Kentish Town Football Club

You have to laugh, Rhodes has been 'bigging' up Claremont road since he first posted on here, saying it would make Kentish Town the Man united of div 1, when in actual fact, its a dump that is falling down. Now come the first game of the season Hendon's pitch that they have had so many problems with in the last few years is unplayable. So the game is now moved to Wembley FC, maybe Rhodes think's the game is at Wembley stadium lol.

To say Wembley FC have one of the best pitches in the country is laughable, and just utterly stupid.

It's not even one of the best pitches in the county of Middlesex!!!!

With tonights rain, it will prob be even worse.

Our pitch looked amazing on Saturday, really lovely.

Poor old Rhodes I sometimes think he is a slice short of a loaf LOL.

the sooner that Kentish town get their own forum section on here the better, as nobody cares about them on here, and dont want to know about every single thing that they do(poorly)!

So if anyone who wants to know can log on there instead.

I don't think it was because Hendon's pitch was unplayable. On Saturday it was in very good condtion all things considered.

Definately better then I have ever seen Edgware's pitch.

AllowIT - That may be your opinion but it's not necessarily the opinion of everyone else apart from perhaps the nutter BewareofRhodents. Some of your comments on here have been a bit suspicious to say the least for example my supposed
'sacking' at Haringey Borough and where you put poorly' in brackets, you must have put that for a specific reason. What is your connection with the SSML if you don't mind me asking and who do you support.

Hi folks - Another fine win for Kentish Town this afternoon you'll no doubt be pleased to hear, 2-0 over Buckingham Athletic who didn't really pose a serious threat following two first half goals from Lee Scott on 19 minutes and Daniel Young on 34 minutes. We took our foot off the gas in the second half whereas last Wednesday we didn't so the Manager wasn't too happy but I suppose you can't win 8-2 every game and three points is three points. If anyone wants a programme from the game PM me your home address.

Phoinex - Many thanks, it's nice to get some praise for a change as I get the impression one or two people on here are waiting for us to fall flat on our faces. We played well today without really getting out of first gear, Buckingham Athletic were mesmorised by some of our play and the intricate passing movements that have been perfected in training by the Manager Frank Zanre and Coach Clement Temile, the former Nigerian International player I managed to sweet talk into joining us.

I thought you good people out there would want to read all about our comfortable 2-0 victory over Buckingham Athletic on Saturday, I wouldn't want to deprive you:

Kentish Town 2 Buckingham Athletic 0

Expectation and confidence was sky high going into this afternoons league fixture with Buckingham Athletic following Wednesday evenings incredible 8-2 success over Brache Sparta and following an even start Town had the first opportunity when Josh Standford's snap shot was gathered low down by the visiting keeper. Athletic were clearly not intimidated by the news of Town's famous midweek success over last seasons runners up and were putting up some strong resistance in defence whilst enjoying one or two positive forays into the Town half of the field. Town then proceeded to step up a gear and a superb run down the right by the hugely skilful Thomas Looney resulted in an accurate cross that was just cut out in time by the defence. There was nothing they could do on 19 minutes however when excellent work by Daniel Young resulted in a pin point low cross for man of the moment Lee Scott to hammer home his fourth goal in three games to give Town a deserved lead.

The watching Town contingent half expected the floodgates to open as was the case on Wednesday however to Athletic's credit they packed the defence despite being under siege and restricted Town to mostly long efforts notably from Josh Standford and one rocket shot from Thomas Kanaris that would have taken the goalkeeper and the net with it had it been on target. There was nothing the visitors could do on 34 minutes when some intricate passing movements saw Daniel Young get on the end of a precise cross from the right to sweep the ball home to give Town a comfortable 2-0 lead. Town proceeded to create a number of excellent and clear cut scoring opportunities and should have really increased their lead still further prior to the interval, as it was defender Aaron Hutchins made a miracle last ditch tackle to prevent Athletic pulling a certain goal back throwing his 6 foot 3 inch frame full length and going in bravely where it hurts.

Following the break Town appeared to take things a little easy and were given one or two wake up calls by the Athletic forwards with keeper and Captain James Noonan being called into the action. Whereas on Wednesday evening Town pursued further goals and went for the jugular this was not the case today although Athletic were not posing any major threat and Town's defence marshalled superbly by the McMullen brothers Tom and Ben and the faultless Hutchins held firm throughout. Manager Frank Zanre and Head Coach Clement Temile brought on three late substitutes Shaka Cole, David Dawson and Robert Pattwell to try and put new life into the side however Town had done enough in the first period to secure the three points which takes them up to a healthy fifth in the table after only three games.

Today's fixture was switched at short notice from Hendon's Claremont Road ground to the Sun Postal Sports FC ground in Watford due to a late problem with the groundshare agreement with Hendon Football Club however this is expected to be resolved shortly and spectators who plan to attend Saturday's crucial home match with league title favourites Bedford Valerio United are asked to contact the Club first or check the Website www.kentishtownfc.co.uk for confirmation of venue.

Town Team: Noonan, B McMullen, Malcolm, T McMullen, Hutchins, Zanre, Looney, Kanaris, Standford, Young, Scott. Substitutes: Cole, Dawson, Pattwell, Lynch.

Gavin - I think our blue kit was still in the wash last week but we're in blue tomorrow against Bedford Valerio United which should be a classic as they've currently played three and won three.

I thought you might like a read of the Chairman's programme notes for the game:

Welcome to the Abrahams Stadium home of Wingate and Finchley Football Club who have very kindly agreed to host this afternoons fixture whilst our groundshare agreement for with Hendon Football Club is still being finalised. We are extremely grateful to the Secretary of Wingate and Finchley Mr Alan Evans for giving his kind agreement at very short notice for the game to take place at their superb facilities. I am delighted to report incidentally that we will be playing at Hendon next Saturday when New Bradwell St Peter will be the visitors to Claremont Road, in what will be our fourth consecutive home league fixture.

With no midweek match this week it has given me an opportunity to take a step back and reflect on the season so far and I have to say it is very much a case of so far so good. The pre-season campaign consisted of three hugely useful fixtures, two of which were against Spartan League Premier Division opposition and these games have really stood us in good stead for the long haul ahead of us. Unfortunately we went down 3-1 at Stony Stratford Town in our first league outing however what then followed still leaves me pinching myself and expecting to wake up at any moment. An 8-2 win in this day and age of competitive football is a rarity in itself but for Town to achieve that feat in a Spartan League Division 1 fixture and against the mighty Brache Sparta into the bargain was something bordering on Roy of the Rovers proportions. Last Saturday we ‘entertained’ Buckingham Athletic in a game played at Sun Postal Sports Football Club and we spent a highly enjoyable afternoon in their company as well as winning the game comfortably 2-0 with first half strikes from Lee Scott and Daniel Young.

I have also been delighted with the positive press publicity the Club are receiving from the local press, namely the Islington Gazette and we were once again featured in a big way this week and on the same page as coverage of Arsenal’s exploits, the article can be viewed on the next page. This just goes to show what is achievable at Kentish Town Football Club with hard work and endeavour and the players are reminded of this in no uncertain terms. I have a huge amount of respect and admiration for the players who give their all for the Club, some of whom have stuck with us through thick and thin from the tender age of twelve and I strongly believe that they are about to be rewarded, not only with some silverware to put on their mantle pieces at home but also by playing a higher standard of football in the Spartan League Premier Division next season.

I hope you will spend an enjoyable afternoon with Kentish Town Football Club and may the best team win.

Gavin - Further to my earlier post here are the main programme notes from today's game which is taking place at Wingate and Finchley FC, as was the case at Wembley the other week their decent pitch will suit our Brazil 1970 style of play down to the ground:

'This afternoon, it is our great pleasure to welcome the players, officials and supporters of Bedford Valerio United to our temporary home for the day, namely Wingate and Finchley Football Club’s Abraham’s Stadium. Whatever the outcome of the contest we hope that they enjoy their brief stay with us and have a safe journey home to the McMullen Stadium, the same sentiments are, of course, extended to Hampton based Match Referee Mr Aiden Farrelly and his two Assistants Mr Butler from Ash in Surrey and Mr Savill from Stoneleigh, also in Surrey. Once again our players will have been instructed to respect Mr Farrelly’s decisions at all times and make his job as easy as possible, any not doing so will be harshly dealt with by the Club.

The corresponding fixture last season, albeit played at the home of Potters Bar Town Football Club where we groundshared during the 2005/2006 campaign resulted in a 1-1 stalemate and the match at Bedford United and Valerio, as they were then known, resulted in a 4-1 victory for our opponents who have started this season in fine fashion with three wins from their first three outings notably a 4-2 win at Sun Postal Sports who’s fine ground we were delighted to use last Saturday. We understand from a reliable source that Bedford are a fine side this season and we are clearly in for a difficult afternoon, it would appear that they are hell bent on returning to the Spartan League Premier Division, a status they lost only the season before last when they were sadly relegated along with Hoddesdon Town.

A report from our comfortable 2-0 victory over Buckingham Athletic last week can be viewed in this programme with Town rarely out of second gear particularly in a second period where the job appeared to already be done, however Frank Zanre and Clement Temile were not entirely happy at Town taking their foot off the gas and any repeat of that today is certain to be punished. Goals from Lee Scott, his fourth in the first three league outings, and Daniel Young gave Town a 2-0 interval lead however a mention has to go to new recruit Josh Standford for his contribution in the firing line and we are delighted to have Josh with us again today whilst Club’s at a much higher level are fighting it out tooth and nail for his signature. Clearly this news will have our opponents today shaking in their boots however we too are quivering at the thought of facing Bedford’s Robert Taylor who hit a hat trick against Arlesey Athletic on the same evening Josh was doing likewise against Brache Sparta.

The league table currently shows Town in fourth place on goal difference after three games thanks to, our still widely talked about, 8-2 success over Brache Sparta, no doubt that result will have been noted in the corridors of power at the McMullen Stadium and eyebrows raised. Brimsdown Rovers are the only other Club, along with Bedford, to still hold a 100% record this season having scored fourteen goals without reply including a 6-0 success at Cranfield United who Town visit in two weeks time. You may wish to note incidentally that our Challenge Trophy tie with Premier Division side Biggleswade United has been switched to Biggleswade’s fine Second Meadow home and the encounter will take place on Tuesday 12 September, kick off 7.45.

Enjoy this afternoon’s game which, on paper, promises to be a classic'.

At least the Chairman has a grip on reality and isn't getting carried away with Kentish Town's start, unlike at least one person I could mention.

Potters Bar Town - Er who do you think penned the report for him, the first time he saw it was in the programme today. I think you can't wait for us to fall flat on our faces for some reason, I assume you have seen our result today, a 4-0 win over Championship favourites Bedford Valerio United, I hardly think that's getting carried away.

Potters Bar Town - I think it's because he has got complete confidence in me unlike another Club's Chairman I can think of. I'll remind him about your e-mail however he's a busy man particularly now his Football Club is going places.

Folks - Our press report from Saturday, enjoy!

Saturday 2 September

Spartan South Midlands League Division 1

Kentish Town 4 Bedford Valerio United 0

Town reached new heights this afternoon in only their fourth fixture of the campaign by defeating Championship favourites Bedford Valerio United who boasted a 100% record before play. In a game kindly hosted by Ryman Division 1 North Club Wingate and Finchley, due to Town being unable to play home fixtures at Hendon's Claremont Road until next week, Town hit the ground running and made their presence felt from the word go creating a number of early opportunities. Josh Standford, who was once again leading the front-line despite being chased by Club's from a much higher level, should have put Town ahead on just five minutes but saw his deft shot go inches past the post when looking destined for the net.

On ten minutes however Town took the lead through the prolific Lee Scott for his fifth strike in four outings when seizing onto a ball to chip home from close range. Bedford started to find their feet midway through the first period following the early Town onslaught and only a double save from keeper James Noonan saved the day when grabbing the ball at the last minute from an onrushing forward. Other forays by the visitors into Town's half were competently dealt with by the masterful Aaron Hutchins who had been an injury doubt right up until kick off, right back Ben McMullen was also in superb form allowing nothing to get past him.

Town made two changes during the interval with Baron Charlery entering the fray for Philip Lynch and Aaron Serieux coming in for the injured Thomas Looney. Standford wasted no time in creating space for himself to send a rasping shot just wide of a post. Bedford, as was the case in the first period, were contained by Town's backline however there was always a worry that a slip would bring them level. That fear was dispelled on 63 minutes when following some superb work from the classy Standford and a precision pass to the right wing, David Dawson picked up the ball and let fly to send a low drive past the helpless Bedford keeper.

Town breathed a sigh of relief to have put some daylight between them and the visitors who appeared stunned by the intricate passing movements and robust tackling of Town's midfield led by Club stalwart Thomas Kanaris. On the 70 minute mark Town were awarded a free kick some 20 yards from goal in a central position and Standford stepped up as cool as a cucumber to send an unstoppable shot low past the keeper.

Substitute Aaron Serieux was harshly dismissed for Town for two bookable offences but fortunately by this time the game was beyond the visitors reach although they hit the bar with a speculative shot that caught out keeper Noonan. Town had the last word just before time when Daniel Young popped up at the far post to make it 4-0 and deservedly get on the score sheet for his painstaking endeavours.

Manager Frank Zanre and Head Coach Clement Temile were over the moon with Town's display and they now look forward to entertaining Milton Keynes based New Bradwell St Peter on Saturday in a game that will definitely be held at Hendon Football Club, kick off 3.00.

Town Team: Noonan, McMullen, Malcolm, Hutchins, Lynch, Young, Kanaris, Scott, Standford, Dawson, Looney.

Substitutes: Zanre, Charlery, Serieux, Quattromini, Cole.
