Bert was our best player against Folkestone. Always looking to take responsibility and make things happen. Sesay also did well.

I think Taylor's problem is a total lack of confidence. A couple of times he had a yard on a defender out on the flank. He had the chance to cross but didn't. He is terrified of doing something wrong and getting abuse from the crowd. You can see it in his body language, it is almost as if he does not want the ball.

His problems have stemmed from his own making. In earlier games he has "skied" a few easy chances to score. He did the same on Saturday with one shot at least that I can remember. If he can sort this out then maybe when given the opportunuity again to be in a similar goalscoring situation he might well benefit. He is very good at close ball control.

WHEN he has it under control,he rarely plays it off simply. Its all well and good showing of these "step-overs" and good close ball control but somewhere along the line he has to learn to off-load the ball simply.I agree with you that he may be suffering from that lack of confidence but in truth it IS down to his own making and it IS something he needs to work on in training.

If he can do just that little bit extra after having that ball at his feet then he might grow in confidence more.Winning headers too is not his forteit & may never ever be unfortnuately. His shooting boots especially though need sorting out.If he can keep the ball low when shooting and scores a goal I am also sure he will get better.AS it is though he is not giving anything to the team at the moment.I know he's young and all that but he is a footballer therefore he should be open to any criticism in the same way as the older ones.He will however still get his opportunities so at the end of the day what he works on in training will undoubtedly help him in the long run.He did well in the first game & I am sure he is better than he has shown recently but it IS down to HIM to sort out these problems & get his game back on track.

Getting back to the thread title I agree with others in that Brayley is indeed the best player I have seen in a "GATE" for a long time too. Ooozes class and if only CK can get players near to his class then both he & the team will benefit more.Lets hope by the the time next season kicks off CK will have these kind of players at his disposal. It is going to be a problem though as I presume the budget wont stretch to too many players in his category so we need to hope that those that do come in can have his superior skills rub off onto them and make them better players because of it.

I, as you know, Coffin Ender, completely refute the theory that hurling abuse at young developing players is the best way to motivate or develop them, so am in complete agreement with you on this one.

However, this is a long running topic through various threads and I fear that some will always advocate it.

It is noticeable, at away games, when the support is dare I say more positive, the performance of the players improves.

Wheres the "slagging off "coming from then? Why even the mention of it? Its not been given so why mention it at all.Mentioning it only gives fuel to those who who see criticism and slagging off as the same thing. They arent the same thing at all.I most definatlely in this instance am NOT slagging off but purely putting my views on what I am seeing and what I feel is a possible solution or could be,at the least,an improvement in the players performances.I would call that a positive rather than a negative but it certainly isnt meant as a "slagging off".

Very true Cookie. There is a difference between slagging off and CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. The latter of the two should be encouraged as this will hopefully improve a weakness in any player.

Unfortunately the players we are all talking about at the moment are lacking in confidence and how this used to be addressed was by a few game in the reserves but as we dont have any how do you get the confidence back.

I do not feel that by constinatley playing the player will get it back but maybe a loan out to a lower league for a few games could have the result of a few reserve games. This is a rather drastic measure and must be explained to the player that it is not a reflection on there ability.

Maybe you totaly disagree with this theory but I hope it is a positive one.

Finally getting back to the thread yes Bertie has improved the team by at least 20% now lets see it improve by another 20%.

A loan out would indeed be acceptable by me,personally,Joseba, and for the reasons you mention.Just so long as their progress isnt overlooked completely or ignored in that any improvement made isnt wasted by having the player go sign for another club after having achieved that improvement.A youngster from last season comes to mind.(what was his name?)

Yes I must agree. I cannot see a problem with putting constructive criticism on this forum, as long as you do not then criticise those who have opposing views. However, criticism at a match is completely different and, in my opinion, unacceptable. For example, I am not a huge fan of Standen, but shouting out remarks like "Get Standen off" or ironically cheering when he comes off - what good does that do? At games, we should get behind the players, no matter how badly they may be performing!

I must admit I was "guilty" of that on Saturday,(Applauding him off the pitch, along with many others might I add, many who do not come on to this forum)MH. I apologise for that.It was only seconds before that substitution that I said to another anti Standen fan that CK would never substitute him.Was a bit of a shock that,to see it actually happen so maybe that was the spark that had me applauding, not the actual fact that he was going off rather than that CK had noticed his non-input for once.

You are perfectly correct to say that this is not correct behaviour on the day & is not the place to air my feelings & I will bear this in mind in future and count to ten before wanting to display my vocal joy in the future.

As for the player, despite my thoughts on him I was pre-match day giving a great gee-up to him on here by stating that he would be my man-of-the-match on Saturday.I was trying to be positive about the guy & trying to give him a big lift but again he failed to shine.Sorry but he just hasnt got what it takes in my opinion.

If we are going to be positive all the time then we all need to give the players a gee up. How about a song for all the players before the match. Even if its something crappy like repeating their surname over again who cares? It shows them that we support them. At the moment only Bill's song gets sung before the game so the others could also do with a bit of support. Superbertie is a good song so hopefully that will now be a regular one and hopefully we can find songs for some of the lower confidence players to settle them. I'm sure many of these youngsters feel a bit nervous playing in front of 700 odd supporters as its a big crowd at our level. And its not nice when you are being slagged off (its surprising how much crap you hear from people sitting in the main stand or around that area). I know some of these players have been well below par a lot but should we make an effort and give them our vocal support at least for a while and see how it goes? Either that or we carry on and they still play but with no improvement.

Who are you calling odd?

But seriously that's a point well made. There has been some terrific support away from home, but sadly quite a few at HDP who incredibly do little but shout abuse at their own players. How is that supporting a team? It is just negative and demoralising.

Ask any player; support from the fans makes a big difference, especially at our level of football. Come on Gate supporters: get behind the lads and help us up the league!
