Many Fleet supporters I've spoken to had already made Carlisle away a must-go-to game, myself included. I mean, you just got to, don't ya!!??! I must admit, though, even if a coach was running for a long weekender I would still be tempted to go by train.....or plane! 8 hours on a coach????? Each way?? Deep vein thrombosis anyone??!!
I agree with John,it's got to be done!Got to try and get the time of work first though...thats the tricky part!!
I feel a weekend away in the lovely City of York coming on !!
Hope it's at the beginning or end of season, so the weather won't be too cr*p !!
Get the beers in Yorkshire Dunx !!!
The saturday game gets postponed rearranged tuesday evening 1945hrs kick off, will we need a Boeing 747 to get us all there?
Or two days off.
One to get up there, and one to get back.
Why couldn't of been Southend and Orient.
But i only work Mondays and Saturdays...the joys of part time work <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
I start work at 6 so i just about have enough time to get home and then to work!
Its officially 337 miles, I think, to Carlisle - not so much farther than our current longest trip of 263 miles.
Currently Easyjet are offering returns to Newcastle from Stansted on a random day on Saturday for £12.98. Just hire a car for the day and Robert is your Mother's brother.
Flying to a game? It's just like being in Europe!
Alan W ,I admire your optimistic approach to mathematics , but 337 is about a third again on a 263 mile trip .
I can feel two long weekends coming up, as I was born and bred 20 miles from Carlisle and have cousins to stay with nearby and also just outside York. Mind you I will have split loyalty with Carlisle as my father and my Grandfather used to take me there as a child and have followed them ever since. I went to a match a few seasons ago when they played Watford, and I had a hell of a job persuading the local constabulary that I wasnt a Watford Fan so I could get in the home end.Even my best Jimmy Nail impression didnt impress them much.
sat nav, nice.
can we organise a gravesend excersion to carlisle by plane, would be good and very probaly cheap!!!
Well the cheapest filght that I can find to Newcastle is £51.99 with Easyjet, but then you have to get to Stanstead, and then from Newcastle to Carlisle.
With the flight at about 1 hour, having to get there an hour early to check in I'm not sure that there would be much of a time saving at the end of the day.
Still if it is the middle of winter the plane prices may be lower.
accrington stanley had a flight booked for their trip to exeter at a cost of £149
I'm just hoping the game at York doesn't clash with a Terriers game. Can't see me doing Carlisle unless it's a 'vital one' - you know last away match with Fleet needing a result to go up!
Think positive, BB !!
Yeah Alan Sorry! I was more thinking of the disappointment of our match at Carlisle this season being postponed. Hundreds of Terriers were left waiting on L**ds station for at 10.30am pitch inspection, all really to have a great winters-day out on the Settle to Carlisle Railway!
It has to be one of the most picturesque journey's in England!
Typically the rearranged match was on a Tuesday night when I had to work until 7pm!
Cmooooooooon Yooooooooooooou Reeeeeeeds!
even for us northerners Carlisle is almost the Frozen North.
its 120 miles for me - but its 1 mile off J42 Of M6 and you do get to drive through the wonderful Cumbrian scenery- brunton park is ok viewing wise
York - traffic nightmare -ground is nothing to write home about ,old and surrounded by narrow streets
if anyone can make a weekend of it for either trip then it would very nice particulalry in late summer/ autumn.
