Braintree 2-0 Billericay

Spectacular level of shooting selves in foot today - Pat sent off after just 3 minutes. We went with 5 in midfield for the game, with Scott Forbes in for Tom Poole the only change from the Hendon game.

Good chance in the first minute when Dorms got forward, ball took a bobble and his shot went narrowly wide. Pat got sent off for retaliation after getting a shove from Steve Parmenter. Danny Gay could have been sent off for handling outside the area but only receieved a yellow - very fortunate.

Poor game after that, sending off really ruined it. We played well but with Nathan isolated up front lacked the cutting edge. They've bundled one in from a corner then a minute later got a second after Kerras lost possession. Second half was pretty dire really, neither side looked likely to score - one save for Dale Brightley was the only chance of any note.

Brightley, Henty, Kerrigan, Sappleton, McSweeney, Dormer, Game, Hunter, Elder, Forbes, Hodges

Subs

Poole for Hodges (ht)

Simmons for Forbes

Kennedy for Elder

Having been quick to slate Ryan against Heybridge I have to be equally "swift" to slate Pat. It is difficult to hazzard a guess as to what he was thinking of. Essentially our hopes of getting a result in what was always a tough game were destroyed after a matter of seconds.

We must sort out our discipline. Last season 0 reds = second place. This season 6 reds. I don't think it's outrageous to say this indiscipline has cost us a play-off place this season.

For what it's worth I thought the ref got both the big decisions right and after Boretree scored their goals they were able to coast through in the second half.

It's so frustrating for the fans who turned up in good numbers today. Let's hope we can put this behind us and get the result we want on Tuesday.

Managed to miss the first 15 minutes as i got lost so cant comment on either of the 'sending off incidents'. Their first goal was scrappy, but second was a good effort. We barely produced anything all game, but not surprising as we were pretty much facing mission impossible. No complaints with a 2-0 scoreline. Only plus was an absolutely gorgeous 'Iron' burger. Yum

I think it’s fair to say that Pat let a lot of people down today, especially his team mates.

I agree with some of jl's points, our level of indiscipline this season is beyond the acceptable and has probably cost us some points. It has not gone un-noticed by Matt and his team, and they will deal with it accordingly.

Well done the Braintree and GL for the rest of the season.

Whilst I agree with some of jl's point, support from the fans was superb all through the game and the 10 men who remained on the pitch (including subs) deserved the applause from those that stayed.

Overall, apart from the two goals, I thought we battled well. The first goal, as Simon said, was a messy affair and against the run of play. Thier second was the killer. But we still, we took the game to them at every opportunity in the first half and at times in the second.

It's a shame. With all 11 on the pitch, we could've had a proper game and maybe had a chance to beat them.

Had a look at the results and there were a couple of shockers. Heybridge are still making progress and will be a worry for Braintree. Both Hampton and Fisher lost but the big game for us, Worthing v Staines was a 2 all draw, so were 6 points off the play off's despite losing.

Pat the Prat.

I think Gazza is spot on as it would have been very easy for the lads to have dropped their heads and go on to be on the end of a hiding. Annoyingly, the first goal was just poor defending and had nothing to do with using being a man down, it was just sloppy. I think Braintree had plenty in the tank but thats not taking away from the effort that our ten players put in.

The second half was as poor a half I have ever seen in terms of entertainment.

How many games has it been since this fixture, home or away finished with 11 a side?

Well i suppose we never get a result at Braintree, and the incident with Pat did not help ourselves so we will never know if we may have nicked anything from the game. After going 2 goals down in relatively quick succession the lads worked tirelessly to keep Braintree mainly confimed to the middle of the park. Must admit was thinking after the second went in that we could have seen another drubbing, but big credit to the way we did not cave in.

I too thought the support was superb. Non stop all through. But why was there an announcement to shut the bar at halftime? Most supporters had driven!! Ah well, we shall wave goodbye to Braintree this season and cough splutter..wish 'em well. Think it could be Heybridge who end up sneaking it too.

Glad you enjoyed the Iron burger extaffyjim. We do try our best. Didn't get much chance to see any of the game today as we were flat out in the burger bar all game so unfortunately cannot make any comments on that except BEST TEAM WON. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
