Romford vs ETFC latest

Atmosphere building nicely. The big talk is the cup game of course. Nah - Not Hendon! Enfield FC! Kicking off any minute now... pitch looks good and the food queue short of BREAD PUDDING, but ETFC reporter hates pudding so he will be sticking to his ready made sandwiches (tight wad).

Town side:

AHall, Penn, Brotherton, Gant, Snowden, Negus, Nyman, RHall, Riley, Ndombe, Smith. Subs Allen, Pamplin, Baldwin.

Kick off is 5 mins late. Riley, Ndombe, Smith all had chances in the opening ten minutes.

Lots of controversy at Romford as a free kick to Town is overruled by the linesman and changed to penalty. Rudi Hall steps up and scores. Minutes later the Romford keeper fails to hold a Negus shot and Smith slots home the rebound. 3-1.

Despite the most cynical display I recall from a Romford side, an excellent win. And with the goals starting to flow, more for Abbey to worry about.

Chopper's effort near the end was still twenty yards short, though.

And why did the centre half handle that ball in the area? About the only thing the lino saw all night. It seemed that, after booking the keeper for complaining, the ref forgot what the original offence was for!

Forgot or overlooked?

I liked Carey Wright`s introduction to the game, come on,run ten yards, control the ball first touch and then get taken out studs up just below the knee and he still smiled-pure class.

Hold on mate there were a few Cynical tackles by both camps, I fail to see how it was all one sided. A few of our players came off nursing wounds as well. A real battle with no side more guilty than the other one.

Town may have won the football match; but if this was another sport, then Romford would have won on points!

for me the ref failed to protect the players (both sides) how can you book someone for dissent, but not caution players for 2 footed lunges? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/police.gif" alt="" />

An entertaining game and a great win. The lads were really up for it tonight and the goal celebrations were a pleasure to watch. the ref definately lost it (our penalty really was a free kick but some of the Romford tackles were just plain disgusting. Dave Allen should be nursing a broken leg! I thought Penn looked very good at the back. He kept his discipline and proved what a good player he is. smith ran all over the park and never gave up. Oh, and I guess Chopper did make a couple of average saves. the only critisism is that our first half finishing was poor and the game really should have been wrapped up by half time.

Well done lads. The same effort in the next three big games will see us clear at the top and through to the next round of the Vase.

OOOOOOOOOOOh It's great to be a Towner!

Look I don't want to fall out with anyone over this as I love you all but I will just re iterate then say no more.

In my opinion the bad tackles were 50/50. We too had a player taken off before half time after a poor challenge, and on a few other occasions our players were caught late, and what your keeper was doing half way up the park when all your player piled in just after we scored I don't know. But im not complaining.

I was dead level with the 18 yard line. The contact was just inside the box. The linesman on the opposite side obviously agreed (although given some of his non-offside calls that's not much of a recommendation).
