The Non League Football Show

Recommended Posts

Ollie Bayliss's BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show will be another good listen at noon today, at least there is some consolation for Boreham Wood getting knocked out of the FA Cup at Accrington Stanley this week as otherwise the show would not have gone ahead due to a live BBC Three Counties Radio commentary. It will feature Hitchin Town, Leighton Town,  Beaconsfield Town, Biggleswade United, Boreham Wood, Ampthill Town and Aylesbury United Ladies:

This weekend's other Non League Show and it's an interesting listen as usual:

https://audioboom.com/posts/8241172-3rd-february-2023-scunthorpe-united-cambridge-city?playlist_direction=forward

Seven seasons ago he was managing in Step 6, now he's managing in the top tier of Non-League at a Club that until the summer had spent over 70 years in the Football League. His first task is to stabilise the Club under a new regime and Jimmy Dean is more than up for that task at Scunthorpe United.
Chairman at Cambridge City. Kevin Satchell has dealt with ground eviction, nomadic existence, High Court actions and planning reviews in his time at the club, yet it still thrives and things can only get better as they near moving into their purpose-built ground some ten years since they left their last permanent home.
Executive Editor at The Non League Paper Jon Couch is on hand to round up the week’s news, and previews another bumper weekend paper as the weather looks favourable again on the football calendar.

Ollie Bayliss features in this interesting documentary about the 'criminal' fiasco of what occurred during the devastating pandemic and how the lottery funding was 'carved up' and distributed by the National League Board very much favouring National League Club's and hanging National League South and National League North Club's out to dry:

This weekend's other Non League Show with special guest Phil Annets previewing the FA Vase Fifth Round ties including Tring Athletic v Bury AFC:

https://audioboom.com/posts/8245083-10th-february-2023-5th-round-last-16-fa-trophy-fa-vase-banbury-united-congleton-town?playlist_direction=forward

It is the last 16 in both the FA Trophy and the FA Vase.  We speak to a Manager in each and find out what success in a National competition means to their clubs.
First up, Banbury United boss Andy Whing enjoying life in a very competitive National North this season after promotion last season. They face a home tie this weekend against National League opposition whose league position he admits belies their current form.
Phil Annets is back with his @FAVaseFactfile hat on, to give us some insight into the competition for Step 5 & 6 clubs before we speak with a manager preparing his side for a trip in the FA Vase this weekend. Richard Duffy had a great pro career as a player including international call-ups, still playing, he also manages now,and is aiming to take Congleton Town all the way to Wembley if he can.
Rounding it all off is Matt Badcock of the Non League Paper, as we discuss the big talking points of the week and what’s to come in this weekend’s edition.

This weekend's other Non League Show with an interesting feature on Wingate & Finchley, I assume some of us have crossed paths with Ahmet Rifat over the years:

https://audioboom.com/posts/8248854-17th-february-2023-ref-support-wingate-and-finchley?playlist_direction=forward

In a week when the BBC are citing the awful statistics of Referees being abused, injured or attacked, we speak with old friend of the Show Martin Cassidy. CEO of independent charity Ref Support he’s actually in positive mood - not that the darker side of football isn’t there, but that the publicity means things are a changing with the FA looking at body cam roll-outs to help Referees, help players and help the game,
Our next guest has a tale to tell. His side 3-0 down with 8 minute of normal time to play in a real six pointer in a potential relegation battle, not only did they win 4-3 deep into injury time but their goalkeeper was the one to score the equaliser too. Ahmet Rifat has been at Wingate & Finchley for nearly a decade and a half as player, Director of Football and now Manager and this is likely to go down as one of his favourite memories.
Rounding it all up Jon Couch from the Non League Paper as the season really does begin to reach the exciting final third.

This weekend's other Non League Show:

The Non League Football Show / 24th February 2023 - Football Governance and Melksham Town (audioboom.com)

A big week in football with the new Government White Paper? We get the thoughts of old friend of the show, fan engagement expert, turned lecturer, Kevin Rye on what it all means, especially for Non League and how people can get involved and influence the likely legislation it is set to bring.
On a slightly different note we speak with a man who has just notched his 2000th game at his club. From Assistant Secretary through a variety of roles behind the scenes Dave Phillips still runs the turnstiles now at Melksham Town now well into his 70s.
Rounding up the week’s Non League news Matt Badcock from the Non League paper and what a week it has been.

The weekend's other Non League Show:

https://audioboom.com/posts/8257109-03rd-march-2023-worksop-town-and-walthamstow?playlist_direction=forward

It's W week. First up, we speak with Craig Parry the manager at Worksop Town who have already secured their Play-Off place this season and now focus their attention on the Northern Premier League Division One East title. He knows it won’t be easy but is pleased that the club seems to be on the right footing on and off the field.
We also speak with a non league legend. Nicky Ironton won 3 Conference titles as a player, 2 FA Trophies and gained England semi-pro caps. As a Manager he’s done well too and seen pretty much all there is to see in non league, but last Saturday was different in a game that had almost everything he saw his Club come back from what looked like a 90th minute ‘winner’ from their visitors to see his Walthamstow side run out eventual 6-4 victors.
Rounding up the week’s non league news it’s Jon Couch from the Non League paper with all the usual Club's in trouble, Managers on the move and National League title tussles.
