Nicky was a bit older than 13, I'd say 15 because Dan was in the Romford Youth team. Nick was a sub for the Ressies as they were a bit short due to first team callups. That was in the days when we played the 2nds in the Essex and Herts, used to cut the pitch up big time but it did generate a lot of interest culminating when Staggy skippered the Ressies to a Fred Budden Cup Final victory at the Stadium circa 2002.

Tony Maynard was outstanding as a 16 year old and stood out with his ability to turn defences. In September 03 he played for the Colts against Enfield, I think, at Barking as our ground not available on that Sunday afternoon. The pitch was a dustbowl but amid much provocation TM won the match with 2 superb goals prompting his call up to the Capital League in the week against Stevenage containing a very tall Centre Half who had played for Farnborough the previous season in the FA Cup.

Tony did the same to him, tucking home a great goal resulting in his call up for the first team squad on the Saturday, methinks at Basingstoke.

Trust that clears some things up.

Blackballed asked who played prior to the year 2000?

Two players - first is Michael Collier who palyed in 1995/96, making his debut against Harlow, at the age of 16. Urchins were three up but lost 5-3 in the end.

The second is Danny Cowley who came on as sub in the match at Windsor and Eton, which was Michael Collier's second match for the Urchins.

My thanks to Michael Collier who supplied this information.

Michael Collier therefore holds the record as being the youngest ever goalkeeper to play in the first team.
