TTC, For your information, I moved to Scotland 21 years ago, but was born and bred in Chelmsford, and was 38 years of age when I moved. I travel down to visit relatives at least once or twice a year, so am fully familiar with the current layout of the town (God, how I missed those gigs at the Corn Exchange). As stated in an earlier posting, the Melbourne reputation thing is blown out of all proportion, and probably dates back to the 60's when Trent Road got itself a bad reputation.

BTW, I can remember when the cattle market was situated where the current market/multi-story car now stands before it was moved to Victoria Road.

ermmmm TC just one point you called boarded barnes an affluent estate.

Well my parents both come from there and from what ive seen and heard that isnt an affluent estate anymore.

anyways whatever part of town it is im chelmsford born and proud of our COUNTY TOWN.

even your ricay isnt too bad apart from the chavs at the station on a friday night but I have a lot of friends in ricay so I know it to be a fine town in its own right (even if a tad close to basildon !!)

Did you have cows?

Thought you would be a bit of an authority on cows yourself Gazza - partaking, as you do, in the occasional beef-burger!

Dear me....quite the original wag aren't we? Can't come up with anything original, just go for the oldies...they always raise a groan...I expected sean to come in as the Costello, on your Abbott routine.

Their used to be a perfectly good Chippie in the parade of shops very near the athletics ground.

Question for Tom do you realise how far MP is from the station? Don't forget your hiking boots, just head for the MP flats its Chelmsfords idea of a skyscraper and to us kids it seemed like one.

FYI Gary, You might be interested to know the present day Tesco is built on the former Braintree cattle market and farmers in Essex South or North don't really do cows anymore, its all wheat, barley, rapeseed etc. So try again.

BTW, for the benefit of Keith - why would you want to arrive at MP (if the game takes place there), at 12.30pm on the 2nd January for what I believe is a 3.00pm kick-off?

Hello Balmoral. Simple answer really. Football is not just about 90mins play. I am sure your clubhouse will be open early, and then we will be able to spend some money on you lot for a change! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Melbourne is a sh*thole area of Chelmsford. Its scrote infested but nothing to be afraid of. Kings Road, North Av, Melbourne Av and Trent Rd are the bad bits, but it soon tails off into the quite nice Newland Spring

Yes indeed, many a football ground was built
within a less affluent...usually surrounded by terraced housing... residential area in past years. Suppose in those day it was far more of the working man's sport than it is today what with all these corporate facilities.
