Waltham Abbey 2 Burnham Ramblers 4

Recommended Posts

In the words of Max Boyce “I was there” when Abbey developed a new Habit losing and they did it with all the grace of a bad loser.

Burnham walked it, by taking the game to them.

After 8 minutes a diving header almost horizontal player rocketed the ball into the Abbey net 0 – 1.

On 18 minutes Abbey nicked one back from a header 1 – 1 @half time but there were more goals left in this for sure.

Abbey were trying all their usual fouls and dives and in the first half it worked reasonably well.

Straight after the break Burnham nicked another 1 - 2 and then they got a 3rd 5 minutes later. 1 – 3. The ref did his best for Abbey booking a Burnham player for a second offence a verbal but he ignored the bad language from the Abbey! Hmm! Abbey were clearly flustered. Burnham on 10 men were still in it.

Abbey fought back in what was becoming a bad tempered match. Southport and or I was threatened by an Abbey fan for cheering on Burnham. Abbey eventually got a goal back 2 -3 on 80 minutes. Could it be the Abbey would escape again? On 82 minutes Burnham with 10 men scored again 2 – 4. In the closing stages Abbey got 2 players sent off not sure completely who was for what but it looked dangerous play and Sam Underhill was one of those to go!

We did sing the Slade version of Merry Christmas to the Abbey but they weren’t in the mood to celebrate.

I have to say Burnham did look very tasty and definite title contenders for those in doubt.

I have just had it confirmed that the Abbey management are not happy that their gate dropped by over 250 since they played the Town. They have now not won an ESL game for at least a week and people are wondering if the rails are coming off their season.

Questions will need to be asked of the team management as someone mentioned that even ETFC have not lost at home this season and the Abbey have! Are the rumours correct about a merger with Brimsdown Rovers FC? Surely it's too early to think about something as major as this.

Where have the fans gone? Shopping? Maybe for new players? What's to become of the league leaders when they go into the new year without an ESL win since they beat the mighty Hullbridge?

No doubt we will all have to wait and see.

Merry Christmas and thanks to Burnham Ramblers for an early Christmas present.

Let's hope that we all take heart from this result today which only goes to prove that no team is invincible and the sun will still rise tomorrow.

Enjoy the weekend. Mine just got better today.

[color:"blue"]Hmmm!

[color:"blue"]Technically, can you nick one back if it's an equaliser?

[color:"blue"] This sort of thing happens at "away" matches when you're, er, less than discrete.

[color:"blue"]Unlikely - dangerous play is not a sending off offence. It's not even a direct free kick.

[color:"blue"] See above!

It was the Refs Fault.

The lino's were crap

As well as the pitch .

Townies suppoting Burnham Didn't help

Southport was there.

The wind was blowing the wrong way (Both Halves)

We Had many players injured

Several abbey boys Had Flu

Burnham were lucky

we had an off day.

LETS HOPE THIS IS THE FIRST OF MANY as its never over until its over and the seven points dont look such a big gap now do'es it.

Fair dues...

... on the day, Burnham deserved the points - when they played football.

No excuses will come from me, maybe some wind-ups later in the week though when I've recovered!

At the end of the day, we are still in the driving seat... Burnham and ETFC still have to hope we lose a minimum TWO more games AND that's with then winning.

Worried ? Not yet ... but I would be if I was an ETFC Supporter - if we win the title and Burnham are runners up "Welcome ESL for another season!"

Correction Abbetnut. If Abbey drop ANY MORE points before the end of the season AND Town beat you at home. The title is Enfield Town's (presuming they win their other games).

Yes Burnham look strong.

But Abbey have got 13 games left and 8 of them are away. Including a trip to Brimsdown.

Similarly with Burnham. Though they still have to play Town at Burnham. I hope it is in March when my boat is in the water. I can make a weekend of it. :-)

Enfield have actually got 8 games at home though on our home form in previous seasons that may not be too much of an advantage. However the pitch has improved and that will suit our game more than the pitches such as Cappershots.

This season has got a lot more life left in it yet!

Abbey looked a mid-table team today and Burnham looked the team inform and to beat! If Abbey had won today the season would have been over!

On your other point - you conceed that Waltham Abbey WILL be in the ESL next season and Burnham Ramblers are Towns ONLY competitor for the slot to go up?

Don't get me wrong I think what you have achieved is very impressive!
