blimey, getting rather bitchy...

Statement by Imraan Ladak

"Last night I spoke to Paul Gascoigne who told me "I will save you the pleasure of sacking me. I will walk away. I quit".

Last nights conversation was a result of thirty seven seperate incidents I have had to deal with since the appointment of Paul Gascoigne as Manager.

I find myself in a position where I feel it would be detrimental to the football club to list all these incidents, but following a statement which has been posted on Paul Gascoigne's official website, I also have a duty to myself, the football club and it's supporters to respond to Paul's comments.

Unfortuntately Paul Gascoigne has been under the influence of alcohol before, during and after several first team games and training sessions. This has been noticeable to the board of Directors, players, coaching staff and sections of the media. A referee and fourth official have also filed a report with the FA.

I have tried to help Paul through this difficult period but gave an undertaking to the board prior to my takeover that if Paul hit the bottle I would remove him as manager.

Paul has not reacted well to the news and has made numerous threats that if I do not sell him the club he will use his name and the media to turn the players and supporters against me. This has already begun with Paul calling a number of the first team last night, under the influence of alcohol. Paul even told players not to report for training at MK Dons where they were due to commence full-time training.

I have not interfered with team selection or player purchases and departures but have been disappointed with the way two players in particular have been treated by Paul.

I also made clear that I felt Paul had turned a winning team into a confused and unsettled one by playing players out of position and being drunk on the team bus and in the dressing room for his team talks.

Paul has made a number of allegations which are unfounded and libellous but all I want is for Paul to seek professional medical assistance for his addictions and to stop taking his frustration out by trying to unsettle this club further.

I would also like to make clear that I told Paul I would not bring any of this into the public domain unless I was forced to do so.

Paul is not a shareholder or Director of Kettering Town Football Club and I have the unanimous support of the Board of Directors in the action that I have taken.

I would like to pay tribute to the players of Kettering Town who have continued to show the utmost professionalism during the last six weeks and hope they can continue to maintain this over what is clearly going to be a difficult period for this club.

I can also confirm that I have turned down Paul's offer to purchase the club.

Once the media hype dies down we will be left with the same supporters and manager which were here before myself and Paul arrived, with a similar playing squad and exactly the same ambitions as stated two months ago.

Paul was my childhood idol and when sober is a wonderful person. Last night was genuinely the most difficult decision I have had to make, but my head won the battle with my heart. I am shocked and bitterly disappointed by Paul's reaction.

However my responsibility is foremost to Kettering Town Football Club and not Paul Gascoigne.

in response to this from gazza

GAZZA COMMITTED TO KETTERING - 5/12/2005

Paul Gascoigne, Paul Davis & Andy Billingham totally believe in Kettering Town Football Club and want to continue to work with the fans...

Paul Gascoigne would like to announce that following various incidents over the past 5 weeks with Imraan Ladak he has no option but to look to buy the controlling share from Imraan in order to move Kettering Town Football Club forward.

Following the initial takeover Imraan Ladak has not acted in a professional manner as representative and chairman of the football club.

With acts of un-professionalism towards the players & countless other scenarios which will remain private, he has made the manager’s job impossible.

Imraan Ladak’s consortium built a management team to work together in achieving football league status in the next 3-5 years and Imraan Ladak clearly has his own agenda.

Paul Gascoigne, Paul Davis & Andy Billingham totally believe in Kettering Town Football Club and want to continue to work with the fans in reaching football league status but in the light of certain issues, which will remain private, the only way forward is to buy the controlling share in the club.

Paul Gascoigne said:-

“I’ve lost 2 out of 7 games in the league & have been told of the previous management team stats when they took over. The chairman wants to sack me but I said I will never walk away from Kettering Town & I will fight all the way.”

“I am now looking to buy the football club, I said I would never walk away & I said I would achieve the goal of achieving league status in the next 3 to 5 years.”

“I have spoken to top professionals in the game and they have said I should of walked away weeks ago. I didn’t and got my head down by working hard & I will continue to stick in there until I achieve my goal.”

“If the fans want to get rid of me I will take that onboard. I have worked hard in the last 6 weeks and haven’t been paid by the club.”

“I have never been left alone to do my job as manager. Imraan has questioned Paul Davis’s decision on Arsenal reserve team players, ‘are they good enough to play for Kettering Town?”

“He sacked a long standing fan & supporter of the club & then re-instated him the following day. I have paid all of the voluntary staff personally out of my own pocket as they are a fantastic asset to the football club & players. Imraan’s view was don’t pay them because there not used to it.”

“Imraan spoke about substantial funds being made available to take this club forward and I’m yet to see them materialise.”

“On the way to watch the reserves, Imraan rang up the reserve team manager and said drop the two forwards that the manager had included and told him to play his own choice of forwards. The reserves were set up for us to take a look at new players and he totally undermines the football management decisions.”

“The fans can make their own decision. They either want me & Paul Davis to take this club forward or they want a doctor in charge?”

“Look at what we’ve achieved in 5 weeks. Two top teams want one of my players, two players have been called up by England, I’ve brought in two top players, installed a reserve team to help with new trialists & injured players coming back, improved the nutrition for the players and I’ve achieved this in only 5 weeks at the club.”

“Myself & Paul could not organise training sessions because we didn’t know which players he wanted to add into the training sessions.”

“Imraan has got the [****!!****] with me because I have been in the game for years. I’ve asked him not to be in my office & asked him if he could use somewhere else to conduct his business.”

“I also asked him to smarten up for match days and to act as a club ambassador.”

“He does not speak to sponsors or away team directors. This was left up to myself to meet & greet sponsors. He has my whole staff a nervous wreck & I can’t continue in this way.”

“If I do leave then, god bless Kettering Town Football Club and the next manager.”

“I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the Kettering community, switching on the town’s Christmas lights, meeting fans & sponsors & I feel I’ve created a buzz around the town which I want to continue.”

“I’m totally committed to Kettering & I have a dinner planned on the 14th December at Wicksteed Park which will go ahead if the fans still want to come and see me.”

“I believe in the town & the potential the club has and I believe we have made huge strides forward in the past 5/6 weeks. But unfortunately the situation has become untenable and we will look to find a solution to the issues.”

If Gazza is back on the booze then he needs help, it would be sad to see another footy star (albeit not a George Best) go down the road to alcohell.

Sad on all sides. Kettering are a side crying out for success with a decent fan base and Gazza clearly needs a purpose in life which will keep him clean.

i don't think the pressures of football management is the purpose to keep him off the bottle.

just been reminded of his finest moment.

norwegian interviewer - "do you have anything to say to the people of norway?"

gazza - "yeah, fck off norway"

we're lucky we still get a xmas tree from the seal clubbers now.

No I agree, in fact the pressure of trying to bring success to a side like Kettering must be pretty intense, but I do think that work in footy is where is belongs. Saying that....he has tried his hand before in managerial roles...Boston wasn't it?

That's a magnificent quote by the way, almost Oscar Wilde. Gazza for poet Laureate.

i'd have a go at the cheapskates for only giving us a tree once a year when we protected their government and royal family for the duration of WW2.

here, erm, have a tree, we've got millions.

the cheapskate whale killers.
