Great game after a delayed start because the ref was late! And after seeing his performance he shouldn't of bothered turning up in the first place!

Positive performance by the blues in my opinion. We created countless chances, we just couldn't seem to put them away. Danny Hockton scored near the start of the second half, who had a great game all round.

The player who stood out for me today was Jamie Dormer, who gave it 110% all the way through.

The defence looked solid apart from the very end when they were throwing everything at us.

Overall, it was a great start to the season, a big turnout of away fans and hopefully it will all continue......... Roll on Tuesday!!

Afraid i dont agree with you Keon

Delighted with the result obviously, but overall our performance was pretty average. Not too many clear cut chances, and quite a few errors. Having said that its the first game of the season, and the conditions were very difficult, so fair enough.

Was delighted with the away support, much better than the limited and quiet home support.

Agree ref was poor.

All in all a good day out, and were now joint top of the league (albeit with 9 other teams). Think i did quite well in the old prdicition league too!

Roll on tuesday indeed

I would agree with cardiffbtfc but I feel the weather and the resulting accident on the M25 which left some of our players turning up late and the delayed kick off must've atributed to some of our first half performance.

As a first game it was tentative to say the least. In the first half Heybridge took their chances and we're not frightened to have a go at goal, whilst our lads looked as if they wanted an extra touch in front of goal. We were not operating well down the left which was a dissapointment. Personally I think that was down to confidence and I'm sure Justin and Matt will sort that out.

The second was a different matter...Whatever Justin told the lads we looked the better side and good value for the goal. A mix up between defender and goalie let Hockton in and we all know he doesn't need to be asked twice in that situation. From then on, Heybridge's defence looked all over the place when under pressure especially when Ross Wearham came on for Bradley Allen (who had a good game). Heybridge did well to try and get the equaliser but our defence looks as if it will as stingy as it was last season.

Overall a good win. A bit difficult to pick a man of the match 'cos my vote would go to either our goalie or Gary Henty. I think Gary shades it as he was a late inclusion into the starting 11 'cos of Saps being held up by traffic and put in some good strong tackles on the right of defence, swtiching to repeat the performance on the left when Saps came on for Kerrigan.

Great support from the supporters, even some banter with a couple of those silent Heybridge supporters. Sssssshhhhh, we'll wake them up.

I actually thought it was a decent performance by us. This is proper football. Teams wont roll over and die for you and Heybridge battled well and made it tough but we dug in and ground out the result. For me that's one of the signs of a good side.

Agree Henty and Dorms did well and McCartney made a sharp save in the last seconds. Ludo needs to be encouraged to take his full back on more often. He has pace to burn and will frighten them if he has the confidence in his own ability to have a go.

Personally I don't think there's any excuse for turning up late in the age of the "professional" Billericay. 150 fans managed to get there on time.

We've got more points than we had after 6 games of last season <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Good result, particularly when you consider we had 4 players unavailable through injury and suspension, not to mention something like 5 who arrived less than half an hour before kick off.

Of the new boys I thought Heeroo had a good game down the right, Quistin was disappointing first half but improved second when he realised he was allowed to take his man on. Decent performance at the back and McCarthney looked OK, one wayward kick apart.

My man of the match was Jamie Dormer - good engine and showed up well at both ends of the pitch. Should have shot instead of passed when presented with the opportunity though.

I think Simon's last comment summed up our first half, we got ourselves into good shooting positions but then wanted an extra touch and the opportunity was lost. We had plenty of possession and dictated play most of the match therefore the end result was deserved.

Some work to do though for the Management team as we will face better teams than Heybridge this season and we will need to be more ruthless in front of goal.

Good start though.

I was very pleased with both result and performance.

Nightmare journey for some, this affected the whole team, but as jl said, we still ground out a result and claimed all 3 points.

Competition for places has now hotted up, yes we

had 2 injures, 2 suspensions, and 1 not registered in time, But they will have to win their place, and be consistent to keep it.

we also have other fringe players just waiting for their chance to step in.

So, we're off to the best possible start and I'm confident we'll have a good season.

Well done lads, and Good luck to you all.

agree with what most have said, i think the result was the most important thing on sat rather than the way we got it. It was a tough game and as usual heybridge battled well, they really are a horrible team to watch but do dig in well. I think we need to improve in a few areas but no team plays their best in that heat and on the opening day of the season.

with us now going full time i wonder if teams will find that little extra against us?

Also, did anyone notice how low the crowds were in our league on saturday, only 2 matches got 500 plus with the rest much lower, maybe after the holiday season has passed it may pick up otherwise based on the away support we had on sat many teams are going to be relying on us to give them a decent gate!!

well done lads, looking forward to tuesday.
