what happend at the game?

Not sure what actually happened, but I know a group of the Whitstable "fans" charged down the terraces at us when we equalised. They were cut off by some stewards but threw bottles and cans over at us. Something else happened after this but I didn't have a clear view of it.

Yeah I agree most of their fans were very welcoming and most did clap us out and wish us good luck at the end. Unfortunatly like all clubs, they have a few idiots who are looking for trouble. Luckily nothing to serious happened.

I must admit I was I was at the other end when the 'disturbances' ocurred but at the end the Whitstable fans were the most gracious in defeat that I have ever seen a side on the tail end of a 'smash and grab' that I have seen in a long time.

They were still singing ten minutes after the final whistle and consistantly congratulated the Margate fans and wished them all the best for the next round. Those were a real credit to their club.

I walked behind the covered end goal in the second half to get some grub and it looked like there was some healthy banter between the two sets of fans. There's a danger of over egging the pudding and the choir deserve praise rather than the response above Big Ron. I must admit I admire them for getting behind the team in the way they do. One thing I noticed was the appalling lack of stewards on Whitstable's part and that fans were drinking freely on the terraces. Ok you might say but people were swigging out of glass bottles etc. And to think that at most places now we arent even allowed lids on plastic bottles. For such a "big game" there were a few flaws there that really didnt help.

I agree that its important to get behind the team and cheer them on but verbally abusing kids plays no part in that.

I've read in other posts choir members complaining about others not singing, maybe they don't wish to be associated with that type of "support"

What do you mean that type of support? There was nothing wrong with the way our fans acted at the game! You tell me what is so wrong about getting behind your team & singing? There was one bloke standing infront of us in the first half that said (I can't belive we are standing here with a bunch of [****!!****]) you know who you are! (spindles) If you dont like the way our fans sing for our team dont stand near us!

When I walked past I saw some kids standing in front of the choir who seemed to be enjoying themselves. Am I right in saying that these were the kids you seem to make out were the brunt of abuse? Personally I can't see how they would be smiling and having what seemed a bit of fun with other fans if they were "goaded". Big Ron, seems you have a problem with the supporters who make up the choir. I know I said in a previous thread that I would join in if some of the abuse stopped. To my mind that has been the case in the most part (and I have joined in at the last two home games) but I do appreciate that sometimes feelings are running high and that people do need to let their hair down at a football match. Now can we stop this nanny state rubbish Big Ron.

I arrived at 1-45 as jj had to be early for radio kent work. After installing his dear father(91) i saw more of our stewards than theres. they said they were surprised the game had no real segregation and with a very large crowd the ground did well not to have more trouble than there was.

BUT WHY allow drink to be consumed on the terraces. When i walked up there end half hour after the game the terrace was a sea of bottles. Thank goodness they were plastic ones.

Drink always causes problems when you have a large crowd and two very passionate followers

With over 1000 that was correctly predicted i did not see a copper either. At the Wombles game it was correctly segregated so no trouble.

Fortunately it did not spoil the day.

AB however appeared once again and was in the thick of it again. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

Maybe as you walked past you missed much of what was said and maybe the smiling kids did'nt understand what was being said to them, but as i was stood there the whole time i know what i heard.

I have no problem with the more vocal of our fans i used to be one myself but there are limits.

Geoff I think you are spot on and overall I thought it was a poor set up overall. Nice enough ground but despite their expectations of a crowd the size that they got they didnt do enough in my opinion. They should have had more stewards from their club and ridiculous to allow drink on the terraces. As a minimum you dont allow drink on the terraces especially at such a big game in the town.

I was one of those drinking on the terraces, however, along with the group I was with behind the bottom goal all match, we were there for football and nothing else. We enjoyed the banter with each other and Whitstable's No 8 when we had corners and a odd larger just relaxed us. Better than having to down a pint quickly in the bar and hurry out to see the game

All goes down to sensible drinking which lots of people can do and only a stupid minority cause trouble
