Crawley game off >>>!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

UP FLEET

Bugger! Anybody want a poster? Have 500 sitting indoors that were going to be made available tonight but will be out of date by the next Canvey Home game. looks like they will have to be binned.

I suppose its too late to organise now but as the fixture was originally scheduled for tomorrow afternoon - could it simply not be re-arranged at haste for tomorrow 3 P.M. Kick off.

does make one wonder on the FA deciding to put the game on a fiday night in December and also how good are the drains under the pitch????

I thought it was the club not the FA that changed it to try and increase attendence figures.

P.S. Pity Sky Sports News can't mention it's off instead of re-hashing the same news for the last hour!

Sorry to say I told u so .....

..... but I did mention about two hours ago that it would be a swamp if it carried on lashing it down at the rate it was earlier

But who on earth thought a Friday night game would attract a higher attendance than a Saturday game ?

Night games always have lower attendances historically !

Doesn't anyone at the club ever check previous records ?

Not withstanding that Riverview Red appears to be the Messiah, and that butter ( or ####) wouldn't melt in his mouth, but:-

a)It has been one of the driest winter periods for a while, so why didn't the rain soak through to the super duper drainage system ? ( and don't tell me that the top surface was too hard !)

B) It had stopped raining by the time I left the Plough at 7pm !! So given that most of the Crawley fans ( and me & my mates !) were already there, why not give it a while ?

c)I do not wish to jump on the bandwagon of recent events vis a vis Newcastle/Charlton, Plymouth/Preston & Torquay/Stockport ( and I feel sorry for the relevant fans involved here ), but surely there is a better way of doing this ? ok, if there had been a sudden snowstorm, or a sudden downpour half hour before kick off that flooded the ground then sure, call it off. But, F*** me, it had been raining/snowing all day !! So why does it take the ref to call it off at 6.10 ? Can not local based refs inspect the pitch earlier & advise ?

No doubt someone will fill me in with the facts ( or the usual b#llocks !) somewhere along the line here.

Yours very f*cked offully,

Hirsty,

Don't you just love a smart alec !

The Club is experimenting with Friday nights because of the falling numbers on Saturdays.

I can see the logic behind having a night game on 30th December instead of the afternoon of the 31st when many people will be looking to make the most of a 'new year weekend' travelling to relatives, parties etc during the day on new years eve.

It remains to be seen whether the Friday night experiment will work during the middle part of January though. That said, the Club should not be criticised for at least giving it a try and investigating all possibilities of increasing the home attendances.

It a bloody disgrace and incompetence of the highest order! My brother rang the ground at 18:00 and asked if the game was on and was told it was. He asked the person that they were absolutely sure as he would be driving up from Canterbury. It was confirm to be definitely on. Now if this person new that the ref had not made an inspection yet, or that there was any doubt, then they should not be saying that the game will be on!!! We drove up from Maidstone and there were at least 10-15 home supporters outside the gate and I could see a few Crawley fans going in the bottom gate, with more arriving. All were pissed off! We might be a professional club, but after this amateur performance tonight it is little wonder attendances are falling. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" />

To be fair, it is the first home game we've had postponed since the drainage system was sorted out a few years back.
