Todays game Eastbourne...

It would be interesting to see a midfield 4 of Surey Saunders Perkins and Drury - just a bit more creative than what we have on offer at the moment.

As for strikers sign a 40 year old Portway and a 55 year old Bostock.

They would still score more than we are at present! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

There were both positives and negatives to be taken from the game on saturday. The positives were the return to action for Manny and Ben Surey, and James Pinnock's tireless effort.

On the other hand, the negatives were losing Macca, Roy's effort being strangely taken from him again, (he's getting complacent again), and Wilko's kicking. He pulled off some good saves, but either sliced the clearances from the back passes, or sent the drop kicks too long for anyone to chase.

Overall, we produced a better second half performance, especially when Manny came into the fray. I wouldn't have taken Moussa off though, thought he was working well again down the wing with Proths, but would have taken off Essandoh, because he didn't seem to be creating anything much. I would have played Manny up front with Pinno.

Did anyone else feel that in the first 20 minutes Proths attitude seemed to be veering more into the hit it and hope category, rather than the normal stuff we see him play. Just a thought.

Yeah, but Essandoh has become complacent again, knowing that because we are short on forwards at the moment he's virtually guaranteed a place in the team. I think that subbing him, or leaving him out of the starting line up would shake things up a bit, he needs to be shown he's not invincible, and if he plays c**p like he did saturday, he's not got a place as a dead cert.

As for the piece of skill by Jukebox, yes I did see it, fantastic. I agree with the fact that he should have been man of the match, but Jay obviously caught the eye more. Not sure why. Although he did work tirelessly in the middle of the park.

Did anyone see, about 10 before the end, Jukebox came down the left on the overlap, the ball was hit slightly too hard for him by, I think Proths, but he attempted to keep it in on the goal line. Linesman signalled that the ball had gone over the line, but isn't there a rule that if less than half of the ball is over the line it's still in play? There was no way that half of the ball had passed over the line, I was standing right in that corner at that moment. Poor judgement by the linesman, methinks.

..what really bothers me is the lack of quality that we are showing. Good players don't become bad overnight and there has to be a reason why individually and collectively we are so poor compared to a few months ago. Is it a motivational problem?

In a addition how can we keep getting the basics wrong? How many second half corners came to nothing and some were even hit staight out over everyone? That is basic stuff. Where is the variety? Surely we have some tactical discussion and plans for set pieces apart from someone raising an arm in the air to signal the supposed delivery. We don;t seem to be able to change the game plan. Thank goodness that Manny is back.

What are you on about? Moussa had a good game until he was subbed. He was creating a lot of our play, and was combining well with Proths in the second half. First half he didn't have it easy, with proths adopting the old hit it and hope tactic down the left wing.

It's a shame the same can't be said for Essandoh. Was, as I have said before, poor again. Pinno kept telling him to hold the ball up, and he was ignoring him, also what he won in the air he gave to Eastbourne straight away majority of the time.

Na, disagree there. Pinno worked hard, trying to create chances for us, whereas Roy seemed laboured to say the least. He seemed to want the ball sent directly to him, and not have to work for it. He needs to be shown that he's not got a guaranteed place in the team. If anyone should have been taken off for Manny, it should have been Roy. The other thing is, Roy may be able to win the ball, but he couldn't do jack all else with it can he? He didn't hold the ball up well either, and out of the two, pinno worked a lot harder.

Pinno seemed to play better, and after all, now manny's back, you can definitely see that he'll be the one fighting for his place, its more than likely to assume.

I agree that Roy was better than James on Saturday. Our best efforts on goal were from Jay and Roy. I can't recall a single shot on target from James ( or off for that matter ). I agree that he appears to work hard in running around a lot and it has to be accepted that he was the most recent of our existing strikers to actually score a goal. But, although Eastbourne defended well, we seldom get into positions where we look like we are going to actually score and this was certainly the case on Saturday. When we did the post or a brilliant save denied us. We definitely need someone to add to the existing forwards soon. Roy is undoubtedly the best of our forwards in the air but we need someone to compliment this skill and make the most of it especially as he seems to have trouble in shooting ( with the honourable exception of when he has been playing against Exeter both home and away when he has been terrific). I assume that money is as always the greatest problem in finding someone suitable.

The trouble with Roy is he's become too COMPLACENT. He knows that because of the current situation with strikers at the club, it doesn't really matter whether he has a good game, or a bad one, like saturday, he's definitely going to be in the starting line up. By making him a sub, he might become hungry for the ball again, but from what I saw saturday, you lot were watching the wrong game. Roy was one of the worst players on the pitch, and I don't think he really created anything too special. Best chance of the match fell to Drury after his mazy run through the middle. Should have had a bit more power behind the shot, if he had, he may have caused the keeper more of a problem.
