Crawley game off >>>!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

UP FLEET

The Club is experimenting with Friday nights because of the falling numbers on Saturdays.

Good luck to the club I think Friday nights is a good idea, lads watch the London teams on the weekend (probably down the Pub nowadays with the extortianate prices for the league clubs these days) and have a friday night to watch the Fleet. Good to see the club being pro-active.

Was my first time down the Fleet this season last night, just regrettable that the forces of nature and the Ref decided the pitch was unplayable.

Please to see such loyal supporters. Maybe GNFC could play on a Sunday morning to give you a chance to walk the dog in the afternoon.

So if people were ringing the club at six o'clock and were being told the game is on only for the ref to call it off at 6:10 I would suggest this is a border line decision?

Crawley fans this is hardly our clubs fault, before you start having a go at our club why don't you look at the way your own club is run. Guy assualted there when we played last month, steward shrugs his shoulders. Our Trust chairman writes to your chairman to see if something can be done and is still waiting for a reply. Very clever that.

Do we know who the ref was? Look on the bright side eh Liam, at last we know it wasn't Amy Rayner.

I got there at about 7:00 o'clock, gates locked and a few fans milling about the place, but no stewards. I myself walked down to the away end where I was greeted by two, yes TWO female stewards who told me the game was off.

A good point, Gordon. It's all very well calling in a local ref earlier in the day, but their decision would either be affected by inexact estimations of how long the rain will last and how heavy it will be and hence the game be called off inappropriately, or they'll say it seems fine to play on ath the time, and therefore should be able to be played later.

As for the club informing people, had they got a local referee in early who would more than likely have said the game would be on, only for it to called off at 6:10 when the match ref arrived anyway, the fans would moan they had been misled.

So wwhen should this other qualified ref have come in? midday , when he could have sed yes the game is on, only for the match ref, with a different opinion to come a few hours later and call it off???

Well having got everyone down there by 6.30 and with the forecast predicting that the rain was due to stop (according to your own statement) why not give it a bit longer? I was parked outside the ground between 6.15 and 6.30 and it wasn't raining then.

I'm not saying this decision was entirely down to the club, however why at 6.00 were the people answering the phone saying it's definitely on? Many of us left Crawley area 5-5.30 when according to the statement there was already concern. Then to just leave people standing outside the ground was a bit unprofessional.

Because surely a definate decision needed to be made asap and as said in the statement, it didn't look like stopping when the decision was made, and ofcourse you can never trust forcasts.

The reason for this is in the statement... they didn't want to send fans 'mixed signals' however this was 'earlier in the day' so I suppose you have a point which I will leave to someone else (cleverer than me ) to answer.

It isn't in the statement. That says that by 5.30 your people were concerned at the water on the pitch. However after 6pm the people answering the phones were saying the match was definitely on. Even if the phone answer was that it is raining and we are waiting for the ref to arrive it could have saved wasted journeys (eg I left home at 5.30).

Mixed signals aren't what people want to hear, equally they don't want to hear bullshit either. Better to be honest and let people make their decisions.

Simone, you reeled me in.

Allow me to explain, the game was scheduled on a friday night, which as a result meant 4 lads plus I decided to attend because we thought it a better fixture then being at the weekend (sunday I spend walking your other half - thanks for the reminder), so as a result the club attracted some casual supporters. So as I said, I think friday nights is a good idea, to attract casual fans.

Sorry to see a wasted journey for you

Genuninely sorry for the wasted journey for the other Fleet/CTFC fans.

On the flipside, according to yesterday's NLP (OK, laugh if you want) midweek crowds are 30% below weekend ones.

For every person who turns up on Friday who doesn't normally come I'll give you one who couldn't come as they work Friday to go to football on a Saturday.

Time will tell regarding Friday night games in winter but the first one wasn't exactly a resounding success.

Weather was OK at 3pm on Saturday though.

True, and frustratingly so. But the postponement was a little unfortunate on the club's part, given that it was because of a waterlogged pitch. Had it been a frozen pitch, then the club could have come in for more blame by choosing to play at a time when such a situation was far more likely than at 3pm.

Still, I agree with you on being sceptical about Friday night games with regard to crowd sizes.

Well to quote the offical website: "At around 05.30 pm I was becoming concerned as it was raining as hard as it had all day and there were signs that water was beginning to lay on the surface"

Yet at 18:00, a call to the club, we was told that the match was definiately on. May be the employees of the club should meet up and introduce themselves to each other!
