I would say before a ball is kicked on MD1, we need:

Another centre back

2-3 midfielders (Jack Bates should be one)

Another striker

A winger/wingback to replace Peake, and another depth piece.

I feel like this is the bare minimum we need. Should I lower my expectations?

We have 4 centre backs (Thompson, Hawkins, Benjamin, Donaldson).

Definitely need a creative midfielder (- for appearance sake only as we will be playing Gav/Hoof ball again next season!).

We need 2 x wingers/wingbacks.

At least one more striker.

Plus, we only have 3 goalkeepers, so it would be nice to have a couple more!

Mid-June and it already feels like we're likely to be shopping in the bargain bucket for the remaining pieces of the squad.

Payne is decent cover at LCB / LWB, but maybe not quite up to being a regular starting option in either position. I think Donaldson can play wing back, from reading his bio, he's played wide midfield as well as defence, but agree we need more cover in multiple positions.

Looks like 8 spots in the squad remaining.

full back cover x2 - Stallard being one

Two central midfielders - Bates being one

Two wingers - not sure who but the lad on left wing from St Albans looks very decent

2 strikers - Dillon would be nice

Davis was on loan at St Albans from Ipswich U21s - did look very good though.

Striker-wise - with our 'style' of play, I think we need an Adam Cunnington-type to play alongside Wood.

Right back has joined. Last season's Young Player of the Year at Chesham.

He seems okay, just not much to see about him.

He didn’t play much when the season was coming to a close, for reasons I’m not sure.

Reading the comments of this: https://x.com/freeagentsfc/status/1684956943230660608?s=46

He seems to have impressed wherever he’s been, whether that’s Luton, Welling and Chesham, so I’m very optimistic about him. I guess we’re moving away from the wingback stuff this upcoming swason

I'm not so sure about that. I suspect he'll be at right wingback and Billy Leonard will have to move over to the left wingback spot now Lennon has moved on.

ANOTHER forward - Lamar Reynolds.

29yo, last played for Greenock Morton. Was a fairly prolific goal scorer for Brentwood in the Isthmian North, but didn't progress as hoped when he got his chance in the Football League at Newport County, Leyton Orient and Dagenham. Still, he's clearly got something about him and hopefully he can show what he is capable of with this move!
