You let a goal in...thats shocking!! Surely Ampthill deserve result of the week for keeping the almighty all conquering Kentish Town to only 2-1.

Lato - They caught us cold just after the interval but fair play, Ampthill played well and gave their all, it just wasn't enough at the end of the day.

Rak - Thanks for that vote of confidence, when you were at Kentish Town did you ever imagine we would be flying high at the top of the division with everyone shouting about us from the roof tops. The frightening thing is that we haven't even scratched the surface yet, we're still in first gear.

Haha.

I only played 2 competitive games didn't I?

And scored 2 goals :-) (from midfield)

I didn't think you would be doing this well, but am very happy. I like Scott, Dawson and Kanaris. Very good players, nice that it is going so well, I just hope you go on to win it, which is a long way away at the moment.

Rak - Thanks but the end of April isn't that far off, just seven months. Yes Lee Scott, Dave Dawson and Thomas Kanaris are frightening players, Dawson got a great goal today from absolutely nothing and Scott netted from the spot in the last minute. Also the team rarely changes, it's virtually the same eleven week in week out, Nottingham Forest 1977/78 style, hence our so called telepathic tag.

Sorry folks but I can't seem to attach our match report from Saturday as a link at present, at least it will save you the trouble of clicking into it:

Saturday 23 September

Spartan South Midlands League Division 1

Ampthill Town 1 Kentish Town 2

Kentish Town sit proudly two points clear at the summit of the Spartan South Midlands League Division 1 following this superb, often backs to the wall, performance at promotion rivals Ampthill Town who themselves were riding high in fourth place before play.

On a hot afternoon on a fine playing surface Town took to the field without two key players, Thomas Kanaris and Thomas Looney, however that did not deter them from enjoying the lions share of the play early on and worrying the tall home side's back line from the word go. The on form Dave Dawson looked particularly lively up front and it was he who opened the scoring for Town on the 27 minute mark when gathering the ball in a central position before unleashing a fierce drive that bounced awkwardly in front of the keeper before entering the net. It was the perfect start for Town however the goal seemed to awake Ampthill from their slumbers and they had a good opportunity to equalise almost straight away only for keeper James Noonan to pull off a trademark block. Town's Shaka Cole then prevented a certain Ampthill goal with some excellent covering play when a through ball caught the defence off guard.

Lee Scott who had been unusually quiet up to this point suddenly sprang into life when finding himself free on the right and with the keeper off his line was very unlucky to see his powerful shot go into the side netting. Cole then proceeded to miss a golden opportunity for Town just before the interval when he lashed at a loose ball from six yards out when he had far more time than he realised, this would have given Town a commanding first half lead.

Ampthill's Manager could clearly be heard giving his troops a severe dressing down over their interval oranges and Town's fears were realised ten minutes into the second period when a swift break down the left saw Stuart Reynolds collect the ball and run on unchallenged to hit a shot past Noonan for the equalising goal. Ampthill now had the bit between their teeth and the McMullen brothers in particular were superb in defence thwarting everything that was thrown at them with left back Daryl Malcolm also commanding.

Town were able to weather the storm and Ampthill were clearly getting frustrated when unable to make any further breakthrough, Town made a double substitution midway through the half bringing on Chris Zanre for the injured Ben McMullen and Daniele Quattromini for brother Roberto. Both teams knew that the next goal was likely to win the fascinating contest and the game often resembled a chess match with no quarter being given due to so much resting on the outcome.

Town were awarded a free kick some 25 yards out and Cole was unlucky to see a shot blocked. With five minutes remaining Nathan Idehin was then introduced for the superb Daniel Young who had given his all and it looked as if the points would be shared, however the game was to have a dramatic final twist in its tail. With a minute left on the clock a speculative long ball out of defence was chased down by Lee Scott who was taken down in the box and Referee Mr Couzens pointed to the penalty spot much to Town's joy. Scott confidently stepped up to the mark himself and, as cool as a cucumber, sent the keeper the wrong way for his eighth goal of the season to give Town all three points.

Town now have a week off before returning to action on 7 October when they entertain struggling Buckinghamshire side Winslow United at Hendon FC, kick off 3.00.

Town Team: Noonan, B McMullen, Malcolm, T McMullen, Hutchins, Young, Cole, R Quattromini, Scott, Dawson, O'Leary. Subs: Zanre, D Quattromini, Idehin.

I'm going to break my vow of silence to you Rhoides and ask why is that picture one for me. Is there a small balding Polish winger in the picture?

Folks - Just to let you know that Spidermanor and Potters Bar Town's best mate Phil Rolt rang me earlier to say that Hoddesdon Town are unable to host us on Saturday week and he has therefore arranged for us to go to Brimsdown Rovers, I know that is news you have all been eagerly waiting for particularly as it promises to be the game of the SSML season so far in all three divisions.

Maldini - I find that comment a little on the offensive side, the game has all the makings of an old fashioned classic and I even suggest that some of you give your own games a miss on the day and attend, I'm sure you won't regret it. It's funny that the question has been asked as to why Hoddesdon couldn't stage the scheduled game and that's still a bit of a mystery, my feeling is that they don't want to show their hand to us so early in the season where their programme is concerned and hope that the game is put off until late April, Phil Rolt was a little elusive come to think of it when I asked him why.
