Seeing the way you all speak about him I did realise this.

Well what can I say, our visit there last season was greeted by a disgusting venue. Toilets were filthy, changing rooms and showers covered in mud and the pitch was too dangerous to play on, so match was called off. Twice we travelled to that ground, with both games being called off and had no prior warning and its quite a trek from our neck of the woods. Did a good programme though.

TOKYNGTON MANOR v AFC DUNSTABLE

(Molten Spartan South Midlands League Division 1)

Today, it is our great pleasure to welcome the players, officials and supporters of AFC Dunstable to the Viking Sports Ground for the afternoon. The same sentiments are, of course, extended to Match Referee Mr Paul Howard from Finsbury Park and his two trusted Assistants, Mr Mike Heavey from Colindale and Mr Percy Brown from the delights of Potters Bar, whatever the outcome of the proceedings we hope that they enjoy their brief stay with us and have a safe journey home. Our players will have been instructed to be on their best behaviour this afternoon and respect Mr Howard’s decisions at all times, making his job as easy as possible, any not doing so will be dealt with accordingly by the Club.

 

As today’s match programme goes to press we understand that, should there be any further rainfall, the encounter may well be thrown into doubt however we have to think positively and hope we are given the opportunity to gain sweet revenge for the cruel and clinical 6-0 drubbing AFC Dunstable inflicted on us at Creasey Park on a cold 7 November afternoon. Incredibly Manor have played just five fixtures since that forgettable day thanks to the Siberian weather conditions experienced throughout December and most of January however events off the field of play recently have certainly kept everybody at the Club occupied and on their toes. Firstly we lost Manager Shayne Chandler who resigned last month following just two brief months in the hot seat and secondly, moving lock stock and barrel back to the Viking Sports Ground from Reynolds Field where the First Team had groundshared with Hanwell Town since the start of the season but were unfortunately unable to sustain the cost of having two grounds.

 

Atanas Chakalov has recently been appointed First Team Manager and Head Coach and will be ably assisted by Tim Maynard who will continue to play. Atanas will work hand in hand with Reserve Team Coach Uly Ashun and Youth Team supremo Ricardo Soares, indeed should today’s fixture be postponed Atanas will no doubt divert to Berkhamsted where the Reserve team have a League appointment.

 

Our last home fixture on 28 November at Reynolds Field produced an impressive 4-1 win against a tricky Sport London e Benfica outfit who looked everything but a side second from bottom with just eight points to their name, however a league table never lies and it was to Manor’s credit that we overran our local rivals after the break. The beleaguered Shayne Chandler was finally able to exorcise his demons following four successive defeats including two particularly poor performances at AFC Dunstable and at Combined Counties League Division 1 minnows Feltham on 18 November in the Middlesex County FA Premier Cup. With the score tied 1-1 against Benfica at the break the eventual 4-1 victory looked light years away but two goals in the space of ten minutes from Daniel Boateng and Tom Crouch, on 52 and 62 minutes, paved the way and it was wonderful to see Tim Maynard strike the ball firmly into the roof of the net on 88 minutes for his first goal of a campaign that has been frustratingly dogged by injury.

 

The scheduled visit of Stony Stratford Town to Reynolds Field on 5 December was postponed however Manor did manage a visit to Bedford’s McMullen Park before the Siberian winter really took a hold and the impressive 3-1 victory was Shayne Chandler’s final game in charge before the surprise resignation bombshell along with his ultra loyal backroom team of Stephen Playle and Doug Smith. The fairly comfortable victory at Bedford was largely due to an inspired performance by Daniel Boateng who netted a hat trick on 19, 28 and 50 minutes before Bedford scored a late consolation goal. We are fortunate that Daniel has remained with the Club following Shayne Chandler’s sudden departure and subsequent return to Beaconsfield SYCOB, also staying with us are Grant Robson, Dominic Rhone, Craig Cauldwell-Smith and Gary Currell and we thank those players for their loyalty, Shayne clearly brought a lot of quality to the Club in his short two month tenure and we would like to place on record our sincere thanks for his efforts along with Stephen and Doug.

 

Following the win at Bedford, Manor’s following six fixtures were all victims of the freezing weather and the Club were frustratingly all dressed up with nowhere to go over the entire Christmas and New Year period. Match programmes were also painstakingly produced for the aborted home fixtures however photographs from previous encounters with Feltham, Holmer Green and Sport London e Benfica were salvaged and can be viewed in today’s issue.

 

Our Chairman Terry Springer had planned to address you all with a Christmas message in the Kings Langley programme on 19 December in order to show his appreciation to everybody involved with the Club and to thank you for your continued support however that was another fixture that ‘bit the snow’ and will have to be re-arranged by the beleaguered League fixture Secretary. Terry has however penned a brief message in today’s programme which follows these notes.

 

The Reserve side have also been without any action since 12 December when they travelled to Ampthill Town and were narrowly beaten 2-1 in an enthralling contest. Uly Ashun’s men took the lead on 16 minutes and had the lions share of the play up until the hour mark when Ampthill equalised, the home side, who are riding high in the Spartan South Midlands Reserves League Division 2, then took the lead on 79 minutes and were able to keep Manor at bay until full time. We wish the Reserve Team luck today in their endeavours at Berkhamsted and hope they gain sweet revenge for the embarrassing 6-1 home defeat the Hertfordshire side inflicted on us on 21 November.

 

Ricardo Soares’s Under 18’s side had been ‘redundant’ for even longer than their First Team and Reserve Team colleagues and finally saw their first action since 25 November last Wednesday evening in an enthralling Brian Hitchings Youth Cup tie here against Waltham Abbey. Manor trailed 2-0 at the interval however Josh Cooper pulled a goal back on 73 minutes with a clinical finish following some good work by Abdullah Hussein. Further good work from Saidou Camara, Gustavo Moto and the excellent Hussein help Cooper to equalise on 79 minutes and, incredibly, as the game approached extra time Hussein was again inspirational to find Cooper who’s finish was lethal despite close attention from three bemused Waltham Abbey defenders.

 

AFC Dunstable visit us today in sixth place in the table just six points behind leaders Holmer Green, albeit having played three games more than the Watchet Lane Club. They are very much in the promotion hunt along with at least half a dozen other Club’s and demolished Amersham Town 7-1 at their Creasey Park home last Saturday although surprisingly suffered a 6-2 defeat at Hoddesdon Town on Tuesday evening which Manor can at least take some encouragement from. The Club are now working hand in hand with Dunstable Town and will be eligible for promotion to the top flight should they finish the campaign in the top two or possibly even three, we witnessed the new Creasey Park Community Football Centre in operation on 7 November and wish our visitors well for the future of that exciting development.

Lol iPhone mate means I've always got access and the tossergets my goat can't help myself. I'll take promotion any which way but we could miss out if we don't beat Padbury and Aston beat MK Wanderers which is a no contest we finish 4th and although Woodson Park went up in 4th we may not be offered the same. Our own fault early season killed us and some poor performances in games we should have dominated. Massive game sat now and only need to beat league champs!!!! Nice easy finish then....thanks very much fixture computer!!

As far as I can remember from previuos AGM's its all down to numbers in the league. Div 1 can only have maximum of 22 teams and at present it has 21 so therefore a place is up for grabs. Who gets it, no one knows.

Added Division One Cup to our promotion today. Must say though, St Albans City Reserves put up a great show for a young side. Very unlucky to be reduce to 10 men midway through the 1st half. The game all came down to taking our chances.
