Fred The Bugle

Recommended Posts

Just read on the official website that Fred has passed away this evening.

I never knew Fred personally but admired him for his persistants in playing that instrument in far flung corners of the country.

My deepest sympathy goes to his friends and family on this sad occassion.

Apparently there will be aminutes silence before the game on Saturday.

With a bit more reflection - can you imagine how many people in grounds up and down the country would inadvertantly remember Fred and his Bugle?

You'd only have to mention to opposition fans about the "bloke who played the Trumpet" and specialised in Christmas carols at any time of the year! and they would probably jog a memory.

How many opposition fans commented, good and bad, on his ability to play that instrument and on occassions gave him a chorus of abuse about where they would stick his "trumpet"......

Very sad.

I was thinking the very same thing, he was (in)famous, didn`t care if he was standing on a terrace on his own or standing in the middle of the Yellow Army you would always hear Jingle Bells.

Before Fred had his trumpet he played the bugle. Of course, it's very limited with three notes so he soon invested in a trumpet.

Fred always made sure he was as good as he could be at anything he attempted, so he signed up for the Castle Point Brass Band to get practice for match days.

After a couple of months playing, he only went and won best newcommer at their annual rewards, leaving the room of young trumpet playing kids devestated!

Of course, though slightly embarrased, he accepted the award!

You Are My Sunshine

My only sunshine.

You make me happy

When skies are grey.

You'll never know, dear,

How much I love you.

Please don't take my sunshine away

The other nite, dear,

As I lay sleeping

I dreamed I held you in my arms.

When I awoke, dear,

I was mistaken

And I hung my head and cried.

You are my sunshine,

My only sunshine.

You make me happy

When skies are grey.

You'll never know, dear,

How much I love you.

Please don't take my sunshine away.

I'll always love you

And make you happy

If you will only say the same

But if you leave me

To love another

You'll regret it all some day;

You are my sunshine,

My only sunshine.

You make me happy

When skies are grey.

You'll never know, dear,

How much I love you.

Please don't take my sunshine away.

You told me once, dear

You really loved me

And no one else could come between

But now you've left me

And love another

You have shattered all my dreams;

You are my sunshine,

My only sunshine.

You make me happy

When skies are grey.

You'll never know, dear,

How much I love you.

Please don't take my sunshine away.

Louisiana my Louisiana

the place where I was borne.

White fields of cotton

-- green fields clover,

the best fishing

and long tall corn;

You are my sunshine,

My only sunshine.

You make me happy

When skies are grey.

You'll never know, dear,

How much I love you.

Please don't take my sunshine away.

You are my sunshine,

My only sunshine.

You make me happy

When skies are grey.

You'll never know, dear,

How much I love you.

Please don't take my sunshine away.
