The team is close to picking itself, but I worry about the lack of back-up in defence.

If Stephens and Bastian have gone / are not available for whatever reason, and Patrick is a couple of weeks away from fitness, we look short of cover.

Not a bad call even if I say so myself!

The 2nd half (yet again) was a much improved display, due to having Dave Allen in a back three, if we are (and it looks like we are) going to play with a back three you have to have someone with pace.
Look at the goal we conceded, as soon as Sudbury hoofed the ball over & into the "HECTACRES" of space (exactly what happened at Ruislip & Witham) you could hear half the crowd grown as we all knew what was going to happen, Magona as part of a back three? Nooooooooooooooooo!
Left back as part of a four (only if there are injurys mind!) then yes, the guy has no pace & that challenge where he lunged at the guy so late they were about to take the resulting corner was awful, how on the website report they can say he was in good form is somewhat baffling to me.

Back three = Allen, Tickner & Patrick with
Campbell/Ritchie on the right & Nyman/Bastian on left

in the middle Valandia, Smith & Mackey

Crace & Hammett up front.

Hughes & others? cant really comment as never seen them!!!!!
Hunt, so far has been awful so no starting place,

Our boy Bryan? still giving 110% but finishing? well the jury is still out.

Perfect call in my eyes LS, that is a quality, pacefull & solid back FOUR, could not agree more, but the chances of seeing it before its too late

I thought that Magona looked ok second half, and is probably better suited as part of a 3 than at full-back. That's not to say I think he should be starting though. You're absolutely right when you say that he needs someone with pace who can tidy up, and to be fair, that's exactly what Allen brings.

I didn't think Hunt played badly last night either to be honest, so I'd say that the jury is still out. Must admit, I've not seen every game this season, and have missed a couple of poor performances it would seem, but from last night, I don't think we look all that bad. 6th place after 6 games with a team containing many players that hadn't met each other a few months back isn't a bad effort in my eyes. If we improve further on the AFC Sudbury game, then I can see us having a decent season.

Having someone with pace who can tidy up after Magona appears to be wasting a position on the field. Why not have that person playing in a back four in the first place. We were caught short at Witham down our left and on Tuesday evening. When Sudbury 'hoofed' the ball up our left hand side, I said to our photographer that we were now in trouble and look what happened.

I'm not convinced about a back three at this level. i think we have the players for a solid 442. team looking settled, but how many of the fringe players will stick around without a game? if they leave, then we will be very lacking in depth..

But surely a defence containing Patrick and Campbell would stutter too much?
