The Non League Football Show

Recommended Posts

Here's 'traitor' Lee Bircham in the studio last Saturday for Ollie Bayliss's final BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show, at least his comments below are spot on:

Absolute privilege to be invited in the studio by the legend Ollie Bayliss for the last ever Non League show on BBC Three Counties Radio. Complete madness from the BBC or whoever’s decision this was to let this show go, think a petition of some sort is essential to bring it back.

There were two parts of the other Non League Show two weeks ago, here is the second part previewing the FA Vase Final between Newport Pagnell Town and Ascot United:

https://audioboom.com/posts/8303625-19th-may-2023-part-2-ascot-united-non-league-finals-day

It’s a while since we did this but in an attempt to get a slightly different look at what Non League Finals Day means to those involved, this seemed too good an opportunity to turn down.
Two legends of their Club, Ascot United, Doug Page a man who first turned up at the Club with two young sons looking for a Club to learn football at. He ended up doing his own coaching badges and never leaving, even helping re-establish the Ascot United mens side and appearing as a player before taking on a role on the Committee and even a stint as Chairman and he’s on the board now. Doug even played under the Managerial guidance of my other guest’s father Ray Saunders and has been known to still turnout for the Vets. That’s where Rob Saunders now represents the Yellamen but as a player he played a big part in their two previous FA Vase runs to the Quarter Finals and admits he’s a tad jealous of the lads who will represent Ascot United on Sunday at Wembley.
A little bit different and a little extra for you to absorb before the season ends.
Don't forget to listen to Part One of this week's show too.

https://audioboom.com/posts/8356525-25th-august-2023-fa-vase-1q-holmer-green?playlist_direction=forward

We are back with a new series of weekly looks at the World of Non League football.
As the 50th year of the FA Vase kicks off we speak with our resident statto Mr Phil Annets with his @FAVaseFactfile hat on and speak with Holmer Green Chair Rob Shed who would like to do well in the competition this season but fears the timing might not be right, especially with even the Reading festival hitting team selection for his  young first team.
Rounding up the week's news and previewing the weekend's paper is Jon Couch of the Non League Paper on a very busy weekend of Non League football. It's good to be back.

This week's other Non League Show:

It’s the FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round this weekend with the Step 3 sides coming in across the Pyramid. Mr Phil Annets @FACUPFactfile is with us offering all the stats and facts of the round.
We talk to Chairman at Darlaston Town Neil Chambers about their history, their successes and their aspirations as they prepare for a BBC Red Button game as visitors to local rivals they know well.
Rounding it all up with thoughts on some of the biggest stories this week is Editor at Large at The Non League Paper Matt Badcock along with his preview of this weekend’s issue.

This week's other Non League Show:

https://audioboom.com/posts/8364040-08th-september-2023-fa-trophy-1q-cribbs-shirehampton?playlist_direction=forward

We go to the West Country this week and specifically two clubs in the Bristol suburbs.
The FA trophy begins this weekend with the First Qualifying Round with Step 4 clubs kicking the competition off. We link up again with Richard Luffman gaffer at Cribbs. Promotion last year to step 4 and now this year they’ve already dumped one Step 3 side out of the FA Cup and travel to another next week, first up though, a club from their own division in the FA Trophy.
Also in the Bristol area but two levels below, the story of the week. In the middle of a heatwave they had the heartache of a match abandoned in the 83rd minute they were leading 5-2, abandoned due to flooding. Manager Liam Greening tells us about Shirehampton FCs woes.
Rounding it all up Jon Couch the Executive Editor at the Non League Paper with Managerial changes, Club's facing demise and the inside track on clubs preparing for the FA Cup next week.

This week's other Non League Show with discussion on the FA Cup Second Qualifying Round ties:

https://audioboom.com/posts/8368175-15th-september-2023-fa-cup-2q-mousehole?playlist_direction=forward

It’s the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Cup with the National League South and National League North Club's joining the competition and those who have got the competition to this stage are beginning to dream of some proper giantkillings.
We kick it all off with the man in the know, FA Cup statistician extraordinaire Phil Annets with his @FACupFactfile hat on joins Tim Fuell to give some insight into the 160 clubs in 80 ties this weekend.
Then we head down to the South West again, a bit further than last week’s show, this time the most westerly side in the top four steps of the National League system. A Club on the rise not only on the field but also off it. Leading the way in building online followings and Communities supporting a Club that now boasts an international fan base for what is truly a village side but a lovely village at that.
Jake Ash is the Manager at Mousehole AFC and as it turns out he is as big a fan of this show as we are of his work and those around him at the club. Mousehole are unbeaten this season, joint top scorers in the competition and whilst they host higher level opposition in the FA Cup this weekend there’s little doubt there’s a respectful belief that their unbeaten record and FA Cup journey aren’t about to come to an end just yet.
Rounding it all up Matt Badcock Editor at Large at the Non League Paper with a few reception issues but hopefully not impacting too heavily on his insight into the big news across the pyramid this week and the issues to be covered in this week’s Non League Paper.

Ollie Bayliss's BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show is thankfully back by popular demand, albeit just for an hour on a Monday evening. Here is the most recent programme from last Monday (11 September) featuring Bishop's Stortford, Marlow, Flackwell Heath, FC Romania and Letchworth Garden City Eagles as well as features on the FA Trophy ties from last week, Club's First Wins of the campaign and the shock and very sad news on the passing of Leverstock Green's Secretary Dean Bradford:

This week's other Non League Show with discussion on the FA Vase Second Qualifying Round ties:

https://audioboom.com/posts/8371691-22nd-september-2023-solihull-moors-fat2q-brighouse-town-fav2q?playlist_direction=forward

After a successful first stint in management at Banbury, Andy Whing flew the nest in the summer and ended up with some old friends close to home at Solihull Moors. The only unbeaten side in the top of Non League this season, 10 games in, they sit second and whilst realistic, Whing seems relaxed and confident they are ready to continue the same form for the rest of the season.
Another busy week of Non League cup football, the FA Trophy and FA Vase reach the Second Qualifying Round this weekend.
We speak to one of non league’s longest serving Managers, Vill Powell is in his seventh season as gaffer at Brighouse Town and a former FA Trophy winner as a player he knows the magic of the competition as his Club prepares for a home time against fellow Step 4 opposition.
Helping with the insight of the 340 odd clubs in this weekend’s FA Vase second qualifying round Phil Annets is back again this time with his @favasefactfile hat on.
Rounding it all up Jon Couch Executive Editor at the Non League Paper, with the news of the week from the world of non league and a heads-up on the issues to be covered in this week’s Non League Paper.
