3 more penalties missed...

Recommended Posts

We've played awful football throughout the tournament and were winning games. We played better tonight, but had stronger oppo. More exciting to watch. Bad choice of Ref. Bad tactics from the Swede. Immaturity from young player (again) leading to sending off. Poorly taken pens. And bad luck. Plus cheating scum foreigners, inc the ref. Plus we have no finish. We need strikers that strike and score. We are years behind.

[****!!****] maybe, but not as bad [****!!****] as we'd been in the previous games. Sod's law, play better and lose. My point is, even though the rest of the world are a load of theatrical cheats, they are still better at playing football than us

HOw can you think i said that when i said we played 'rubbish' in previous games and won, and played better than 'rubbish' tonight, though not nearly as good enough as other teams on the world stage. Perhaps in my last two attempts i did not make myself clear enough. I think the England team have been 'rubbish'. Totally boring to watch, though tonight better than normal. Badly mismanaged. Add to that a bit of bad luck and you could say we got what we deserved, although belatedly. England need to catch up with the rest of the world.

Ar the end of the day we can argue all we like about whether we were crap or not today, we're out and that's it Doesn't make it any easier to take.

Life goes on and the footballing world doesn't just revolve around England.

Good luck to the teams left in the competition, the Portuguese excepted!!!

Comes to mind!

S**t happens!

I thought we played quite well actually all things considered and if the run of the green had gone our way we wouldn't have needed penalties....a handball in the area comes to mind and the unfair sending off of rooney...(it was gentle shove for fcks sake and ronaldo surely will never be able to return to old trafford)

having said all of that we were never going to win the world cup with the squad the mad swede chose and in a poor tournament the frogs are beginning to come good..they were superb last night....

england in the future....?

maclaren in charge....

doesn't breed confidence does it really....

i think it is easy for everyone to knock our players and tactics etc etc

i believe we are good enough to live with the worlds best, maybe not to win the cup but we will give anyone a good game,my concern is that the premiership season and the way we play football at 100mph cannot possibly help us in 35degrees weather

i think alot of premiership players from other countries have probably found the same

until last night i have not thought henry has a good world cup,van nistelrooy the same

people like lampard,gerrard looked knackered.

rooney just is no where near full fitness and although it would be easy to blame him for pushing ronaldo and i would usually be the first to blame him as i hate him,i don't really see what he done wrong

fact he did push ronaldo away but it wasn't violent of any sort and would probably not even warrant a yellow in the premiership.ronaldo ran 50 yards to get involved in something he shouldnt and maybe he should of been punished.

i thought the ref was poor and must of had issues with england, its only 25 years since we was at war with argentina and whoever at fifa put him in charge either had the same issues or was just ignorant!!!

on another note i would fear for ronaldos safety should he stay in england as i believe he is probably hated more than maradona at the moment and after the treatment beckham got in 98 i would think ronaldo could get worse

Well...so much to agree with, so much to disagree with. Yesterdays result was a culmination of several different events (excuses)

1) Yes the heat was an issue.

2) Chances were not taken when they should have been.

3) Svens squad. Why take 8 midfielders (Lampard Beckham, Gerrard, Cole, Hargreaves, Carrick, Lennon, Jennas) This was major overkill and Jenas

should have been replaced with Defoe. As for taking Walcott, a boy who has never kicked a ball in the Premiership, that's simply beyond me. He's squad selection as far as midfielders to strikers ratio is certainly questionable.

4) Big names not performing i.e. Gerrard, Lampard (especially the latter)

5) Injuries i.e. Rooney, Owen, Beckham (This again boils down to squad/team selection though)

6) Svens tactics. Like the Dutch play 4-3-3, England play 4-4-2. Lampard and Gerrard could not play together and Lampard was easily Englands worst player. You have two wingers Cole & Beckham (or Lennon) plus Gerrard as he was slightly better than Lampard then Carrick or Hargreaves (who was absolutly fantastic, Man of the Match by miles) This allows you to have someone who can support Rooney up-front (whether Crouch or Walcott) as Rooney is not one to play the lone striker role

7) Referees decisions. Perhaps not a sending off but then Rooney has to learn you just cannot do that on the international stage. Several penalty appeals and a failure to recognise feining of injury.

8) Ronaldo as well as others seeking to influence decisions. This should not be allowed to happen and lets hope Ronaldo'll be on the exports list.

9) Penalties. When I watched the Germans take their penalties on Friday, they were clinical, confident and clinical. Why can't we be like that? Why can we not score from 12 yards out damn it!?

Anyway, I'm sure there are several other factors that influences yesterdays game and feel free to add to them. Like most posts, this is open to interpritation, some you may agree with, some you may not. One that we can all agree on though is we did not perform. Like the Dutch, like the Brazilians we did not do the job and we payed the ultimate price. Let's hope the Urchins win the league and the Portugese get stuffed

***EDIT***

Told you I'd forget some Again, open to opinion:

10) Too many games. If we'd have got to the World Cup Final, Gerrard would have played 365 days of football (July 7th '05 was when Liverpool started CL qualification.) Perhaps the Carling cup should be scrapped or ammended? Perhaps the league should be reduced by 2 or 4? Who knows, all I know is several 'big hitters' did not perform and tiredness could be a factor why...

11) Too many foreigners in the English game? Getting a bit controversial and scrapping the barrel here but it was mentioned in a tabloid today...could be a thing to look at in the future???

i knew you would get defensive once i posted that,i was just pointing out that the premiership wouldn't be the same with loads of championship standard english players!!

but ronaldo can f*ck off, perhaps we should just put a limit on one portuguese player per century
