Temp 25 degrees, sunny with a 15 ,mph wind blowing up the slope.

Match duration 49.24 + 49.10

Attendance estimated at 300 of which about one hundred were with HFC.

No programmes were issued, and the team sheet was almost unreadable so apologies if I have any of the names wrong.

Worthing had ex-Dagger Tarkan Mustafa in their line up, and he frequently struggled to contain Ross Wareham who opened up the left wing on several occasions.

Urchins looked composed and a vastly better organised team, especially at the back, where McFarlane marshalled the defence in excellent fashion. Mark Janney played up front at the start before dropping back a bit, and along with Gary Cross they dominated the midfield.

Urchins had two great openings in the first half – on 23 mins when Wareham twisted and turned before touching the ball back to Fletcher, whose first time centre found Lee who slotted in behind the defence to flick the ball goalwards, where May did well to flick the shot over the bar.

On 25 mins Tiffin found Janney, who slipped the ball inside to Lee, who then lofted a thirty yard pass over the defence to pick out Sadler on the left side, and his shot was turned around by May.

Dale Brightley made the save of the match shortly before half time, an excellent dive to parry a shot from Luthwych and he then quickly recovered to clutch the ball as it spun loose. Both Southon and Fletcher made good interceptions to keep out dangerous crosses from the wings, but overall it was the Urchins who looked the better side in the first half.

The second half saw Billy Holland fitting in nicely up front and Jordan looking confident at the back. Downside was having Andy Tomlinson limp off.

The only goal of the match came when BYRON HARRISON cut through from the inside right position. Reece saved his first shot, but could not prevent the follow up from going into the net.

Rikki Burbridge came on late in the second half, and twice had shots saved, as did Holland, as Worthing did well to withstand some heavy pressure.

A very encouraging performance against a team tipped to win the Premier Division of the Isthmian League, with a precise and confident defence, and a quick moving attack. It’s looking good.

>>>btw - Dagger - I don't think we had Reece between the sticks, second half. Was it not the perma-tanned Collier??

I thought so as well - but I decided to use the official apology for a team sheet which listed Reece and not Collier.

But hopefully someone can help here, because Reece is left footed and Collier is right footed, only I don't remember the keeper actually kicking the ball out.

The team sheet, for want of a better word, was a scrawled sheet of almost illegible paper - but it definitely listed Reece and not Collier. (And before someone tells me I have spelled Reece wrong, that is what was on the team sheet).

And one of the players called him Reece early in the second half. But, like you, I still did not think it was Reece (Rhys).

Not yet - hoping to go tonight or tomorrow - went all along the coast after the Worthing game - right along to Newhaven - but gulls apart not too many birds - one gc grebe, one jay, one kes, and that was about it. But a nice large flock of starling at Rottingdean.

I checked out all the gulls at Worthing, but only bh and herring gulls.
