New Players

Recommended Posts

With the amount of football teams in our area i can never understand why we don't attract many players.

For as long as i have supported the club, we have never had a decent size squad, i understand that budgets are sometimes limited, but we never seem to have that odd player to bring in when the chips are down.

I'm not talking about amazing players, but when you look at East Thurrock and the like they have a squad with every member, capable of playing. I just feel that players past and present such as Earl Sterling, Richard Thomas and Andy Oxby aren't really up to the job. Not saying their poor players but they are never going to win a macth or pick it up by the scruff of the neck and play that killer touch.

I'm not bemoaning us just because we don't seem to be playing that well, but i feel that a freshen up could be needed. When you see players like Paul Benson moving from White Ensign into the Conference with Dagenham, it makes me think, perahps we could have gambled on a player like him, as it is he is doing very well and scoring goals despite jumping up somewhat 5 levels of football.

Would it be worth taking a gamble on a young exciting player at the expense of a squad player?.

My final point is of loan players. It was good to see we attracted Adam Parker, he is a qaulity player who we should be looking at getting more of. Why aren't we looking at Thurrock, Grays, Dagenham, even Canvey to bring in some of their fringe players, we have good links, we are local, i know we are all rivals at the end of the day, but we are not in the same standard as them now, but we want to be, and i think that we need to swallow some pride and perhaps ask for some loanees, to help the Blues cause. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bounce.gif" alt="" />

Well Richard Thomas has gone to East Thurrock - presumably then he is capable for them but not for us??? Sterling and Oxby were merely here towards the end of last season for a trial spell when we had nightmare injury problems...

Well we've picked up the likes of Nathan Elder from lower level football - he's an exciting young player. How many young players do you think we should have? this is already the youngest Billericay squad I can remember - to the extent that in my opinion the lack of experience has been one of our major problems in recent matches.

Problem is that clubs are only going to let fringe players go out on loan to get fitness - Parker clearly wasn't fit, every game he struggled to perform in the second half. Incidentally I see he was on the bench for Thurrock at the weekend so I assume his loan has finished.

Heale is a good player. Could definitely play at a higher level.

Yeh, he looked their best player last Saturday
over at Hullbridge.

AFC Hornchurch hold the best crop of players ever seen assembled at ESL level, 15/16 year old billy drake has scored vital goals this year, danny heale and billy holland have the potential to play conf south at least

definitely, i think theyve got it right this time around, the last time they spent money on players they brought in ones that were there for the money, they now have a good buch of lads who will play for the club, and happen to be quality footballers too.
