The Non League Football Show

Recommended Posts

Ollie Bayliss's BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show should be a good listen at noon today (Saturday) featuring beleaguered Kings Langley, Chesham United, Potters Bar Town, Leighton Town, Real Bedford, Hoddesdon Town, Aylesbury United and obviously FA Vase finalists Newport Pagnell Town as well as featuring topics on Promotions, Relegations and Fixture Congestion:

This week's other Non League Show:

The Non League Football Show / 21st April 2023 - AFC Fylde & Seasons unwind (audioboom.com)

As many seasons come to a conclusion, for some the most exciting week of the season is upon us. We speak with a Manager one point behind but a game in hand at the top of his table looking to secure the title this week. Adam Murray has been at AFC Fylde for less than a season but could be just about to secure legendary status.
Rounding up the week’s news, as many League's come to a close, the Non League Paper’s very own Matt Badcock.

The Iatest episode of the Podcast aII about footbaII in Bedfordshire and it's a very special one with live commentary of last night's Bedfordshire FA Senior Trophy Final between Bedfordshire County League Premier Division Elstow Abbey and Real Bedford FC. A word of warning that the commentator isn't a David Coleman, a Brian Moore, a Barry Davies, a Hugh Johns or a Gerald Sinstadt but a good effort nevertheless:

Ollie Bayliss's BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show should be a good listen again at noon today (Saturday) featuring Bishop's Stortford, Biggleswade United, Amersham Town, Stotfold, Cheshunt, Oxhey Jets and Chalfont St Peter as well as featuring topics on Final Games, Promotions and Play-Offs:

This week's other Non League Show:

https://audioboom.com/posts/8289665-28th-april-2023-billericay-town-ashington-promotion-and-relegation?playlist_direction=forward

It’s the end of the season for many but for our first guest it’s just the beginning, not with us, we’ve followed his journey for years, a new project begins this week as Gary McCann takes on the role of manager of Billericay Town. Calm and collected as ever, the excitement though is clear as he opens up about the challenge ahead.
For our next guest, this weekend is the end of a very successful season whatever the result. We spoke with him earlier this season on an historic FA Cup run and now they are one win away from promotion to Step 4 and the first time back into the Northern Premier League since the 1960s. In the much talked about inter league Step 4/Step 5 play-offs they have possibly the longest journey but that distance on the road is nothing compared to the journey the Club has been on, Ashington Chairman Brian Shotton is keen that that journey has many more legs to come.

Rounding up the week’s news promotions and relations it’s Jon Couch of the Non League Paper who thinks this is his favourite time of year.

Very annoyingly there is no Ollie Bayliss's BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show tomorrow (Saturday) due to the Coronation, i'm sure it could have been fitted in somewhere, even just for an hour to cover the goings on at Bell Close this week, Stotfold's exploits and Boreham Wood's National League Play-Off Semi Final at Notts County on Sunday:

This week's other Non League Show:

https://audioboom.com/posts/8295673-05th-may-2023-boreham-wood-play-off-winners-losers-and-dreamers?playlist_direction=forward

As the Play-Offs round off in Steps 3,4 & 5, they reach the Semi Finals stage in Steps 1 and 2 as the season finally draws to a close.
Luke Garrard is no stranger to leading underdogs to success to taking his side to Notts County this weekend isn't too big a worry for him, albeit he concedes they probably deserved promotion from their standard League season performance. We find out how he is preparing his team for this one.
Matt Badcock is on the road as he helps round up all the Play-Off news of the week and some other stuff from the past 7 days plus preview this weekend's Bank Holiday Non League Paper.

This week's other Non League Show:

https://audioboom.com/posts/8299461-12th-may-2023-kidderminster-harriers-and-the-national-league-play-offs?playlist_direction=forward

Three big games remain at the top of the Non League League season. The finals for the National league, National League South and National League North play-offs, to see who takes those remaining promotion spots to climb further up the Pyramid.
We speak this week with one Manager who if he achieves promotion sees it as his biggest achievement in a short successful management career but also a fairly illustrious playing career too. Russ Penn made over 280 appearances as a player in the Football League and almost the same again as a non league player and 8 England C caps and now has over 130 games a gaffer under his belt too so he’s seen a fair bit of football in his time but this weekend is a big one in the National North play-off. A trip to Brackley and some 90 minutes plus add-ons, and perhaps extra time and penalties stand between them and a place back in the top tier of Non League football.
Rounding up the week’s news this time around it’s Jon Couch from the Non League Paper. Plenty on the National League play-offs, how we got here and what lies ahead this weekend, plus a Managerial merry-go-round that seems impossible to keep up with and some Club administration news good and bad this week and the big stories of this weekend’s Non League paper.

Again, very annoyingly, there is no Ollie Bayliss BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show today (Saturday) due to, wait for it, a pre. Eurovision show, this is after it was also cancelled last Saturday because of the Coronation. You can tell, reading between the lines of Ollie's comment below, that he is totally fed up however, as we know, he is far too nice to complain to his superiors at the BBC unlike the likes of Chris Sutton and Robbie Savage would if their boring 606 show was taken off air:

There’s no Non-League Show tomorrow on BBC Three Counties Radio due to a Eurovision special. I’ll be back next Saturday 20th May for the final show of the season.

This week's other Non League Show:

https://audioboom.com/posts/8303445-19th-may-2023-gateshead-and-non-league-finals-day?playlist_direction=forward

The season is pretty much done but there’s plenty going on behind the scenes both here, at Wembley and at football Club's up and down the Country. It’s actually the busiest time of the year and we wanted to capture a slightly different angle on it all as we go into the final big games this weekend with Non League Finals day. However, to do so it looks like we might have a two part show this week with our ‘second set of guests available early Friday morning to hopefully allow a Friday PM release of their contribution.
That doesn’t mean your ears get time off for good behaviour though. We have plenty to entertain and inform, starting with insight into the FA Trophy final between FC Halifax Town and Gateshead. The focus is more on the latter as we speak to former media man at the Club, now local journalist who has been reporting on the Heed for over 5 decades. It’s great to chat to players, Managers, Chairmen and the like but with big games like these it’s the fans that have lived and breathed the Club often for longer and who for whom Wembley appearances are a big thing. Jeff Bowron knows more about Gateshead FC than most for sure and it’s great to hear what Sunday’s final means for him.
Rounding up the week’s news including last week’s National League, National League South and National League North play off finals is Matt Badcock Editor at Large with the Non League Paper. There’s also much debate around the League allocations out this week and a number of new Managerial appointments too.

Ollie Bayliss's final BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show this afternoon (Saturday) will obviously be a good, albeit sad, listen, featuring Bishop's Stortford, Bedford Town, Marlow FC, Newport Pagnell Town, Risborough Rangers, Boreham Wood and St Albans City as well as featuring topics on Allocations for next season, the Play-Offs and tomorrow's FA Vase Final between Newport Pagnell Town and Ascot United:
