I love Charlie Mitten...but...

Before I go into this ONE real downer of the night might I just say that this goalkeeper is highly regarded by me.He is genuine & loyal. He seldom lets this club down & is truly a super keeper to have in our squad. HOWEVER....two games in a row two goals have been scored from errors by him.

Of course it could happen to anyone but we have a more than adequate keeper in reserve who has also never let this club down.

Some might say he dosent deserve to be sitting on the bench in the first place. An error, sadly by our gaffer of all people was the reason he was sent off,got suspended & lost his place in the first place.

Had that error not have occurred some would say he would now still be between the sticks.

Charlie has come in & done an extremely good job but these two errors,(the one tonight was inexcusable) should see SCOTT given a further chance to shine until he makes such an error or is suspended again or god forbid he gets injured. Hopefully none of these will happen, though the odds are that at some time one or the other will).

These two wonderful keepers are in competition for the first team spot & rightly so both should get their chance.Scott has been magical thus far & no-one should be able to fault him & for this reason as well as that stated previously I would like to see Scott get a further chance to shine. Maybe Charlie needs a little rest too.Scott needs to be shown he is by no means a second choice keeper all the time.If one makes a few errors(I'm not talking of just ONE error here) then he should step down.If the other keeper then makes a few errors then he should then step down & so on. On the whole we have two very impressive keepers & we must thank our lucky stars that we are this fortunate.Rotation dosent seem to be on offer but playing for your place should be.

Without actually getting on the pitch to do this or by one or the other actually being injured(not the case in this instance I'm sure)then the only way this will be decided is,unfortnutely by errors.

Charlie,as mentioned has done us proud & will do so again,I know that, but his recent mistakes should allow Scott to get back amongst the starters for the next game i.m.o.

Trotty may have a different view to mine or other reasons for maintaining the status quo.

Both keepers will not normally let us down, they are both so closely matched.Lets keep both of them happy whilst giving them both ample opportunities to prove their worth. One day the reverse might occur but for now Scott should be allowed to take over from where Charlie left off(minus the few errors of course).

This will ensure that the goalkeepers position is first class at all times. It should not affect the teams performance as both have been used & both have understandings with the other players.

Incidentally Charlie also made some crucial saves on both days so all is not bad but why can we not try for perfection in this area all at all times.

We have two of the best keepers in this league now,all we need is the right selection each time.

Im sorry but despite the great result from last night which included Charlies GOOD saves I had to get this off my chest.

I never ever want to see EITHER of them go or feel hard done by but the position surely has to alloted on a fair basis. This will keep both of them on their toes & bring out the very best from them both, when the opportunity arises & be good for the rest of the players by having FULL confidence of that man behind them.

This is my personal view only & though I might be shot down for mentioning it after the greatness of last nights victory I would like to hear others views.I may be in the minority here but thats the way I see things as they are at this time & for the future of our last man of defence.

We are playing some brilliant stuff now but wheres the harm in wanted further improvement as there is always some to be had.

Again, sorry for the long drawn out posting. Nothing changes there then eh?

I dont think I have been unfair to either player in this post & discredit was not intended by it but if anyone feels I have been offensive then I will willingly see to it that this thread is deleted immediately & with whatever choice Trotty makes I hope it serves well with them both & I will abide by his decision wholeheartedly & without further reference to the above.

Am biased but the quality of our team must be of primary importance - in other words the best 11 should be on the field whenever possible! That includes the No 1 spot too

I think RT has to be seen to treat the players fairly. That means Charlie should keep his place unless he really f**ks up. Off the top of my head he has only let in three goals in five games.

I would be happier with SCS in goal as I think he is a real prospect. However, Charlie is still a decent keeper at this level (plenty of Conference experience). Lapses in concentration have always been a problem but dropping him when he hasn't done badly would not be good man-management.

Why after having such a good win do we even have to pick on one player for such a debate? It was a team effort and everyone contributed.

By the way, I include the supporters who made the journey in this - even the Bromley keeper appeared to show his appreciation at the end.

Yes on reflection Drummer I agree how can a winning side like they are at the moment be changed, I am just hoping Scott won't want to move on though. I thought the Bromley goalie was very sporting in clapping us at the end especially as he had taken a lot of verbals from us throughtout the game (especially Joseba <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />) as, I am sure Charlie was at the other end.

Think what helped was there was friendly banter aimed at the goalie and at the end of the game our fans showed respect to him for being in such a good game. Unlike the Hampton game when one of our supporters(who does not travel) actted like a prat and their goalie reacted which in turn opened him up to abuse.

Sorry, but he HAS made some errors otherwise why would I post this thread in the first place. Yes we won those games but what if these errors had been in games where we HADNT scored, hadnt won. What would you be saying then?

As for your post Joseba or is it Abdulla, you clearly failed to read & understand my initial post.

I agree also with Steve that a winning team shouldnt be changed but can we afford these errors in future games.Of course theres no guarantees that Scott wont make errors too but the point of my thread was that if a player, whether it be a goalkeeper or outfielder makes errors that COULD result in a reversal then his form should be looked at(in a temporary light) & others waiting patiently to come in should be given a chance. Lets face it they arent waiting in the wings for nothing are they?

Trotty has seen dips in form of players such as i.e. Abbott,Oates, outfielders,so why not apply it to the keeper.

Again I must stress that Charlie is one of my hero's & always will be.

It is a big decision to make & as long as both keepers are man enough to accept Trottys decision, whichever way he makes it,then thats the way it will be. So long as those errors are eradicated from the player who has made them in the first place I cant see any problem.

Joseba, the only real nonsense thread I can see posted on here was yours. Unhelpful with no substance whatsoever.

This subject was put out for discussion & nothing I or you or others say will sway any decision Trotty makes. He is his own man & thats a good thing, but it would be appreciated if you could enter the debate rather than put it down.I felt this subject was well worth bringing up.

If those that think the errors I am talking of,plus other little slips are not worth talking about or & will not be reapeated then fair enough,go with it.But how & when do these players get their chance to prove themselves otherwise, besides Scott hasnt done anything wrong in the first place to merit having to prove himself.

I would just like to see both keepers happy & content but somehow I feel Scott feels he is being hard done by & to some extent I can understand that.As mentioned above we dont want to lose Scott do we?W e certainly dont want him to eventually lose interest either or a dip in his previous good form would be a distinct possibility.

I fully accept & respect others comments on here, those that DO have substance rather than those that just hand out 10 word put downs.

To please some of you I will say no more about it. The point has now been made & talked over by the large majority & I'm happy with that.

Cookie I can see and understand your point and I agree and liked the way you worded and lokked at the whole picture. As has been said SCS is not a bench keeper and other clubs will be aware of this, I just hope he stays (not that there has been any news or rumors he is going). We are VERY lucky to have two good keepers with us and yes my heart does go in my mouth when Chazza calls "KEEPERS".. lol
