Final score was Gt Wakering 4 AFC Hornchurch 3.

Unlucky Urchins had the vast majority of the play, but Wakering took almost all their chances and the winner came from an 86th minute mishit cross which sailed straight in.

Wakering took the lead on 26 minutes.

Urchins first goal came when a well worked move saw Wakering stretched at the back, and left MARTIN LING to knock the ball home from close range.

Wakering then scored twice in quick succession just before half-time.

Urchins reduced the deficit after 49 minutes courtesy of a 20 yard screamer from DEAN PARRATT.

The equaliser came on 79 minutes, thanks to a bullet header from "Captain Fantastic" COLIN McBRIDE, from all of 18 yards (ish!).

Then came the disappointing winner for the Rovers.

A thoroughly enjoyable evening, and an exhibition of controlled football, passing and ball retention.

One other highlight was when Rovers No. 6 was told to "get wider". One wag in the stand was heard to comment, "Fck me, if he gets any wider he'll burst"!

Urchins line-up:

1. Steve Smith

2. Andy Skinner

3. Anthony Jones

4. Dean Wells

5. Danny O'Shea

6. Colin McBride © (Goal, 79)

7. Martin Ling (Goal, 28)

8. Dean Parratt (Goal, 49)

9. Jim McFarlane (Heritage, 45)

10. Gary Nelson

11. Ryan Wilkinson

12. Frankie Heritage

14. Ronnie Hanley

This has to be one of the funniest threads I've ever read on FF.

Priceless.

Did the likes of Garry Nelson and Martin Ling play for Hornchurch before they went into the Football league?

Dean Parratt is still playing at Ryman level for Maldon.
