridge and Arlesey Town, at Honeycroft on Saturday 4 September 2010. Uxbridge surprisingly won 2-1 against an Arlesey Town side who won the Championship that season under boss Lee Cowley, despite being deducted nine points for fielding an ineligible player, and were promoted to the Premier Division by one point on the very last day of the campaign, winning 1-0 at runners up and local rivals Hitchin Town who, fortunately for them, were also promoted through the play offs:

Uxbridge and Arlesey Town also locked horns in the FA Trophy Second Qualifying Round during the 2010/11 campaign, the sides couldn't be seperated at Hitchin Road on Saturday 30 October 2010 in a 2-2 draw and Uxbridge won the replay 4-2 at Honeycroft the following Tuesday evening, see photographs from both ties:

A very interesting listen, former Arlesey Town boss Robbie O'Keefe talks about their 1994/95 FA Vase Final win over Oxford City and the exciting road to Wembley where they beat two former winners Hoddesdon Town and Diss Town as well as Boston Town, Barnstable Town, Cammell Laird and Raunds Town:
