Sympathy for Thanet United

Recommended Posts

Its easy to poke fun at Margate - but lets not forget that the majority of their fans are reasonable, fair minded people who dont deserve to see their club dying on its feet.

We've been through financial problems in the past and fortunately came through thanks to the generosity of 3rd parties, but we'd have all suffered if our club had gone under then.

No set of supporters really deserves this - maybe a few of them do, but the majority dont.

Margate are to be fined £5000 per game for any of their final 11 games of the season played at Dover and beyond their original agreement .
That's probably £55000 unless someone starts building something a bit quick at Hartsdown .

Thats not quite correct. Margate and Dover only have five games that fall on the same day, (not including Trophy and KSC games, which might be moved to fit in without any cost).

13th/26th Dec (26th is us, moved to 27th)
3rd Jan
7th Feb
17th Apr

A total of at least £25,000. Oh! dear. How sad, never mind.

Weather permitting, if the wet weather continues through December and January, Dover and Margate could be playing alternate days and every other Sunday. Hope they don't get confused, they could turn up on the same day and end up playing each other.

I think it's just for games that have to be rearranged because Dover are at home...although its perfectly alright to rearrange a fixture for bad weather or to suit Sky television.

As we all know clubs in the conference don't meet on a level financial playing field and to clubs like ourselves or Margate £5,000 a game seems a very harsh penalty whereas for the richer clubs it would be a slap on the wrist, if it was Stevenage Westley would simply add it to the money Farnborough owe him.

Points are worth exactly the same to every club, surely a points deduction would be a better punishment.

It might put Margate in danger of relegation but at least it wouldn't threaten the future of the club.

as the N L P say's today they should of been playing at home ground by now .they have already had three extensions to there gruond share .

so they will be fined 5,000 for each game away from hartsdown = 55,000 by the end of the season

and this was the best option according to the conference big wigs ?????????????

It says That they will be fned for every match after 31st December which is nine matches.

Ironically, one of those is Scarborough which should have been their away match but the fixtures were reversed when the original home match clashed with a Dover match.

IF the NLP Interepretation is correct, theat is a lot more severe than it was originally thought. However it says that the only other options were points deductions (9 matches at possibly 3 points a match) or expulsion from the league.

Hmm £45,000, 27 point deduction or expulsion difficult decision.

Still at the end of the day they have only got themselves to blame.

Strange that the fines don't start until the New Year. I though their agreement with Dover ran out in early December

The last deadline set by the Conference was 31st December. The last groundsharing agreement ran out back in October.

BTW I see from their fixture list that we are now playing them on 26th December, 27th December and 1st January.

Kent on-line give it (as somebody else posted above) as only those games that are re-arranged.

So that isn't all 9?

Margate hit with massive fine:

Margate have been hit with a massive £5,000 per game fine by the Nationwide Conference Board of Directors for every home game that has to be rescheduled due to their enforced ground-share extension at Dover's stadium. Chairman Jim Parmenter said: "This is unprecedented, in my opinion imposing a punitive fine of this nature can serve no purpose other than to damage Margate Football Club. It could be the straw that breaks the camels back. Everyone knows we are struggling to keep the club going, under very difficult circumstances''

Parmenter was considering his position after Gate were fined £5,000 per game by the Conference for each time they re-schedule a fixture to their temporary home at Dover.

This is taken from a BBC article. The interesting phrase is reschedule a fixture to their temporary home

This indicates to me that they will be fined for every match not played at Hartsdown Park after 31st December.

Confguide begs to differ, Dave:

'However, some dates need to be moved due to the clash with their hosts, and it's for these games that the fine is being imposed.'

Who is correct is anybody's guess. confused.gif
