After having initially been accepted into the FA CUP and money accepted and cashedwe discovered when the draw was announced that we werent in it. About an hour later we received via email a letter from the FA

FA Challenge Cup Competition

Season 2010/11

With reference to your Club’s application to enter the above competition, I have to inform you that the Challenge Cup Committee were unable to accept your Club’s entry as a result of your Club’s final league position which was below the entry criteria required for Clubs applying to enter the competition, and as your Club finished below fourth position then the available places were decoded on a points per game ratio and your Club unfortunately was not able to be accepted.

A refund of your entry fee will be sent to you in due course.

Now no complaning about the reasons as we had a poor season last year and thats the price we pay however the timing of it leaves a lot to be desired !

It's also dependant on how many teams enter as to which league position at step 6 they allow. Shame for Westfield as they have played for a good few years in the FA cup, thought an allowance would be made.

Egham tackle the FA Cup with the usual mixed feelings; our record in it is really poor. Guildford City at home - they are damned awkward but at least there will be goals. We don't do goalless with City (in fact we've only had two goalless games in four seasons in CCL). Not sure what kind deed we've done to get us safe passage into a home First Round Proper tie in the Vase, so we don't have to worry about it until October. Molesey are always tough, Dorking were rubbish last season (8-0, 4-0). We've played Brockenhurst 3 times in this competition (won 6-2 ages ago - Paul Canoville [ex Chelsea and several police stations; it's not defamation - read his autobiography!] scored the last with a 35 yard chip. We drew a few years ago when leading [i think] and were beaten in the replay) and at Crowborough some moons ago we won despite our flying winger Franny Aragues being bitten by a pitchside alsatian!

You get a bye to the second round proper if you reached the last 32 the season before (Chertsey).

You get a bye to the first round proper if you finished in the top four of a step 5 division the previous season (Egham & Camberley) unless you go up and play in the Trophy (NGU).

Teams coming down from step 4 also get a bye to the first round (eg Bracknell).

Many thanks for the elucidation.

Gray Athletic failed to get into the Ryman Premier and probably will be in the Essex Senior now.

1. Will they keep the bye in the FA Cup the FA gave them (as acustomed to Ryman Prem clubs)

2. Will they still compete in the Trophy?

Epsom and Ewell got a bye to the second round too VPCTFC.

Your criteria is correct though. Top 4 in a Step 5 League get a bye to the First round if they are still in the Vase the following year.

Ironic really, Epsom thought they'd be 5th in 2008/09 and then Camberley drew with Bookham right at the end of the season when everyone else had finished, and as a result we nicked fourth place and an exemption, which we then had a good run with (for a change!).
