Cyclists

Recommended Posts

Some are good, some are stupid.

For example, many cyclists know the Highway Code, and are able to tell the difference between a red light and a green light. Others think that the traffic lights don't apply to them, and try their best to scare people using the crossing as they cycle through at high speed. I find the best thing to do in this situation is to swing your arms around violently when you see the cyclist approaching.

Another example: some can tell that the cycle path at the side of the A10 has been built at the expense of the local council and therefore the local people for the safety of the cyclists. Others think it is far better to ignore this lane and either cycle along the pavement onthe other side of the road in an attempt to knock over any pedestrians, or to cycle on the main road in rush hour, causing the traffic to slow down as they try to overtake the cyclist. If I'm in the passenger seat when overtaking, I open my window and point out the error of their ways.

So, does anyone know why some cyclists are such complete fishbrains?

Too right, Badger!

I have come to the conclusion cyclists think there is a special God, who, the minute you climb on a bike, will save you, no matter what stupid things you do.

In the last few months as well as the "ride on the pavement and ignore cycle lanes" and the "red lights don't apply to me" brigade, I have seen:

A lunatic cycling the wrong way in the fast lane of a dual carriageway on the A4 in Maidenhead;

Another who jumps from pavement to road and back to the pavement and the road again as if he was on a slalom - again on the main A4;

Cycling the wrong way up one way streets and giving two fingers to anyone who hooted them;

Cycling at full speed through a pedestrian precinct, shouting at elderly people who did not get out of the way fast enough - and ignored by two police officers on foot patrol.

Not to mention last winter, I counted the number of cyclists with any kind of light on their bike during the hours of darkness - only 20% did! The worst offenders - Posties, closely followed by paper persons - their parents must be mad as well!

The time has come - Cyclists should be forced to have their bikes licensed and carry a number same as all other road users. It would be wizard wheeze for Gordon to raise some more cash and this time not from the motorist.

A couple of Sundays ago, I was sitting in traffic in my car, a cyclist decided to cut down the inside of me and clipped my side mirror, knocking it out of place, no apologies from him he just swore at me because he hit my car. <img src="/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

Under taking for cars is illegal isn't it for bikes?

More importantly Mr H, they should be required by law to carry some form of insurance so they can pay for the damage they cause by scraping their handle-bars down the sides of stationary vehicles !

They should also pay a higher National Insurance Contribution for all the times they ride like Tw*ts and get themselves hurt, and waste time and money in a Hosptial because of their stupidity.

Whenever you cross the road in London beware the Rogue Cyclist who decides to ride the wrong way down a 1 Way Street, or go through a Red Light.

Twa*s

I echo most of what is being said on here. Working up London in the University region you get some right idiots on bikes.

Many of them have no driving licence so have no concept of the road from a motorists point of view. They go through red lights,don't stop for people on crossings and generally have no road sense. I think alot of it is the academic in them.

Perhaps Cyclists should be made to take a test. Also some of the heaps these people ride would never pass an MOT.

The worst bit is the attitude. Any suggestion that they are wrong and its the usual "typical, have a go a the Cyclist you capitalist scumbag" you know the sort of thing they splurt as they drop all their Lentil Sarnies.

I own a bike and so does my boy and my missus. However I would never take the attitude of these people.

I had one today and as I pulled away from the lights he came full pelt up the inside cut across the front between me and the cab in front and then started to panic as he had traffic driving either side of him,so he swung back across the cab to the kerb all this without even a glance behind.

If he had been knocked off it would have been a vehicle driver who got the blame NOT this numpty.

Well, this will p*** you off then. A few months ago, there was talk of a new European directive stating that if an acident occurs between a car and a cyclist then the cyclist can claim off the car owner's insurance regardless of blame. I don't know if it will hit the statute books but what a supid bloody idea!

Car v's Bicycle

Car; expensive, costly to run, polutes the country, kills more people than any other type of transport, stressful and slow.

Bike; cheap, healthy, faster than a car in london and fun.

I know my choice.

cat box ever time.

I despise cyclists who ignore the highway code. And as I have said elsewhere the cyclists who travel by train with bikes during rush hour really piss me off. It is bad enough being jammed in the bloody carriages without bikes taking up loads of space and making it impossible to got off the sodding things when you finally reach your stop. Sorry, rant over.

you cant argue that bikes are a great measn of transport.. sure some people ride em like total tossers, but maybe if there were a few more cops around on traffic patrol this could be stopped.. people cycling to the station n going to london then cycling to work should be encouraged.. the poxy rail firms should run more fking carriges rather than ban em from rush hour .. maybe if more kids rode to school there wouldnt be fk off traffic jams at 8.30 am and less porkster kids

they should have a 'no car days' in summer every now n then..

sure its a pain but people would cope.. somehow

The majority of cyclists are law abiding like the majority of motorists......but like motorists.......a few cyclists give the rest a bad name, and know there is only a slim chance of being caught doing something illegal!

Unfortunately, the whole situation is conspiring to get cyclists and motorists more angry with each other anyway.

In Slough Trading Estate and the surrounding area, a complete set of cycle lanes have been created on the roads. The result of this has been to narrow the road at numerous traffic lights so now they must carry one less lane of vehicles, resulting in huge queues at each junction, at least ten times longer than they used to be. It now can take three changes of light to get through when before it was only one.

Since they were created about six months ago,if I have seen six cyclists on them, that is all - they all ride on the pavement! Also they have painted them on the road where there is a huge street parking problem, so in several places the cyclists could not get on them if they wanted to.

I complained to the Council but spoke to the usual teenage townplanner, with squeaky clean degree in Social Science, who was apparently responsible for the mess, who was more interested in observing the correct Government guidelines on minimum lane widths, than in the fact they that have created traffic chaos and made the pollution worse!

I give up! Bunch of overpaid, over-pensioned wallys!

Don't get me going on bus lanes! This same Wally Road Planner on Slough Trading Estate has created two separate bus lanes within 100 yards (sorry, in the old money!) of a traffic light - one is 40 yards long, then a gap of about 20 yards, then another 20 yard bus lane. These are the only bus lanes for miles! Here, the cycle lanes disappear, so presumably they have to fly, mount the pavement, or get run over by a bus. Perhaps it was his version of the Ultimate Solution for the cyclist problem?!

Possibly. They used to have carriages with areas designated at the ends for people to put their bikes..if that was compulsory it would not be a problem. If you have been on a train during rush hour though you will see that there is not enough room for the people let alone bikes.

All reminds me of the joke about the coloured cyclist in South Africa, but I'd get 'sent-down' if I reproduced it on here. Race relations act, an' all that !

Though's of you who know my E-Mail, send a request with a fiver and I'll send the joke by return !

My husband cycles to work and nearly has an accident every time. He has been forced into the verges many times by idiots trying to overtake on blind bends and then meetingn oncoming traffic. In this case the van/lorry/impatient car chooses to think that a person on a bike is expendable because otherwise his precious vehicle will get scratched or dented. And whist I am on the subject I will say he of the driver because it is invariably an impatient male who causes the problem. We are getting more and more congested in our little island and more and more impatient and rushed and a lot of people will get damaged unless we all wise up and start being a little more tolerant of other people outside of ourselves. I have been driving since the seventies, yes I am that old, and I can remember when driving was a pleasant thing and people were courteous to each other on the road. Now it is a total nightmare. And I wish I had use of an RPG sometimes when I am driving around the country roads in my area and meet up with the smug idiots in their stupid enormous four wheeled drive vehicles, or those dreadful people carriers stuffed full of fat lazy children who cannot be bothered to walk a couple of yards to school who act without even the first bit of consideration for anyone else on the road.

I have more, but I will not bore you all with it.

Thanks for that MHL.

I always thought "pedestrianision" of Norwich City City involved having s*x with a close relative whilst walking round Carrow Road !
