Todays game Eastbourne...

Well it’s happened again! I've paid good money to see a cup game and been ripped off. First half was appalling. No one seemed to be bothered. The end of the second half had it’s moments, but overall very, very poor. Saunders M.O.M, apart from one amazing opportunity at the end, I assume he must have had a blinding half time!

It seems we are concentrating on the league. Glad I know this now as I can save myself a tenner on Tuesday 25th against Stevenage and stay at home!

Totally agree, overall poor game. I thought with the team we had out there it was going to be a good game with hopefully a few goals. However we saw rubbish...yes there were spells were we looked capable of scoring but overall poor!

Up Da Fleet!!

The first half we were terribleand Eastbourne had the better of it.

In the second we had much more of the game and had a few decent chances to win it. Their keepers save from Saunders in the last minute was amazing.

Thought we did enough to deserve the win, but still lack any finishing ability.

On a plus, we have not conceeded a goal in three games.

Sorry to disagree but we didn't, by a long chalk! If we had nicked the win then the Eastbourne fans and players would, quite rightly, felt hard done by. They wanted it more than we did. It wasn’t until the end that a couple of the players woke up and started playing!

There is talk in other posts on this forum about attracting new supporters to Stonebridge Road. If the team doesn’t buck its ideas up they have trouble holding the ones they’ve got already!

I am a season ticket holder and will attend the remaining games and will probably buy another season ticket next season. It just seems to me that they are not bothered about the cups. So I won’t waste my time attending them!

A really poor, game. Wilko's cicking was pure farce, absolutely useless, luckily he did redeem himself with a couple of good saves.

Prothers, Conkers and Macca looked assured at the back (most of the time), Jacko still is a bit off the pace.

Moussa was dreadful, Jay and Dukebox both put a lot of hard work in, and really kept us in it. good to see Ben back, a younger version of Macca the first, but with more vision.

BTW, any news on Mckimms injury ?

Sorry to say Roy and Pinns couldn't have scored if we had been playing for 3 hours.

Their keeper did bring off 2 blinding save, well done (us keepers guild must stick together), and generally the ref kept the game flowing.

Probably the most intersting thing all afternoon was getting back to my car and hearing that Mr Singh was reffing Gillingham.

If that is our favourite Mr Singh a big well done and congrats to him for his promotions. He is destined for the Premiership.

Agree with you there, CG. The Eastbourne fans summed it up also with their chants of 'call yourself a conference side' and 'do you watch this every week' or something along those lines.

Poor run of results continues, IMO, unable to win today, just about managed to beat the worst (probably) conference side ever, players and staff leaving... what is happening to the club. Forget about league status, new ground, full time etc., etc.., priority has got to be with what's happening on (and off) the field.

To use the infamous phrase - "Dont panic, Mr Mainwaring" !!

Things could be an awful lot worse - yes, they could be better as well, but most teams go through these ropey periods every so often - we will survive in the Conference this season and can always start again next year.

Yes, I know we all want more than that, but moaning on about things wont improve the situation. Had Roy buried his header or Jay not miskicked in front of goal today, I doubt everyone would be talking this way - no doubt, we'd still be saying "We didnt play very well", but the overrding impression would have been different.

Instead of focussing on negatives, lets take the positives - another clean sheet, a return to action for Ben Surey and Manny - both of whom impressed (and I doubt Ben was expecting to play an hour of the match)and a solid 30 minutes of action from Macca before his injury.

Not much perhaps, but certainly some positive points

I said earlier on this week it would not be an easy game. Eastbourne looked the better team in the first half, but I though that the Fleet came out and responded well. Think we just about deserved to win and think we can go and take the replay to them. We just need a little bit of luck in front to goal. If Manny is fit to start the replay then we could be in business we definately need him in the team. Also still feel we need a striker, but where do you find one!!!!!!

This seems a fair point - we might even be running out the classic line 'it's the sign of a good side if you win having played poorly' had we nicked it at the end.

That said, while the second half display was better than the shambolic first half, there have been too many second halves this season where we have bombarded the opposition goal, particularly right at the beginning of the half, and not scored. The more this happens, the more you feel you can't just put it down to bad luck.

Credit to Eastbourne, though, for their resilient defending and the two excellent saves from Jay by the 'keeper.
