for what it's worth, having done the journey round the M25 and up the A12, it is a pain, and the train to Bury is a nightmare,

Try A10 to Royston then accross country to Newmarket - Bury

Or M11, A11 and A14. Did some work up there recently, and got there in just over an hour

I live up here & takes just over the hour......unless you leave at 0430hrs then you can do it in about half that time!!
