I think the debate around the "third striker" position (assuming Danny and Bertie are 1 and 2) is interesting. Whilst I agree that Ross has worked hard a striker is primarily judged on goals scored and then by impact he makes on the match.

In terms of goals scored Stowey has a couple this season (one a penalty) whilst neither Ross nor Neil Cousins has hit the target. However although it looks like I'm contradicting myself my choice would be Cousins. He has more pace than the other two, which is a big asset at any level, heads the ball better than the other two, and to my mind if you use the game against Cheshunt as an example, gets into more scoring positions than the other two. I know he missed a few that night but he has shown in pre-season that he can finish.

Come on then Stowey and Ross fans, argue your case.....

Difficult to say...

For me Ross is the more natural replacement for Danny as he "leads the line" well where as Bertie, Stowey and Cuz all tend to "play off" a main striker. When Stowe and Brayley have played together we've tended to find ourselves with nobody in the middle, as both look to make runs out wide.

Chris Stowe has looked a lot better coming on as a sub this season as opposed to when he's started games. Both his goals have come after 85 minutes in sub appearances.

At present Ross is the man in possession, and I think he showed there's more to his game than just effort on sat with some nice touches and good strength on the ball.

I'm sure that opportunities will come for all three, and it's who takes their chance best will end up as striker #3.

Ross is still young and has to learn how to protect the ball. On the times he has come on as sub his game suffers from the desire to be everywhere but that is youthful exuberance and a desire to prove himself. He usually calms down after Matt or Justin tell him where to go and what to do...

I would agree with Simon that Bertie and Chris are both similar players and when both are on we lack a out right striker.

I would like to see what Neil Cousins can do behind the front two. I know I'm a critic of the "three up front" but only when we are playing a flat front three. I think we should try giving Cuz a free role position where he could play either behind the front two or pull out wide. Or is that complicating things?

Not sure about Cousins up front, he does seem to have missed a few chances but I suppose its better to be having the chances to miss than not having the chances at all. Would also like to see him given a run out behind the front two, maybe in the essex senior cup?

Ross gives us an option with his height but I think my choice would be Stowie. some have said he isnt playing aswell as he did last time he was with us but be fair to the lad, he has got splinters on his [****!!****] this season and it seems like he has been an unused sub loads of times this season. He isnt going to regain his form sitting on the bench and with no reserve team he needs a bit longer than 10 mins at the end of games. I know he didnt make the most of his recent game when he started but how can a player prove his worth in one game. In the Essex senior I think it could be interesting to see Stowie and Ross up front with cousins tucked in behind them and let Bertie have a rest for the week.

I agree, I think Stowe is a great player, and doesn't get enough of a chance to shine. Wareham did well on Saturday I thought, but apart from then, he hasn't really made much of an impact. I wouldn't play Cousins up there, he's more suited to midfield in my opinion.

Yeah but an attacking Midfield position, which is the reason I would play Cuz behind the front two...

As for Stowe, couldn't agree more Paul. We persist with Ross but he has yet to score, Stowe has scored twice and has pace...Not that Ross isn't a bad player, he just lacks experience.

A strikers main role in life is to score goals. I am of the opinion that Chris Stowe is more likely to score goals than the other two.

Well, that wraps up that arguement...short and to the point, Ryan. Anyone wish to argue with that statement? I'm not. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/top.gif" alt="" />

Cousins is a terrific header of a ball, but that only seems to happen in midfield i.e. he doesn't show as much height in set pieces. I'm not sure about pace, I'd bet Ross would give Neil a good run for his money. I like both their attitudes. So, off the fence, I'd give Neil the opportunity, and with horses for courses they both have a part to play.

Didn't he play for us (briefly) ages ago?

I seem to remember him playing at Wembley (that's Wembley FC and not the stadium that we have visited 3 times!!). It was in the Loctite Trophy/Cup/Puma/Full Members shambles of a competition. I think he played 45 minutes before sodding off to Birmingham City!
